  • NIce video, very informative. Are you using a stronger spring in your gun while shooting that +P ammunition?

  • Buffalo Bore's self-defense line of ammunition is focused on penetration so I didn't expect to see a pretty lead mushroom in this test. Jacket separation is not a problem if the bullet is still penetrating 15+ in gel.

I carry their 38 Special 150g DEWC, a test of that I'd love to see although it's not as impressive as a pretty mushroom for your viewers.

  • Hi there forgive my ignorance but why is bullet weight retention important? what is the problem of the jacket peeling off if you are using it for home defence?

  • Perfect load for any defensive scenario IMO, With significantly higher velocities than other leading +p loads the .1" - .15" less expansion won't make that big of a difference. It has more than enough energy to perform the "One hitter quitter". With a .45 acp slug you don't see the same penetration as other popular caliber's just an amazing amount of energy dumped in a short distance. Any 230 grain projectile moving at 960 FPS is very devastating especially even if it's only .625" in diameter.

  • I think I see your finger print on the cartrige.

  • if you want to extract the bullet...

  • FEDERAL HST .45 +P 230 gr.....you should see way more expansion than this buffalo crap.

  • cold you try some barnes varmit grenades for .223??

  • Nasty stuff.

  • Yikes! You just saved me money! I'll never buy Buffalo Bore for my .45, now that I know I might get these poor performers. Or, as you say, I'll stick to retail purchases to make sure I can see what they come with. After hearing that they sold people these Montana Gold bullets when they expected Gold Dots, I don't know if I could ever trust purchasing directly from them!

  • I think there is a place for higher pentretion, lower expansion .45 ACP ammo. There are people who don't care for expansion at all with it and much preffer a complete passthrough. I think some might be swayed with this sourt of thing. Besides, a combo of pentration, expansion, AND fragmentation might make for a more devestating wound then simple penetration and expansion alone

  • Great vid.

  • you dont want to get shot with this, its all over if you do!!!!

  • ★★★★★

  • Thank you for this test. I purchased a box of 180 grain BB for my new 10mm and they have these same bullets. I guess I could use them for hog hunting someday, but I will just use the old Winchester Silvertips for home defense. Kind of a waste of money but thanks to you I know not to buy more.

  • tnoutdoors9, I can watch your vids all night man. Some really cool ammo testing going on here. Thanks for performing the tests that I can't afford to do. Awesome stuff!

  • Liked the penetration, but feel a better jacket would benefit this bullet. The expansion seems to be suitable for tougher conditions and possible barrier penetration. Thanks for the good testing information.

  • Buffalo bore would do better with a good bonded bullet.

  • Hey, what gelatin do you use and what water to powder ratio?

  • @A7Delgado

SIM-TEST from Corbins, online. I buy it in blocks then dilute by approximately 50% to get the composition on target with 10% calibrated ordinance gelatin. BTW, I have researched Perma-Gel and just yesterday spoke with the gentleman who created that product, but I don't think it will work for me.

  • they need to use a bonded bullet, like Speer Gold Dot.

  • Great ballistics test. Gee, that jacket just peeled off like a banana skin. You did an awesome job on this test. Keep up the great work you are doing.

  • Not much expansion? I dont believe this guy knows what he is talking about. Unfriend yo azz!

  • @mossy500camo Don't think you know what your talking about, the bullet obviously had little expansion.

  • @mossy500camo Looks like it expanded to me.

  • Looks NOTHING like a Golden Sabre.

  • I believe the Gold Dot version from BB would do better in this test. I have 185 +P loads from BB that just CRUSH! I LOVE them out of my Desert Eagle 1911 G.

  • Great test. I have BB ammo for my .45 ACP that uses Gold Dot bullets. Great stuff!

  • I tested Buffalo Bore in my 10 MM Glock 20 in milk jugs filled with water, and had the exact same jacket separation. They should load their ammunition with bonded bullets.

  • Jacket separation. Bleh.

  • Buffalo Bore uses Gold Dot bullets in their 9 mm loads. I had assumed they did in all the others as well. That's too bad they picked a dud for .45.

  • i bet buff bore is a bitch for doctors to look all the pieces of the bullet

  • Hey can you test hornady zombie max ammo

  • Montana Gold bullets SUCK !

  • I believe BB loads these with gold dots now? Perhaps this was an old box?

  • I love what you do here on YT man. Keep it coming.

  • Holly crap 230 gr? I shoot 150's in 30-06! That's a big bullet!

  • @Fordfanforlife777 yes a 45 is a heavy grain but lets not count the 30-06 damn good round hunting for most 4 legged prey

  • @kingd3001 Wish it was cheaper so I could plink with it. But hey that's what 7.62x54r is for!

  • @Fordfanforlife777

Has to be heavy to make up for the lack of velocity.

  • @tnoutdoors9 ok thanks

  • I would think that kind of velocity with a properly designed bonded bullet would do pretty well. But i suppose that is the case across the calibers haha Great vid as always!

  • How, can they say it looks like a Golden saber? It looks nothing like it, Golden saber, I see them mixed up in a box where the pawn shop collects loose hollow points/FMJs where people trade their guns and need different ammo, so I go pick out the golden saber's every time I go in, He sells em at an extreme discount, to me that is for free, so long as I give him my business he treats me with ammo every now and then!

  • @isamtator

Shooters have noted that comparison, not Buffalo Bore.

  • @tnoutdoors9 I know that, I was just saying how could they say it looks like it, they are two different, designs!

  • @isamtator

Yeah, the Montana Gold bullet is more of a truncated cone design. I think it's the color and just a quick glance at the serrations.

  • @tnoutdoors9 Yep, I have both of the rounds, I prefer the Golden saber over most. They preform well, and they feed well in my 1911, and my Taurus pt 99 af! It jammed on the other brands of hollow points I have used, but it likes the Golden Saber. I use the Remington, 124 grain BJHP, +p loads, I shot a box through it and not flaws, 25 round box. Not much of a test though I admit!

  • Hmm ... think I'll stick with Hornady FPD.

  • @tnoutdoors9 fwiw, I wrote Tim sundles(owner of bb) about a month ago and he said they were loading everything with gold dots again. A gold dot at that speed would be nasty!

  • Super CCOOOlllLL Thank UUU

  • You need to test the Federal HST 45 230 grain + P. You should get tons of expansion and penetration!

  • im guessing it got so far into the block because all the petals just broke off

  • @Lethal0ption

Wow, sorry that my time constraints don't jive with yours; send me a PM to best get my attention. No, I do not intend to test multiple loads in one test; I prefer to dedicate a video to one load per test. Yes, you will have greater velocities in 9mm +P vs. standard pressure. Yes, generally more flash in +P. However, nothing is guaranteed for penetration/expansion in +P vs. standard pressure. Your friend needs to choose what is most comfortable for them to shoot.

  • @tnoutdoors9 You don't see a need to do a shoot out for a concealed carry option a weapon that people carry daily? I understand the dedicated vids. but its not like you have not done that before. I've seen so many of your vids even calibers that I don't own or never would for that matter. I was not trying to be rude to you at all. I would just like to see what load would give the best performance. And almost all your 9mm vids are in +P

  • @Lethal0ption

I don't have access to any 3" barrel handguns, which was one of your questions. There is no way I can replicate all the various barrel lengths; I have to go with what I own and borrowing guns is a pain. You have a good point in that alot of my 9mm tests are +P. Ya'll let me know which PREMIUM standard pressure 9mm loads you want to see.....115, 124, and 147 grain.....and I'll get those on the list for 2012. Thanks!

  • Thank you for the test.

  • MORE AMMO TESTS!!! YAAHOOOOOOOOOO!, pretty sad but i check your channel every day for new ones LOL

  • Hey man, I'm in Nashville, where did you get 20 rounds for $22??

p.s. ever need any help testing? I'd love to come give ya a hand, do some shootin' etc etc...

  • @shuttersandtriggers

Nashville-area residents can find Buffalo Bore in stock at Outpost Amory near Murfreesboro TN.

  • Excellent review. Looking forward to more of you reviews . Are you or can you do reviews on rifle rounds like Sierra match king, Hornady, etc?

  • As always, good job! I always love your ammo tests. Keep up the good work!

  • Wow, can't find BB stuff anywhere except online.

  • I've seen the similiar of what you've tested with the montana bullets when offered in other manufacturer's. Jacket seperation

  • @BuffmanLT1

Yeah, I hope this doesn't start another crapstorm similar to when I posted the 9mm DoubleTap/Montana Gold bullet test couple of years ago. Montana Gold apparently does a great job with the balance of their product line, including rifle ammo for hunting. I think the root of the issue is the lead composition itself for the purpose of a handgun SD bullet, but I practice metallurgy only within the comforts of my home; nothing online.

  • @tnoutdoors9 One thing's for sure like you mention in your video, velocity is pretty good on these rounds. I recently tested HST +P 230gr and my four shot average (one shot didn't register) came in at 956fps. High wsa 965. Ranger T's +P 230gr came in at average of 938fps, with a high of 951

  • Do some hornandy zombie max testing. Great,.45 ago ammo demo.

  • @rav3ism3 its a ak-47 round sks Ect I have a 30-30 but were I hunt we got a big mountain lion 2 of em and I gonna carry a semi auto and a 357 mag

  • I didn't even know they mad +P rounds in .45 caliber. Just imagine a 10mm +P load. can you say DEVASTATING

  • Could u do Winchester 7.62×39 soft tip for deer cause I'm going hunting and I don't won't it going slap through the deer.

  • @gunmanbryan243 Just use a 30-30 or a 270, I personally don't know wtf is a 7.62×39 But im about to ;p

  • great test once again!...ive never been a fan of the gimmicky type of ammo, for SD

  • Hey I love your videos , and I was just wondering it you could do more .22 lr ammo test thanks

  • @smackthatonekid

Hoping to post a few by end of November.

  • Interesting results.

  • I wish Buffalo Bore would be more specific about which bullets they use in different loads. Some of their "JHC" (why can't they just say "JHP"?) are Gold Dots, others aren't. Definitely curious, as it could make/break the decision to buy...

  • @12799MaDeuce

I think it has to do with availability from the bullet maker and less intrusion with BB's marketing efforts; packaging, website, etc. I read in several forums that buyers were expecting Gold Dots based on what they had received in the past, then found their most current JHP order was topped with these Montana Gold bullets. IMO, the Montana Gold bullet is in no way a suitable replacement for Speer's Gold Dot, not for self-defense.

  • @tnoutdoors9 I agree completely - I definitely want the Gold Dot. Guess that limits me to buying from a retail outlet to verify the bullet type.

  • @tnoutdoors9 great video as always never fail to impress is there any way you can do a high power pellet rifle test say 1200fps or more I hunt and pest control with pellet rifles successfully some would say very successfully I'd just like a video to say look x amount of penetration if not thanks any way great show!

  • @fpssilentfox

Posted this couple of years ago......

    watch?v=XZfute--upc

It is not HD, but gives you an idea of a pellet, homemade gel in this case. Using a GAMO air rifle. I had planned to do more with the GAMO, but that hasn't happened so far. Kind of got distracted by Glocks, Colts, AR's, M1's, etc.

  • I have never shot BB in .45acp, but in 10mm is does not get much better. The energy transfer is top of the line.

  • buffalo bore turns 380's into 9mms.

  • What would you use these rounds for seems like to much penetration for defensive use and i typically don't use a 1911 for hunting?

  • @chrischiampo Buffalo bore makes some hard cast flat nose in .45 that is aimed at defense from something like a black bear. I think some are in the area of 250 or 260 grains. There's other loads from buffalo that would be excellent for defense against a human

  • @chrischiampo Usually buffalo bore doesnt skimp at all on penetration, they focus on penetration, and speed, or penetration, and weight.

  • Thank you for doing this video I've been waiting for this exact one!

  • When I had my Series 80 Officer's ACP, I used to put a bushing to decrease the slide slap from the +P rounds. Always had to take it out when I was practicing w/ regular ammo. Kind of a pain in the...

  • When you have so much weight, 230gr, jacket separation is irrelevant.

  • Love BB...great test!

  • extreme weather ammo testing I like it...

  • @Blk05titan26

Thanks, but I'm not happy about replacing some shingles! 72 hours of this high-wind crap. I'm nowhere near the "Windy City".

  • Or as I like to say, "230 grain, because shooting twice is silly."

  • Too bad they can't use a bonded core bullet. Great video, as usual.

  • I read 'Buffalo WHORE' ಠ_ಠ

  • @itzWiLLiaM

    lol ^^

  • Please test the zombie maxx ammo in some long gun calibers

  • Very professional, very thorough.

    Thumbs up.

  • Your vids are the first of my subscriptions when I go to Utube. Always enjoy them.

  • Some Buffalo Bore rounds make sense to me,like 10mm,.44 mag and .357 mag when they are used for animal protection or hunting. But as personal defence I would use other manufactures rounds, +p and +p+ mean nothing if bullet placement is poor.

  • +1 for honady CD.

  • As always, great video and information. Thanks for sharing!

  • Yeah, I've never been a fan of the Montana Gold HP.

  • Nice bullet but I'm staying with my Hornady CD, great test as always Friend

  • Yeah i would like to see tests with the 10mm Double Tab and 9x18mm Makarov

  • Good time to have a wind generator

  • Great video here. Interesting results. Definitely reinforces my personal choice of leaning towards a bonded bullet (ie. Gold dot which is what I currently carry). Keep up the great work.

  • Now you can test my 9x18 :)

  • Is this considered a defensive round? Not sure if you said it or not. Question: Wouldn't those petals that came off be a good thing for a life threatening situation or is it best to have those attached and continuing to cut through?

  • Great work as usual! I wouldnt mind you testing some 357 mag rounds for us revolver folks. Keep up the great work.

  • Another great video as usual. One simple request from a simple man. Can you please do a review on Hornady's Zombie Max ammo. I know it's just a Critical Defense bullet with a different polymer tip color, but it would still be cool. Keep up the great work! PEACE!

  • @85mackey1 Yes! that would be great. I'm totally gonna pick up a box of these just because.
