  • Hey, i could use some help here.

    When i create textures for my model, and try to save them as 8bit bmp, my photoshop wont let me select 1bit,4bit and 8bit depth format. Any suggestions?

  • @mrtepaliukas when you're done editing your texture, go image->mode->indexed colors. It lets me export 8bit when I coose windows os

  • @sirClogg dam i ran into another problem. When i try to compile SMD's to mdl, i get an error: The textures are to large. what does this mean?

  • @mrtepaliukas Well Id say that its quite self-eplaining.. There is a lot of limits to everything around hl/CS I always tryed to keep it to 512x512 (what is the real limit I dont remember)

  • @portugalfans21 well you can try to start with my 2nd tutorial (" mdl. to .smd tutorial ") it will tell you how to decompile models done by someone else. Than you can see for yourself how its done.. (sory for the quality of the other tut..) Be aware that its a hell of a work to rigg, animate, texture and (whatever the part where you make hitpoints is called :) ) model of player.

  • @sirClogg use Sony Vegas .. you can zoom in video using that software.

    Obávám se, že ti nemuhu nabídnout víc, než, co jsem popsal v tom tutoriálu. Co se ukládání a zprovozňování modelů urobených v MAXu týče, mluví ten návod asi jasně. Pokud v milkshape nemůžeš ukládat, možná máš neregistrovanou verzi. Jinak já bych postupoval tak, že bych si vzal model té čepice a ten předělal. (Víš doufám, že její zobrazení může ovlivnit jen správce serveru?)

    Udělám návod na dekompilaci modelů.

  • @sirClogg tak to ti dekuji x) .... lebo ja som skusal prerobit model ... len tam je potom ten problem ze ono mi to ulozi do .qc alebo .smd ... a uz potom nvm co dalej kukal som aj na nete ze ako by som to precompiloval alebo precovertoval na .mdl ale nic stoho mi nefunguje x) budem se tesit na to video x) dik vazne moc ... a ak chces mozem ti poslat dake modely tych cepic ... xD

  • Does anyone know how to open a Half Life MDL file using Milkshape? So I can start costomize it, for example, I would put a new head wireframe on and stuff.

  • @Stolemyusename first you have to extract the SMD file that contains informations about mesh from MDL file. SMD is editable in milkshape.

  • @sirClogg I don't really think SMD is editable in Milkshape, it can only open .ms3d files, how am I suppose to edit it?

  • @Stolemyusename You have to import the smd files, not open them. (Go file, import and choose one of dozens supported file extensions...) And I uploaded the .mdl decompilation program for you here: wwwDOTdrDOToverDOTczSLASHupSLA­SHdecompilatorDOTzip (change dots and slashes to . and / )

    And please. Try to press F1 for help or ask google first next time ;)

  • Hello sirClogg where are the .smd animation files stored in your cs 1.6 folder? i can't find them.

  • @crackmunk after compilation, smd files become part of .mdl file. To be able to see them, you would have to decompile the .mdl.

  • @mahide001 Im not quite sure what you mean. You just save them whereever you want and compile them into a model.. than you can still see em if you use something like hl modele viewer, that shows you all animations model includes..

  • @Tehnoob00 thats simple. Just take some software like hlmv.exe (half life model viewer) open the model you want to edit, go to textures tab, select texture with body parts, export it. You will get weird looking bmp picture with all textures unfolded to one big rectangle. Edit it, save under the same name like original. And back in hlmv click import texture and save the model. Thats all. On YT I ran into a lot of tutorials about it when searching for modeling tut. It should be called mdl painting

  • @Tehnoob00 can you see other players when playing CS? If yes, than go to valve, cstrike, models, player, "folder with name of character you want to edit". Just a note.. do you realize that other players wont be able to see your modification?

  • @nikolassj well.. its been a while since last time I played CS so Im starting to forget all this stuff. But I think it was a console command "netgraph 0". And netgraph 1-3 turns its different instances on again.

    when i write "die" it give error but im taked die animation .smd file there but it says doesnt exist and can you say what is all commands like ACT_IDLE 1

  • How do I import texture onto a pre made model? I have a smd model, but I cant put on the textures, they just cover the whole object instead of the parts they should :/

  • im not sure whether I replyed u or not yet. But one of the reasons could be, that model is a single mash and polygons (faces or how do u want to call it) have different ID numbers. If so, u'll have to use multilple sub-object material.

  • cool lol....... i got another problem :( lol i sick of problems, i lost the thing that u get when u click on an object to rotate it, u know the round ball thing with the lines in it, how i get it back.

    and soz for being a noob (X_X) lol

  • you neet to go to. Customize (alt+u)-> preferences -> Gizmos and fidle with Rotate gizmo settings.

    And if you dont want to look like a noob, try to press F1 for help and do reserach on your own time to time.. should be easyer for you if english is your mother tongue..

  • I tried to make a facial animation with bones to export to smd, but I have a big problem. when I open it in milkshape, the bones aren't in correct position, or the rotate into the bad axis :S

    I know I have some pivot problem, but I don't know how to fix/ make it correctly...

  • I had simular problem once. In editor it looked OK but when exported, some parts of model were rotated 90° acording to rest parts (may be because of the size of bones.. I dont know.) But I fixed it by rigging it in Milkshape 3D (its realy crappy soft acording to MAX but more compatible when it comes to old model formats..

  • sure u can. Thats what is this tutorial about..

    You can run into a trouble if you try to edit mesh of guns or characters (rigging isues ud have to use Milkshape for it) but as long as u just change animation of original SMD files, ure fine.

  • nvm i figured it out lol anyways i having huge problem animating coz the magazine stick to the gun and i can't move it coz the whole gun moves, same with every other part of the gun.

  • Than ure may be editing wrong SMD file. Or there are som IT solvers or other constrains between the bone for magazine and bone for gun..

  • thats because CS models are .mdl files, not SMD youll have decompile .mdl file 1st. I use mdl_decompiler soft for it.

  • I never tryed it myself. But I guess it should be possible. Just dont know what do u mean by that css import script. When I want to import some models (weapons or whatever) from CS, I must decompile it first into elementary SMD files (reference and animations) than I can edit it in MAX. But CSS models r probably something completly different..

  • Je lepší si to otexturovat přímo v MAXu. Stačí, když použiješ tu 8bit texturu o rozměrech dělitelných 16. Můžeš použít nějaké modifiery (jako UVW Map, nebo UVWunwrap) ale az budes se vzhledem spokojen, nezapomen ten model konvertnout na editable poly, aby se ten modifier stal jeho soucasti.

  • All used programs are listed in info. But the one for models is 3ds MAX quite sofisticated 3D art program actualy.. It looks familiar because the viewports are the same in most 3D graphic software.

  • Its all written in "more info" table. 3DS MAX for modeling, Milkshape 3D for qc file compilation, Valve hammer editor for maping and xZHLT compile GUI for .map compilation.

  • simple. Just rightclick on name of view in any viewport. Than "View config." and "show cube" in "ViewCube" flag

  • Wellll... I'm not quite sure. But if u mean the box appering in corners of view ports in MAX with words "up, left, bottom..." on it. Thats a box that help you to move around your scene. It doesnt move the object. Just change an angle of view. And its possible to turn it of if you want.

  • is there a cycler_sprite limit? becouse i've made some nice models in 3ds max and i've added lots of mdl trees to my map too. and when i run my map on cs 1.6 some of the trees and and a model i made won't show up.. do you know why?

  • If the game doesnt pop some error message before you run the map. And if some of the trees shows up. Than you probably placed cyclers to deep into a ground. Half of its size (the cycler's size, not model's) is a limit.

  • thank you for the reply. well what do you mean by half the cycler's size? and by the way, i fixed the other model problems, too many polygons. i made a chainsaw that had like 1600 polys. :P i deleted some polys and now it is 500 or something. and the trees /cyclers is placed very close together. maybe becouse of them are crossing eachother the trees wont show up.

  • as cycler size I mean the size of that purple cube symbolizing entity in VHE. And acording to polygon count.. if milkshape 3D doesnt have a problem with it, game will not have a problem also. If it was because of polygon no. it would give you some error log.

  • well i can't change the cycler size.. how is that posible.. and about that polygon thing, it's a real mystery :P. and even if i could change the cycler size, for what reason? to make it smaller? and why should i make it smaller?... thanks for not being a jerk.

  • I didn't say anything about resizeing it. It is not possible. When I place a cycler_sprit into a map in VHE, it looks like a small purple cube. And that's what you dont want to bury deeper than half of its size in the groun.

  • oh. :P sorry. ok so i'll check that it's not deeper into the ground than half the size, right? to be sure the cyclers will not even touch the ground heh. thank you very much, hope it helps, if not you have been most cooperative, thanks again!
