eevery time i watch this part it sends shivers down my spine. it has such a sarrowfilled sound this song fits mugen so well such sarrow and hard work that is his life. but knowing him if it ment eventualy having people in his life like fuu and jin again hed go through all the sarrow again.
@HumbleYourSelfXxxX a lot of it is ambiguous or in-explicit but some of the meaning behind the scenes show that mugen found beauty and content in the simple parts of his rough and tragic life, that no matter how terrible or shameful something may be it is insignificant compared to the universe, mugen is rejected by both the world, his friends, and the heavens, he lives as a truly free person but it has made him alone, and beauty can be found in all places (where he grew up).
@HumbleYourSelfXxxX parts i particularly noted were that his parents still watch over him who i believe were the two last spirits in the line who faded slowly. in the end he realizes he lived a life without regrets and is comfortable with the choices he made, but he ends up regretting that he couldn't know his friends better or spend more time with the people he managed to care about.
This scene is also the only scene where you see Mugen as he was in his old life. 0:58. Before this scene, it is assumed that Mugen is a metaphor for natural talent, in contrast to jin being learned talent. But this flashback shows that his talent wasn't natural either. It was learned on an island where he had to kill steal and murder the worst criminals in all of japan just to survive. The lesson is that there are no people of great skill who just were born that way, they had to fight for it.
omfg i have searched so many links, can ANYONE tell me who/what that masked man in mugens flashback was, not the afterlife people, the one with the creepy smiley face mask
@WTFate the "creepy smiley face mask" is a creature from the after life like the others we see. based on the flashback, i suspect it means hes thinking of the first time he saw them which was another time he was going to die but ended up otherwise.
@WTFate yes it is omg in the naime when mugen sees the afterlife people he says (what not you guys again im not ready for this) and the creepy smily face thing is an afterlife creature that was going to take mugen but his Rock hard will said otherwise
@TrinityVash no it wasnt, they all look the same and he doesnt look like them or was with them and in the few times hes shown u can tell hes a real person, not some afterlife person, that injured mugen. hes on the damn island with mugen. you just assume because hes got a mask and a robe.
@WTFate This final comment will end this okay buddy there were two times that the creature appeared the first time you see mugen all bloody and the second time when he dropped and again when they were taking mugen the spirits not the creature he said wait a minute not you guys Again key words again that means mugen has seem them more than once apparently the two times he was near death dontcha think
@WTFate and further more to back up my following statement even if it was someone that injured mugen why would he or it stand there just looking at him and not finish him off and it does not nessecarily have to be an injury from an enemy he was walking through the forest alone it couldv been anything and mugens past is still a bit foggy this one video does not explain mugens past entirely
@kejorafall ahahhaa, bodor. jangan dinyanyiin atuh kalo gitu mah. yes, it's beautiful.. So, now I know, why you like this movie a lot. The story and the song mix together for an awesome credit :) thankyou for sharing (gw ga nyangka lu masih inget), thanks.. :)
This is one of my favorite episodes bleav it or nt i cryed wen the song came on n i thout mugen was gne die it actshaly moved me i luv anime!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really admire the creators of this series for never letting Mugen crack and break down and ask for compassion and love from others. This would have been very easy to do, but they kept the integrity of his character intact. He will never openly let anyone into his heart and he's fine that way. Its part of what has kept him alive for so long.
@nobinobita2095 in a way he did somewhat let people into his heart in the form of jin and fuu and you can see that especially at the end of the show, and you assume he learned more about other aspects of his life in the journey and once again especially with the last fight but thats the great thing about this show it was never overdone
This is one of the most moving scenes in anything I've ever seen or read. It really conveys how a lifetime of poverty and violence have made Mugen's heart rock hard. The song is a brilliant choice. It's a folk song about a mother selflessly toiling without complaint so her children can have a better life. The compassion in the song contrasts with the absolute lack of compassion in Mugen's life, but there's a sense of toil, hardship and iron resolve in both.
Great comment! Hey where did you find out song's meaning? I've been searching everywhere for a clear explanation online but found nothing. I only found that the song has many interpretations but never went into detail about those "many interpretations".
@PlayNME I'm not sure if you're looking for an interpretation or just a translation, but if it's the latter, you can activate the Closed Captions [CC] and choose between English dialog and song lyrics :)
This part is so sad. The song makes it even sadder. x(

I love this song so much but I wish I could find a version of it without the actual voice over from the anime.
