  • You call that fun? That's technical brilliance to me! Lol! But I agree it's fun...

(Ps. I don't go to Jazz clubs, 'cos there aren't any decent ones over here!

  • Its Yamaha S90e

  • obama?

  • whats your keyboard sir? this is nice sounding

  • @lampitoklive if im not wrong it is yamaha motif

  • ...Is too sexy for Church!

  • brilliant, i wanna be as good as you when i grow up.

  • you are awesome :)

  • Everyone has an opinion but I believe the Pastor has the authority to make the decisions about the music etc, and if he feels its inapproapiate then he can deal with it. There can only be one Boss!

  • And alternatively, the 2nd to the last chord could also be called a G7b9#9#5 (or G7alt for simplicity) since a tritone sub is really just a V7alt...

  • And yeah woops the b5 is in there too, basically every alteration possible for the G7 is present.

  • :) I played it church.

  • R&B nor the club scene has no monopoly on great chord progressions. The old gospel head ministers need to get with. Thank God for the Kirt Franklins/Fred Hammonds/Marvin Saps of the world

  • Oh... What will be happend if someone play this at church?

  • Dear hnsmusic,

You have demonstrated a great run for piano/keyboard enthusiasts to learn, and as a recent comment was shared - I too have used this run in church. As you were calling out the next to last chord (following your chromatics) you weren't certain but thought that it would be called a "D flat 7, flat 5, 13 ... whatever ..." What I gather it to be (& I could be wrong) was a "GM9#5. The bass note is now called out in the chord (G-9+11) ... It's the D Flat that you played.

    Blessings!

  • @MeNMyShadow1 and anyone else wondering about this chord, he's correct in calling it a Db7b513 --- this is a common chord choice at the ending of a jazz chord progression: the "tritone sub". The Db7 is a sub for G7, and it resolves to the C chord (though in this case a C6/9b5). Great ending, thanks for sharing it hnsmusic. I've heard this many times before but never knew what chords were being played.

  • Do you have any grove you can share?

  • Nice change...funny I was doing something similar for church...

  • You should come to my church, You could play any kind of chords you want :D

  • well actually according to the theoretical assumptions of a cacophony, the substantiated contrition of a baleful accriminy denounces the harmony of "clubish" music leaving the accent on the church atmoshphere, therefore giving dilutions to the break of paragons.

You started playing Christmas Time Is Here I was like man this dude is so real. You've sparked the inspiration I needed to truly learn the piano the right way. The way you play it. Thank you JJ.

  • shit I was just looking for some nice tips for soul / jazz kind of stuff and you made me decide to get back to finding a good teacher. Thanks :)

  • interesting

  • Db7 sharp 11.

i like what you do keeping the root at the top of the chord.. i think its quite popular in gospel to do something quite similar and nice with 13th chords. take Bb 13...

this voicing - Bb then Ab in your left hand. D G C in your right. bring the notes below the C lower chromatically. its not neccessary to have the Bb at the bottom.

  • ignore that ridiculous comment about the Db. If that was true , i 'll eat my hat.

Maybe F-11b5 but it doesnt really describe your voicing :(.. oh well, just play it :)

  • i need yu to message me and give me sum chords plz.

  • yeah thats jazz ending!

  • thanks bro..very refreshing..

hahah , thank you very much for the video . [:

  • Believe it or not, gospel musicians are incorporating jazz chords, techniques, styles, and what not into their music. It sounds nice too.

  • COCKTAIL PIANO MUSIC !!!!!!!

  • I was reviewing the lessons on the hnsmusic site and this one isn't there. I especially enjoyed this lesson. Might this one be added to any of your future cd's?

  • Two questions...

    1. Did you go to school for music or were you blessed with the skill for piano piano?

    2. What brand piano is that?

  • Yamaha S90ES!!! I just bought the same one and its great!!! In the same family as the MOTIF ES

  • Man I have been wanted to know that transition forever! And its that simple! Shoot! Thanks cat. Oh and we always play that in church lol lol

  • Am I glad I found you. I am pretty slow at learning the chords but I liked it when you said it was fun. Just what I needed to hear. I like your comments too. You are a real person with a great amount of talent. I will practice until I get it.

  • I like your style JJ! keep it coming

  • This is appropiate for church....

  • ... and I agree. However, there are those in the congregation the believe their tithe entitles them to an opinion. So the Pastor and the higher ups cater to them, but thats another discussion.

  • exactly....the entire congregation SHOULD be a titheing congregation, but anywho great chords, I've already utilized them

  • @hnsmusic WOW you answered that sobrilliantly! so true!

  • Damn, that was good.

  • hey i get it that a-minor is the relative minor of the key c. but how do you know that you have to play b flat with your left hand?(flat 5 of c) what'S the reason behind it? and i would not know that you are in the key of c,if you didnt say so. how do you know that? or how can we say, that you are still in the key of c?

  • AHHHHHH I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I Love It ...... Thank you!!!!!!!!

  • very nice, i am defintely going to be trying this out, in church too LOL!

  • niCe sOunD & thAts hOw wE PlaY aT mY ChuRch...LoL

  • Thanks for this!

  • great chords... but why can't you do it in church?

  • you ever wonder why jazz was called that on fresh prince? remember when uncle phil would always throw him out of the back door, that's what the preacher would do to you for playing "jazz" in church lol... i kid i kid

  • lol haha man i hope not... there are alot of christian jazz artist out there. Gospel music has jazz and blues in there... so I don't understand why it's not aloud! Lol

I think it's the meaning behind the music, the only thing I don't like is maybe techno and rock music....... that is party music.... but jazz has been around waaay before the nonesense music

  • Hello! Wonderfull videos! I just wonder, is that a S-90 you're playing on?

  • amazing, I like it, you've got a good spontaneous feel :)
