  • Being a great talker isn't something that's so important to me. I'm more interested in what they say then how they say it. I don't need some kinda cult of personality, leader type to get behind and neither does anybody else. I think we've made that mistake quite a few times. And as a more subtle and quiet guy myself it's pretty frustrating when everybody gravitates towards people who can speak well yet have no real substance behind anything they say a lot of the time.

  • Holy crap. This guy is awesome.

  • you look eerily similiar to Chad Degroot (bmx/flatland rider) its awesome.

  • you look like bmx rider chad degroot. alot. it rules

  • i like the way you talk. what books have you read? I mean..what are the most impacting books you have read that influence you?

  • laziness--- or is it enabling a deeper ability to concentrate on whatever we were doing before being interrupted? I am very protective of my mental environment. (a digression...)

  • Nice work. Well reasoned response. I enjoyed your explanation. Thanks.

  • there's no need for this crap ! i lasted 23 seconds , he loves himself .

  • thats probs because you have the brain power and attention span of a small rodent.

  • he is not emo, at all

  • If you put a cataloguable photograph up on, let us say, You tube, so that when you go to purchase insurance your visage will appear to the agent, why then you could have the right to leave comments, said right having been withdrawn from those entities who construct You tube identities all the time in order to create sufficient noise to neutralize the power of it's inherently democratic and therefore dangerous blogs.

  • I think that there IS a category of behavior that can *correctly* be termed trolling.

    watch?v=cxRjhlx8DZs

Attempted insults that miss by a mile are not in the least insulting. On the other hand, calling a troll "a troll" satisfies them. They are looking for a fight. If they upset someone, then they feel victorious. This is their only route to the illusion of potency.

For the above reasons, "troll" might be an accurate label, but it is a pointless insult.

  • I wonder... if you put yourself on camera but you use a mask or something to conceal your face, does that make you a troll? Because I've considered that from time to time.

  • I have a video featured on my channel for you. You aren't better than anyone actually you are just dicking around like everyone else.

War on trolls? It should be the war on pompus, vain, attention seekers. Just because you show your fugly mug on camera doesn't give you more clout than anyone else on youtube. I do and say as I like so basicly... FUCK YOU!

  • The language of law seems to be the only "English" certain people take pride in sharing.

But the point about commenters vs. vloggers ... of course the people making videos are more important on YOUTUBE! This shouldn't even need discussion to figure out.

Does that make the people making videos better people? ... That question is just as laughable. There are some real "trolls" making vids as well.

  • I've always favoured grybnic as a word. Sorry but I'm texting only. Don't worry folks, if all goes well in a year or two I'll be on the big screen for all the world to see. And yes I agree. Not only do u-tubers provide a service they also have a lot of guts exposing themselves to the world, in more ways than one. There is not only entertainment but things that make you go hmmm?

  • Its not a nice little arguement...that fellas just an arsehole....you put your opinions out there for everybody to see....whereas the opinions of people like me and the dickhead who wrote that comment are just lost after a short period of time.....ye are the people who can change a persons perspective....were just greedy bastards who dont try to help anyone.....not that all video makers help....you definitly dont.....but your entertaining....and were beyond help anyway...rock bottom yeah!!

  • You make sense. Some times

  • How can we know that text or speech is better? (oh wise one)

  • This is a great video! Fuckin thought prevoking, good job!!!

  • It seems to me that text, as a visual stimulus, is more quickly internalized that oratory, an auditory stimulus.

  • Depends on how your brain works. Some semi psychological positions use introverted and extroverted personalities. Generalizing, those who are introverted work better with bare texts and do badly in rethorics, while ekstroverted work better in a social or social like enviroment.

  • Hey... I remember you... over at veoh... I favorited a funny 'Hillary' video you had made. :)

  • americanisms

    water = waader

    ability = abilidy

it also has to do with snobbishness & sociosnobbish elevated identity -

    daughter = dodder

    like.......whatevrrrrrrrrr

  • Are you Ken Tanaka?

  • R those who show their face here doing a service for the watcher?

    Yes and I appreciate it.

  • It's about long-term public abuse, not splitting hairs about what the word troll means.

    Brilliantly missed.....

  • Fucking brilliant. I wish I could argue against fakesagan on that issue but like most people who tried that he blocked me.

  • Fakesagan is intellectually weak. He blocks anyone that disagrees with him.

  • I like all the people trying to prove their "languange crafting" via YouTube comments.

  • I also believe the notion that a speaker must have a distinctive voice is a consequence of the assumption that the self is unitary, another assumption worth examining.

  • Your point that a great speaker must possess a particular style is worth examining further. It rests on the assumption, unexamined as far as I can tell, that a speaker must have a distinctive voice. But why isn't that a limitation on speech? Wouldn't the ability to don a style suitable to the subject matter be a greater ability? I call it the ability to be polyvocal perverse.

  • u have a bugger

  • This comment is towards azrienoch, and I hope he doesn't take it the wrong way.

I am actually in a total state of shock watching this.

    1. The issue isn't really the word *troll.* It is the creation of a new form of abuse that can be long-term, involve thousands of participants, and do great damage to children across the country. How do we maintain free expression without destroying people?

  • 2. Philosophers see the profound in things others belittle. If philosophers belittle issues social abuse, who can you trust to value the profound?

    Scott aka globetrvllr2

  • I wish you didn't put your face on camera...

  • I declare a war on jerks! Wait... jerks is an even more generic term than trolls! I always thought that the term trolls sort of mapped to certain behaviors... but maybe not... Interesting video!

  • your awesome man, great point. I just subscribed :)

  • So, trolls is not a natural class? Who would have known. We need to talk to some metaphysicians about this... :)

  • Even actors, who are professional speakers, are losing grip on their craft. Go to the theatre and watch as they slur their speech and fail to properly enunciate.

  • Vicious people reupload users' embarassing videos, twist them, and title them *bitch*, *cunt*, or *cock sucking whore* so that thousands of people can abuse them for years.

YouTube needs to filter out swear words in comments and titles.

YouTube needs to give users control over their videos and remove reuploads that are taken without their permission.

    Scott aka globetrvllr2

  • Does that include cloning other YTers channels?

  • a6487487,

It could. I originally made this site to fight a clone that has been abusing a teenage girl for years. It is an example of everything I am talking about.

    Scott aka globetrvllr2

  • You cloned the angrylittlegir1's channel to fight someone cloning her channel? Is that like preventing bank robberies by robbing all the banks in town before the robbers arrive?

  • Hi a6487487,

You bring up a good point. This account only focused on a hate site for a while and it tells people I am basing this issue on YouTube experience.

But I do plan on opening up a globetrvllr2 account later and using that over the long-term.

    Thanks for the feedback,

    Scott aka globetrvllr2

  • "I can maybe name one or two people that know how to craft their language without being on camera."

I'd suggest that this is in large part due not only to the fact that many people who leave text comments don't or can't craft their language, but that because we don't have faces to identify, you don't take notice or remember those who do. After all, without looking, how many non-video posting YouTubers could you name right now? Compare that to how many video posting members you could rattle off.

  • Also...

Surely Obama doesn't write his own material; so his potentially recognizable style wouldn't apply to his written speeches, would it?

  • i think you speak pretty well.

  • Fakesagan thinks immendum is an idiot... I would have to agree with him on that at least.

  • What do you mean by "crafting their language?"

  • but than agn when r u crrct......u seem 2 think as tho as u r crrct abt alot of stuff and u spk in this manner of tone as if were that u think u know more than others.......when in fact u know much abt shit as any other dumb ass out there....and than u say oh well fakesagan isnt crrct abt anything.... maybe u shld look at urself more and just c whos actlly crrct.......but ull prob say that u r crrct most of the time ......dont fraud the fraud......figure it out....

  • ROFL! alein53XF13Nd Are you disabled?

  • Maybe you should use more vowels. "crrct". "abt" "spk". Wow. Really?

And do you think that you are "crrct" about the things you talk about? I'm going to go out on a limb at guess that you do.

  • Stylistically consistent? Obama's speeches barely ever delve into hard policy discussion or substantive analysis of his intentions. It's all just fluff over-generalizations masked in pseudo-poetic nonsense.

  • troll can be defined the same way bad can, trolls are people you don't like.

  • I didn't know about this channel.

There is a definition of trolling, it's the oldest one, someone that is just fishing for responses, specifically, someone whose goal is to emotionally manipulate you, not converse.

  • i say "bottle" with the T's

  • Great vid, glad I took the TeaTime detour. There is the audience/preformer dynamic missing within this troll discussion IMO. 'Troll feedback loop' does provide the valuable sevice of Absorb/Filter/Comment-Troll action( which you mentioned briefly). To quote Pinker 'Not Fuck You'.

    Thx

  • great point about obama, not a great orator, merely a good speech reader, not unlike an actor. whenever he is forced to say something without a teleprompter he is a stutterer and a long pauser and an "uhhhhh.."

but i dont like him anyway so my assessment isnt really fair

  • Hav you considered the role of christianity in this discussion, every week we go and listen to a public speaker-live, we interact with each other, and then in many churches there are midweek interactions which fuel further speech. Do you think this puts christianity at an advantage as the language degrades in the secular? which is not to say that we have been immune from our lexicon losing words: exegesis, exposition, substitutionary atonement. but in many circles these words remain.

  • one thing that concerns me is the prevalence of extemporaneous sermons on sundays. it is rare to find a pastor who writes it out or crafts it thoroughly in written form. I wonder what the staying power of these sermons will be without a written copy, even though you can dl as mp3, stream, or cd's. but on the other hand, it has made some adept speakers: mark driscoll, john macarthur, etc. in fact i think that the best speakers today are either pastors or teachers.

  • there is a radio program by the whitehorseinndotorg about radical informality in christendom. (from a few months back) it is very similar in points of criticism about students inability to write formally.

  • Perhaps those who use only text on their videos just consider their security as invaluable, perhaps they just don't want freakazoid trolls to track them down to their house and kill them.

    I'm just saying...

  • *grunt*

    *shuffle*

    *gesticulate*

  • TROLL!

  • Victor & fakesagan are fucking idiots.

i don't like your whole commercial bullshit either but you get huge respect for pissing on this topic.

    NOW PISS ON ME PLEEEEEASE!!

    *kneels & opens mouth*

  • forget the pissing on... of me ¬¬

i have some issues with some of... your issues...

    which seem kinda... elitist? snobbish?

yeah, i'm happy with my crafting of language in this comment. speaking this or showing my face would, infact, degrade my point

  • p.s Citizenworm is also a fucking retard.

  • I'd probably lose my job if I put my face on camera.

  • REALLY?

What have we come to as a country when expressing your opinion publicly can cost you your job.

"Freedom of speech-just watch what you say."

  • I thought it was always this way. People smile at you and nod when you say something they disagree with and tell you it's fine. Then you are the one in the unemployment line thinking it was "budget cuts."

  • Any chance the debate with TheCarruths got recorded?

  • I have to say this is one of the top five best youtube videos I've ever seen. You make some great points. I may blog about this, I hope you don't mind... =/

    Keep up the excellent work!

  • I would make a video respons to the troll issue but for the life of me I can't find the power cable for my battery charger so text will have to do. So, trolls as an insult. I agree that it is being used as an insult or a label for people that for what ever reason someone doesn't like. But it wasn't always this way. Back in the bad old days it was a description of a person or groupd who's only reason for being online was to insult strangers. The Yahoo groups of old where notorious for them. cont>

  • From my understanding the term 'troll' was taken from the fairy tale creature that hid under the brindge and would jump out and eat the innocent little children as they crossed. With this description in mind I see "trolls" as those that wait in a forum, or blog or vlog etc (ie, under a brindge) for the little children (ie, unsuspecting net user crusing the super highway) to came across there little spot on the net and then pounce and eat them up. They get a satistaction from it in the same cont>

  • way a school yard bully gets pleasure or satisfaction from making the target of their attack cry for mum.

Unfortunetely we now live in a society of whingers that like to play the victim (sad but true in my experience) and every 'victim' needs an tyrant. What comes from that are people that start believing that anyone who expresses a different opinion are in same way being a tyrant and the word troll had been used for so long that it was simple just to label said person with that cont>

  • description regardless of the accuracy. This is where it starts being used as an insult.

Trolls of old knew they where trolls and wore the badge proudly. Now we have people who are not trolls, who simply do not like another person or their opinion and have a penchant for explitives being labeled without justification, at least in their minds. This person may be sweet as pie on any other thread but within the thread where the label is given they are 'the troll'.

    None of this says cont>

  • anything about how to put a stop to trolls but like I said in a comment in one of givemeabreakmans video's, there have always been trolls and there will always be trolls. The trick I think is for everyone to know a troll when they see it and not just throw the term around willy nilly.

Sorry for the essay length comment(s), just wanted to get that out there.

    peace to you.

  • Amen x

  • I always craft my language, and I write very very formally. I try to, at least. I think a lot more people do that you give credit for.

I think you may have a point, though, about verbal language. Of course there needs to be a balance between the two, and I think we're preserving that, despite what you might think.

  • Well, Az, you are certainly doing a service with your insightful commentary on language. So what do you think will happen to German?

  • The word "German" will remain an excellent segway when talking about how people always seem to want more lebensraum.

They also have Oktoberfest, so I predict that the German language is safe...for now.

  • Haha, Oktoberfest, haha...Sehr witzig, ham wir ja erst drei milliarden mal gehört...

But in all seriousness...we keep coming up with new words, and all people remember are the old ones.

  • YouTube shouldn't censore atheists or Christians but it needs to limit abuse.

Sadists reupload users' humiliating videos, title them *bitch* or *cunt,* and trash them for years.

YouTube needs to remove reuploads of users' speeches without their permission, especially if they distort users' body image.

YouTube filters need to prevent swear words from posting in comments and titles.

People that show their faces are often too scared to say anything meaningful.

    Scott aka globetrvllr2

  • No, don't censor swear words. That would be ridiculous.

  • Haters put *stupid cunt,* *arrogant bitch,* and *cock sucking whore* in video titles and tags in order to abuse users for years.

    YouTube needs to limit this.

    Scott aka globetrvllr2

  • and who does a search for "arrogant bitch"?

  • I didn't have to do a search. I have been defending a teenager from a video with a similar title for a year.

    Scott aka globetrvllr2

  • Yeah, but most people don't notice these vids because they don't look for them. Though I guess it should be possible for users to complain about re-uploading, especially if done in derogatory fashion. Nevertheless, that is no reason to censor comments. Also, they'll just use other words instead.

  • The video abusing a teenager had over 1,000 abusive comments over a year and has many other hater videos linked to it.

It's tame now because stopped making videos last year and I have fought it on its comment board for six months.

Most swear words can be filtered out. Abbreviations would by cryptic and much milder.

    Scott aka globetrvllr2

  • Dude, they didn't stop because of you, I know how these people work. Dissent, however justified, only fuels their madness. Boredom usually causes them to stop. But they'll always be there in one form or another, and censoring everyone else will do nothing...

  • They finally stopped because they practically shoved her off YouTube a year ago.

I did make a big difference because she left YouTube and others didn't take the time to continually defend her afterwards.

It will make a huge difference removing reuploads of users' videos when they flag them and filtering out abusive language.

    Scott aka globetrvllr2

  • Certainly morally, it's what i would have done. Still I doubt you influenced the "trolling" in any way.

  • Over a thousand people were having a party for many months bashing her without a continuous voice against them.

I posted enough comments to dominate the board and discredit the site when new viewers came, even though the fake hater site tried to block me many times.

    Scott aka globetrvllr

    PS

Are you arguing conscientious members on YouTube are powerless to stop chronic abuse?

  • Well, I think the real haters discredit themselves. So I think there is little point in arguing with them unless they actually make a coherent case, at which point they are no longer simply haters. This is part of the problem with the internet. The worst of humanity, usually separated by space and knowledge, can come together and have a party. But you can't do much against that.

  • Haters badly abuse people by uploading their most humiliating videos and rubbing it into them in front of thousands of people for years.

This is a real problem and it does horrible damage.

    Scott aka globetrvllr2

  • So do something about the re-uploading. Because censoring comments won't help in the long run. If a vid has the same content as an earlier one by another user and that user complains, YouTube should pull the doppelgänger.

  • Filtering swear words will make a HUGE difference.

Hate videos become far more aggressive when swear words appear in the title and tags.

Comment boards become very vicious, even for mildly dissenting vidoes, when they are loaded with swear words.

A filter for swear word text is the BEST place to start because it is proactive, consistent, and doesn't require huge resources. It would be much more effective and honest than algorithms that demote videos.

    Scott aka globetrvllr2

  • It would also infringe everyone elses rights. Sometimes it's worth the extra effort to bring real justice.

  • No it legally wouldn't unless we tried to sue you in court for it.

We live by rules every day. That is why you don't swear at work.

These rules would set set up a safe environment without obstructing intelligent discussion.

YouTube already places limits on abusive language for our safety. That's why you don't have the right to post rape or death threats.

    Scott aka globetrvllr2

  • Azrienoch, the way you described the "war on trolls" is alot like the "War on terror" as there is no select target, and there is no clear victory as well.

I'm from a big group of people online who kind of sprouted the whole "troll" persona. A troll isn't a type of person, it's like an adverb.

Trolling in text comments is just so much faster and funnier than doing it in a video.

Trolling is very popular in forums, and especially in imageboards(where i "reside")

    Just don't feed the trolls.

  • FS is embarrassing us anarchists by calling himself one. He talks about class war as if it were a 'avant garde' idea.

  • In effect every comment we make, we are drolling, damn dhese d's

  • Your eloquence is remarkable. You've got yourself a new sub. Look forward to watching more. - John Reagan

  • You might want to do a Google on KIBO and

    alt.religion.kibology, because trolls are real

but taggings weenies as trolls is just a form of diversion for the real trolls. GRIN

  • troll isnt an insult, it is a label or a description.

the troll haters may think otherwise but we find the term quite fitting.

also there are lots of trolls who make videos, so i dont know where you get this "trolls only do text comments and dont show their face" shit

  • I'm pretty sure you just have selective hearing.

  • One thing I'm not quite sure about: What did you mean by "crafting your language?"

  • ive been thinking about that also i think language is evolving and. i say languange because its not just americans that talk like that. and maybe in the future we will all speak one language and the internet culture will be a big part of it. oh and also we will all be goo backs J/K but yeah oh no cam sorry

  • Elaina sent this to me

    subscribed. I like you

  • I was typing all that and just got to the end of the video where you talk about the disappearance of formal writing. That's what I'm getting at. Guess I should have watched the whole thing before typing so much. Ha!

  • Yeah, words change or dissapear all the time from mispronounciation. I may have said "not" but I meant "not just." See? I do it too!

  • wash your hair... its christmas again... iam not a troll either....its just higene.

  • Continued... again:

So, I agree with what you say in this video except for what I previously mentioned. As I stated in the BlogTV chat, I believe it is being overlooked about the threat that as the language gets simplified to fit the rising text medium that it will bleed in to everyday and formal communication over time. As Orwell stated when writing about newspeak in "1984" when the language is simplified then you limit ways to express thought and could therefore limit thought itself.

  • Continued:

She tried to help them understand they could not write the way they speak. Now, this is just in formal situations, and I do understand that languages change overtime. Who knows, someday "and" could be "an" and maybe "ask" could become "acks." The problem with text today is that space is limited in transmission size (e.g. these comment boxes) and so words are shortened or left out. I believe if the trend continues we will see words disappearing from the language.

  • I disagree with what you said about deterioration of language. I DO think it is in grammar, spelling, and word shortening. My example would be that my sister-in-law is a 10th grade English teacher and the other day she was venting about the students' essays. She stated many students did not even know the proper use of the word "and" and repeatedly spelled it "n, in, or an." She tried to explain but students could not grasp the concept of formal writing vs casual speech.

  • Text borrows from the spoken word and speech relies on the written word. They are each others bread and butter.

How a war ever started that somehow makes the two, or people who use them, enemies, is beyond me.

The "service" you seem to think "speakers" on YouTube are "making to mankind", I would remind you brought us such gems as: "Fucktard" and "Mookstick".

The proper attitude, IMO, on YouTube is mockery. That is hard to do when videos are as thoughtful and well put as this one though.Thanx

  • Wait a sec are you saying that the term "dick head" was originally "tick head"? And what does the mean...

  • I swear.... whenever playing your video on Gimmeabreakman's channel there is no stereo sound but after going directly to the video page it does have stereo. Weird.... perhaps my ears are playing tricks on me. Good video 4 stars.

  • A lot of really interesting bits here!

The info about libraries was totally new to me.

You have such a breadth of knowledge - it's impressive.

  • Thanks Elaina! I missed this during the

    Parliamentary meltdown.

  • You made some excellent points in this video. Very interesting.

  • In context of the war. A troll is defined as a person who creates a faceless channel for the sole purpose of sowing discord and critising specific people. It's other purposes include being able to get away with said comments without any accountability. A troll can tell you that you are ugly while hiding his own hideous disfigured face. I used to hate people like that. Now I accept it as part of Youtube. 2b cont.

  • I used to have a channel with a face. I had about 200 or so subs. I often wanted to tell someone they sucked but didn't want to start drama. so I used a sock for that purpose. That was when I imagined that most people have a sock for that purpose. I also realized that leaving coments is less time consuming than making a video showing my face, and it eliminated drama. Sometimes my disagreements were worth a troll comment but not worth making an enemy so the sock came in handy. 2b cont.

  • I was often attacked by "trolls". I hated them for calling me ugly when I could not see their mug. They always described themselves as handsome or attractive like thefriendlygeek always did. Does anyone remember him? Now I realize that "trolls' are just part of the game and I quit whining about them. I dumped my old account and now troll around freely commenting without concern. It's great. I don't have any loyalties and can switch sides at will. I might go back on cam someday.

  • Excellent video! Very interesting points very well put.

I've been subbed to your Azrienoch channel for a while now but didn't know you had this one. I'm coming aboard!

  • Very engaging video! I've made videos before on an old account, but I felt kind of exposed and plus people always said the things I wanted to say - only better lol.

  • 面白です。 interestesting.

  • Excellent video. It's the first I have seen of yours. I came over from Gimmeabreakman's video and was pleasantly surprised. You're interesting to listen to.

  • This video is a gem. However, I do have one small quibble.

You said language deteriorates over time. I think that is a judgment call rather than a neutral observation. It assumes that the language in the past was better than the language of today. This is analogous to claiming that humans are the pinnacle of evolution. It is purely a judgment call and a good argument could be put forth that cockroaches are better adapted to their niche than we are.

  • I think it would be better to say that language "evolves" over time than to say that it "deteriorates" over time.

But other than that, this is a very thoughtful presentation.

  • "better to say that language "evolves"..than to say.."deteriorates"

I think his use of the word deteriorates wasn't that misplaced. Language does evolve as you say, but there are certain consistent stages that occur in the change of the phonetics of speech in many languages. Assimilation- like where an n becomes an m when next to a p, Consonants weaken- aspirated k, t, p becomes g, d, b. Vowels weaken along a path. Az mentioned concrete words become grammatical. It's not random like evolution.

  • I agree. An example is the various translations of the bible. Wrod changes can mean the difference between a grave or a fiery pit, eternal death or eteranal torment.

  • hey masked, I think the use of the word "deterioration" in linguistics is more literal than metaphorical, without connotations of language being better. Rocks deteriorate, but that doesn't mean they were better once. In biology, evolution happens through natural selection and mutation in reproduction. In language, evolution happens through deterioration and grammaticalization. You need both the tearing down and the building up.

  • I say bottle with the t. I'm special.

  • The first pieces of text may have been on human skin, tattoos...

  • There actually is a subculture of trolls (see 4chan) that refer to themselves as such, but they're probably not very prominent on YouTube nor are they correctly defined. I will conceed that putting up videos is not nearly as easy as it looks and I would still be suffering through commercials and reality TV if nobody did it. Thanks for your response, I really enjoyed your insight on the subject. I had a conversation about this with my English professor last year. Might even make a video about it.

  • I don't think that we will hear Obama utter the words,"I am the decider."

But, I don't think that Bush is buffoon that he portrays himself to be. I wonder if he has portrayed himself in this way so that people won't hold him as responsible for his actions.

  • Labelling never works. I find the apparent need of much of humanity to demonise one group or another, to imagine false heirarchies, quite bizarre.

  • do you mean these liTTle devils i'm Typing righT now in this commenT section?

As a public service will you send this video To Congress?

  • I think that there's is a downside to video vs text. It increases the level of noise versus 'signal'. Think of the Nixon Kennedy debate. People who watched on TV thought Kennedy won. People who listened on the radio thought Nixon had won. Think about how much less personality conflict(aka drama) there would be if it this was text based. Don't get me wrong, I think that the price is worth it. But let's remember that there is a price.

  • Because Nixon did not appear trustworthy (go figure).

The converse, however is also true and I think one of the points missed in this video is that many people who object to the "faceless" is that they feel they cannot trust them if they cannot see them.

But there is a word in sales and marketing for those that base their feelings of trustworthiness in such seeing:

    Chump.

Sincerity is a remarkably easy thing to fake; and those that rely on sincerity are remarkably easy to manipulate.

  • Good point. Sincerity alone is empty.

  • I think that you're remarks about the word 'troll' are spot on. It's become the Internet equivalent of accusing someone of being a witch or communist.

  • There are a lot of people who make videos who should stop because they are just attention seeking fuckheads who take 3-10 minutes to say what could be said in a 500 word/or less text message. It's only because of how lonely the average internet geek is that having some face on the screen is so important. For that matter, the booty channels kick the heck out of talk channels; that nullifies the argument in favor of intellectualism being spread through video as opposed to writing.

  • not relevant to this issue but..I cited you in a paper :P

  • Oh?

  • From an old video actually. ("I am a man of many religions.")

Because I used some of your examples of the utility in fictitious concepts such as the value of money. It's for my mythology class oddly enough. I am presenting it tomorrow at an expo and hoping to win a scholarship whooo :D

  • internet chat has seriously damaged my ability to communicate...

  • a troll originally meant someone who'd go around and try to get a response out of someone in any way. It came from the fishing term "trolling". Which is to drag your hook behind your boat to snag fish randomly.

Usually the term troll now days means someone who attacks people not based on their own beliefs but the need to attack people.

  • I got it, you're a Taurus right? roflol

  • Buggeration. It seems youtube won't let me comment here.

  • What the hell. I tried posting four or five times before that and it didn't work.... one more try eh....

  • Damn you youtube. I still can't post the comment I wanted.... weird...]

  • i'm want to listen to him, but i can't stop looking at his nose ring... lol..

by the way, NO it is NOT an insult.. the word was founded BY trolls...

  • Lots of country folk in Alaska and Hawaii still like to sit and talk story.

  • one of my main reasons for frequenting youtube is my interest in how people can express themselves verbally, visually, and otherwise

i would love to be able to do this to more effectively express myself, but my broken camera has rudely denied by the honor of doing so

still, i do what i can with this limited pallet of standard-font characters, to best convey what ever itch it is i am feeling within the fissures of my mind at the time

this may range from a simple "lol" to a full-blown text rant

  • very well-said

i think it is great to keep a variety of forms of expression in use, and let the same ideas come through, at different levels of formality, through any medium through which we find the chance to channel them

but maybe that's just that how i see things as an artist..

  • I think as the net gets faster and faster more people will use web cams more and more. the thing I hate most about blogtv and things like that is the lag and that I can not do other things at the same time.

  • There are Trolls who vlog that are every bit as bad as Trolls that stay 100% anonymous (which are the vast majority). It's not the presentation that matters, it's the intent and the content (and the context). A Troll's sole purpose is to destroy and disrupt and cause people harm.

  • I'm so glad that Victor turned me on to this channel! I didn't know you had another.

I'm not part of this "troll war", but I still DO think that those of us that aren't too pussy to show our faces ARE better than those that don't. Talking trash without backing it up is a giant, cowardly cop-out.

I love listening to you! (sub'd!)

  • ya same here lol

  • The people that vblog and the people who comment make this community. Even myspace is mostly run by text communication and there are friendships that evolve as well as drama. I dont think of one as better than the other. Both forms of communication are needed 50/50 for Youtube to function as an intimate community. ~Raven

  • You should've made a video response to fakesagan every time you disagree with him, instead of dismissing it and saying 'he's never correct'. I think it would've made some pretty nice dialogue and viewing.

  • He blocked me immediately when he opened his Fakesagan account thanks to his hypocrisy regarding the old Atheist Conspiracy video I made featuring websnarf. And I'm not about to make a video response to someone I can't leech subs from just because I'm blocked.

  • Oh yeah, those old websnarf is a duplicitous weasel videos that came out afterwards were pretty classic. It's not good being butt hurt for that long, it's been like two years already.

  • FS is the only person on YT to block me (even though I have been a bit "testy" with a few) explicitly because I was trying to have a nice dialogue with him.

So far as my own experience is concerned, "Nice dialogue with Fake Sagan" is an oxymoron.
