I think people miss the experience they had with the game when they were younger. I remember when I was totally obsessed with Spyro. Oh how I loved that game. I remember how thrilled I was when I finally beat Nasty Gnorc, or when I finally beat a treasure round after many, many tries. But now, I can play the game like a pro, mastering the controls and not missing a gem or a dragon... It just isn't the same. I don't get the thrill from accomplishment I once did. but at least I have the memory.
i never had an console before. But i liked some retro stuff and on a drunk night me and a friend talked about some old games. en two weeks later we bout bought a Nintendo64 pretty awesome
1:31-1:51 thats my chilldhood exept that i love the n64 and snes and nes too as well as ocarina but nostalgia wise and the games i go to replay are mario sunshine and wind waker soo many memories. i remember we used to have a n64 before the gamecube and played mario 64 and goldeneye but i was what maybe 5 years old back then and i cant remember much about the nintendo 64 but i still love all nuntendo consoles. :) nice video
its not so much the game that people miss. its the experience and nostalgia. When someone plays the game that they "miss" it doesnt have the same effect as it did the first time. Sure games can be replayed but they dont quite feel the same, you already know whats going to happen and everything has been seen before. When people say they miss a game, they are saying they miss the experience that they had with it.
I believe that Skies of Arcadia Legends is perhaps the best game of all time, only in my opinion and I just love the story of it.
The fact that it was an originally Dreamcast game, it was ported to the Gamecube as Skies of Arcadia Legends, it was my first Japanese RPG experience after a long time not being able to play one because I owned the wrong consoles and it was just a memorable experience that Zelda has never done.
It really is true that we miss the time we spent playing the game more than the game itself. I mean no matter how epic halo 1 is and how much I enjoy it, I'll never experience the moment of beating that final level for the first time on legendary Co-op with my friend. After probably hundreds of deaths we finally beat it with just me left alive with one bar of health and 3 seconds left on the clock. That's about as close as it gets.
Spot on, we do miss the way the game makes us feel, although saying that i went through A Link to the Past (My favourite game of all time and the first one i ever played) and i actually enjoyed it more this time, I don't think i'm that bias but i can tell as like i said its my first game, and you never forget your first game.
Majora's mask is MY all time favorite. That's with super metroid, mario 64, and even OoT coming in a close second. Like, seriously. I play them an equal amount to this day. OoT:9.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999. Majora's mask:10. Just that simple.
When poeople say they miss a game, they mean the first time experience. That's why people want sequels; so they can experience that amazing feeling again from furstration to the sweet feel of success, like when you first get an upgraded sword, or finish your first world castle, or when you finally get the plasma beam and relize how awsome it is. This is why I also like the N64 over ANY system; because all of the origional 3d ideas are built into that one system. Ideas that have been lingering.
The first Zelda game I played was ocarina of time. But I don't really like that game that much. Maybe it's because the soulutions to a lot of the puzzles are right in your face, or because they are thoughtout in a way that completly deviates from my thought process. My favorite Zelda is Twilight Princess. It's awesome. They puzzles are thought out the same way, but it doesn't feels like it. I can't explain why, it just doesn't.
in my opinion, its not the games that are missed, it is our childhood that we miss and we try to find anything to bring us back to those days of pure fun and enjoyment....this video made me think back and im only 16 and i miss it so much and id do anything to go back to it. :,)
this spoke to me in a way you could not imagine..... I have been questioning why I can't play an old game and get that same feeling I did back when I was a child, back then it wasnt nostalgia, it was happening, you never really thought, "hey these games are gonna be old, ya just played them. Nowadays people play older games to feel that feeling again, and the only way we can do that is to play them like we did before, not to get that feeling of being a kid again, but for the pure enjoyment
-]. I wasn't notified that you uploaded this, well anyway I bought most the games again, even nes ones. What I am missing is the fun multiplayers on games and when everyone was more into variety, we won't get that back, now I play all the games alone :( good vid though .[-
I don't really miss the "old days" too much, I mean, I guess I can call them old days, for me atleast. I'm only 14, but OOT was a big part of my childhood, now I might be going crazy like some people, but my little cousins have a N64 and they're always playing OOT and MM so I'm kind of reliving my childhood through their eyes...Is this creepy at all?
Man I remember I used to HATE videogames until I was 8 and my mom found her old NES in the basement. I couldn't believe how fun super Mario bros was and castlevania was also a favorite. Funny how my first console was the first nintendo console but 15 years later.
it's true! I went and bought a lot of the classic games that I used to play and I was still missing something. It's not about the games, it's about your moments playing the game at the time in your childhood.
i also have to say i was only 5 when i got my n64. the reason y many people miss these games is because they used to be kids and now thier grown up and like the newer generation in gaming
ur right a lot has changed i remember playing good old n64 with my friends all night those were the good days if you go back and play them today u wont have the same feeling you had for that game. video games bring back good memories:)
When I was two I enjoyed Zelda LttP. When I first saw OoT, I was too young to understand a franchise and thought it was a knockoff riding off of LttP's success. Then I realized how spectacular OoT is. I have since learned that people tend to be blind to the excellence of the new generation of games because of nostalgia, or lack of it, for the old games. Perhaps we could learn something from the nativity of a young two year old?
I agree completly,if you miss a game go and play it again, heck some games you may like maybe be placed in collections like The Megadrive Collection for the PSP,that's the purpose of collection games right?
And if you really want to play it but can't be assed buying, pirate it. Play it online with Netplay and recreate your favorite moments from the past.
Seriously, though, THANK YOU. People need to learn to get over themselves and stop whining about the "good old times". OoT is indeed cool, but BY GOD IS IT OVERRATED. I like Mega man 2, sure, but I also like Mega Man 1 the same. And Killzone. And Jak and Daxter.
I will never forget the past, but I won't let it hold my opinions back.
@beastalitator "overrated" is an extremely overused term. Ocarina of time is a fantastic game and it deserves all the praise it gets. Plus seriously bro piracy? cmon..
I find Nintendo fans are often the ones full of nostalgic yearning. Particularly people who owned an N64. I'm loving current gen games. I just picked up Resistance 3 and am ready to fight off an alien invasion in 1950's new york. That doesn't mean I don't still pop in an old cartridge every once in a while.
@Bloodthr0e It's not all nostalgia. Anytime I lay any fps, I get bored within 20 minutes of playing. Shoot, run behind a rock or wall, reload, and repeat. I don't how it's so entertaining. I don't even think the wii is good and it's nintendo. The Gamecube was amazing, event though sales say it was crap. It has some of the best games ever made for it.
im a newer gen gamer but even still, i love playing the gamecube, N64, ps2, gameboy, ect. but even though i have found many current gen games which are fantastic (like portal 2) many are just becoming repetitive and boring. i really should play some older games that people say are good so i can really compare
I played goldeneye just the other day and boy was it much worse then I remember. That is the reason i dont like the N64 that much, the pioneering 3d tech made the controls a bunch of crap.
do u know why because it was our childhood and it wont be the same its not that we can nor cant play it again its that we wont cause there memories we like to think back to how fun it use to
For me, I feel that developers today don't put the love into creating their games like they used to. It's more about appealing to mass audiences (non-gamers) and making money now. I find the occasional gem in this generation of gaming, but I'm much more satisfied by playing older games from the '90s and early '00s that I missed out on.
What I do miss is having the free time to play these games and figure them out on my own.
@liveFinalFantasy if you want to play games where developers put passion into making their games than play indie games, indie games get so overlooked it's such a shame I mean for every limbo there's a hundred other indie games that get overlooked. Plus indie games always have the most most innovation games since they need to stand out from the crowd. Big tripple A blockbusters usually just rely on fun repetitive gameplay and graphics like final fantasy no jk I'm just messing I love Final fantasy
@liveFinalFantasy That really is true. My top 5 favorite RPG's of all time are all older generation console games, and many of my favorite games are older ones. I mean I still think the halo 1 campaign is the best and most fun to play through out of the entire franchise, and the older Final Fantasy games had something that the new ones just seem to lack. I haven't really enjoyed Final Fantasy since FFX, which is still one of my very favorite games. I have spent too many hours playing blitzball.
I think what people really miss is the sense of wonder one has in their youth. These games just symbolize that. The same way my mother clams up thinking about riding bikes with her brothers and sisters in the neighborhood where she was raised. It seems shallow, but this generation is far more introverted than any that have ever existed. Those old games represent magical moments in our youth.
It's true, mostly the memories of being younger. Life was simpler. You didn't care about money, or what was going down. Dont get me wrong, I love legend of Zelda, but I really like twilight princess and it rivals OOT, ATTP as my favorite. Also, there are some pretty good games out there like Mass effect. I think the fans are what ruins it sometimes cause they don't give other games a chance. "ohh those graphics are shit!" Watch your mouth, your only 9. You know what I'm saying?
I think what we really miss is that feeling of playing a game for the first time. You don't know what to expect, you may not even know how to play at first. It's a new world to you. When I played my first game, Spyro the Dragon for the first time, I didn't know what I was doing at first. I got Game Over after Game Over...and when I finally beat the game, I felt fantastic...my heart was pounding! Sometimes I wish I could wipe my memory of that game so I could feel that excitement again...
My first Zelda game was Twilight Princess. It was good, but not the best one of them all. My favorite one has to be Majora's Mask. I would say that OoT is overrated at times, but then again, none of these games would be here without it. It deserves most of the credit it gets because of that, even if its sequels were better.
i grew up with the Gamecube and it's my favorite console of all time. i'd much rather play super mario sunshine than Halo, or Pikmin than Call Of Duty. or even Paper Mario ttyd than Final Fantasy. i miss the days of being able to get the same game that my friend got on Christmas, and being able to talk about it and help each other through the tough puzzles or bosses. Now days, you can't help your friend verbally on Call Of Duty.
I used to pwn at GoldenEye 007 on N64 and after not playing it for about a year (instead playing newer titles), I found the game almost unplayable. Yet, I still love it.
N64 games are great, but today, they definitely look dated. Why rerelease it as a new game in 3D? No matter what anybody says, I will still remember Shenmue and Shenmue II as games that beat anything else I've played or will play.
People miss their childhood more than they miss the games, and thats where the nostalgia comes in, if you had fun with a game in the past, you will remember the great times that game gave you, and you will apraise it for more than it actually is...
I did think super Mario sunshine was a great game and I also miss the times when all of my friends and I would stay up all night playing pokemon on the gba...
The ending of this video is obviously left blank because it is trying to say that we miss our youth.
While this is partially true, the fact of the matter is No Game Can Be Played For Infinity. Our brains eventually learn the pattern of every game and it becomes Boring, so our brain desires something new for it to process. However, just because a game becomes Boring to us, like our Favorite Game of All Time for example, doesn't mean we Love It Any Less.
Your exactly right. This actually happened to me not even a bit back. There was a game called time commando for the psx and i had lost it while moving to a new home when i was younger. Now i really want to get another copy but in my heart i know it wont be good. Its just has a special place in my heart.
I have played every version of Sonic 1. The original, Game Gear, PS3, Xbox 360, Genesis collection, and any version you can think of. I love that game ever since my uncle introduced me to it. It's a fun game and I will always like it. And also, Kirby Air Ride, It's graphics can actually compete with todays games...
wind waker was my first zelda game, and also my favorite. I have played Ocarina of Time, start to finish, and it's good, i admit, but to me, not as good as Wind Waker
I miss the days going over to my best friends house playing Kirby airride, ssbm, 007 nightfire, halo, halo 2 etc. But then he moved away and I only see him every other weekend. Now we both ps3s and any mention to the old games we played he says everytime how terrible the graphics are.
Nowadays people focus on the graphics more than anything else in a videogame. I grew up with n64 and when I play goldeneye or perfect dark, I wonder how could fps' like these could MUTATE into something as crappy
what I miss is the feelings towards a game playing it when you were young... you cant relive those memories, just have to mature and look at games from a teen or adult perspective... trying to create the same memories today is just not possible...
I always loved getting a new game back in the days. I didn't get much money from my parents, but when it came to my birthday or christmas I knew I was going to have the hell of a time playing a new one.
I never got more than 4 games a year and that is why my memories are so deeply connected to those games. And I loved playing together with my brother and some friends.
It was a part of my daily life, of my childhood, of the times. That is why I miss them - memories!
I miss this friend I used to have. When he would come over we would just play super Mario 64 for 3 hours straight! My N64 would get so hot that I'd put it in front of a fan to cool it off faster so I could play again soon. Good times
I never really let Nostalgia over-shadow anything. I used to love loads of games, and recently I re-played them and they didn't age well at all. And the games that I used to play that were good, I never really stopped playing them. The Wind Waker was my first Zelda game, and it is my favorite. Nothing to do with nostalgia because I first played it in 2008, and that same year I played Ocarina of Time Master Quest, Twilight Princess, and Phantom Hourglass.
I bought myself a dreamcast 2 years ago with sonic adventure because I knew I liked that game when I was younger. Nowdays I play N64 at a friends house with games ike turok a series that was discontinued.
I really don't feel nostalgia anymore I play to many classic games on the virtual console so the nostalgia is gone the magic is still there. I think the only peolple that feel nostalgia are the ones that haven't played video since they were kids. A game like Super Mario Bros 3 is one of my favorite games of all time that's not because of nostalgia it's because it's a perfect game to mee. Same with Goldeneye 64 still has great multiplayer and single player mode.
@wiilover07 Not true. I tried getting into other games, like fps's, and all of them get boring to me within a half hour of playing them. It's not just all nostalgia. i just honestly think the n64 and the gamecube are the two best systems I have had.
I hate the whole Nintendo ambassador programe! Why? Its because i see no fun in playing those games! The only game i might think is fun to play is Mario bros! The rest is just blah! bcuz i didnt grow up with them! For me they are just old games with bad controls and sound.. Dont get me wrong though! Im not a xbox 360 call of duty fanboy in anyway! I growup with Nintendo 64 and Playstation 1! And those systems made me love video games till this day! But everything that was before that.. Meh..
@svampreview But those games are fun. I didn't grow up in the nes, or even the snes era, and I find the games fun. Graphics don't make a game everything, and that actually is good video game music, even though it's not orchestrated. Zelda, Zelda 2, Metroid, ballon fighter, and ice climber are all really fun. The others are not so great. Plus you know we will get 10 gba games later on also.
@hungryhungrymetroid i think those games feel pretty slow and dated! The sound do hurt my ears i actually dont care if they r old :( Why its hurting me is bcuz im not used too low quality games! I know that people will really hate me for it! But i just dont see the fun! If i want to play a good 2D plattformer i play New super mario bros or Wario Land and so on and on!
@svampreview You realize people will be saying the exact same thing about the games you just stated. It can'thurt you for being low quality, you just don't seee the enjoyment because you are used to new games as being younger.
this is so true of course you can miss a game but most of the time people just wanna re life the memory's or wanna think back to fun times at one point you said something about nostalgia is in the way but nostalgia isn't bad at all it makes who we are today
I remember a couple of years ago I was at my friends and I played Sonic 1 on SADX and the Bridge Zone music, which i hadn't heard in many years brought back memories of playing it on th SMS at my Aunt and Uncles house when I was very young. Was it the game I missed or those care free days?
i miss crash bandicoot wrath of cortex. but it is not the game i miss its who i played it with. me my brother and my dad would play it non stop together. my mum and dad are now divorced and my brother has moved out. i would give anything for them days again
the year 09. my friend bought a n64 for my brothers birthday... we loved it and he really reccommended ocarina of time... i didnt know what it is and we got it... i swear i liked the game sooo much and my brother who actually owned n64 and all didnt want to play it for some reason... he said it was like complicated or something.... and after my long weeks of nagging that the game is supa awsome he played it and after that played every LOz out there. he even got ds and gameboy... and i had wii...
even though i was born in the year 2000, i growed up (Wait, im not fully grown up yet) with GameCube. My first time playing a video game was when i was 3, it was Super Mario Sunshine and i beat Wind Waker when i was 4. Wind Waker is my favourite Zelda game cause i grew up with it! (Damn, i started crying at ReDeads back then)
Every time someone brings up CoD i nearly hurl. Gosh Call Of Duty is terrible, how does it get good reviews?! Agh, its games like these that make me regret even playing a FPS.
It's the holistic experience of a "carefree" childhood that we missed. Personally, and I agree with some of the comments, that it's such a hassle to purchase and own a decade old game of a decade old machine. That's why we have downloadable ones for the current systems.
That something else you miss is being young and care free.
Nowadays life is such a hassle with too many things to do and not much time for what we want to do. What makes us miss those games is that we played them during that wonderful time era. That's probably why when we play a modern game on our Wii/360/PS3, we notice that something is... missing.
Good video. And yeah, it's not the same to play it now than it was back then. Me and my friend used to play a lot of co-op games. Contra, Super Mario World, Jurrassic Park 2, Turtles Back in Time (or what it was called...) and some other Super Nintendo games! Those were the days. :)
Half of the games I remember playing I never owned and some of them are hard to get since they're pretty rare like Battletoads on the SNES for example.
Well if people miss these games why do they start to bitch and whine when a childhood game is being remade... I thought you wanted to play it aging....
not really. I do think games used to be alot better back in the days (10-15 years ago.) But that's when gaming was still kind of a underground thing and developers and publishers actually cared about the people. Nowadays, because gaming has become such a huge thing, Publishers are totally neglecting everything for the sake of the money they get.
What have been saying for years. However, that doesn't mean there aren't true gems on these retro consoles that you could say are timeless classics. I think nostalgia clouds our judgement more when it comes to a series that is well past its prime, but still has a strong fan base who are willing to lower themselves to defend it (I am looking at you Sonic!).
I played Ocarina of time for the first time in my life in 2010 yes 2010 and I thought it was one of the best games I had ever played and guess what nostalgia had nothing to do with it I sware to god.
@getsomegames It's all personal opinion. I've played Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Metal Gear Solid, Ico, Tetris, etc. And my favorite game is Ristar. Yes I just said Ristar.
@RedWolf3487 I love ristar it's such a shame that ristar was originally going to be sega's mascot, but then sega found sonic and we all know how popular he got and how ristar was neglected
I think people miss the experience they had with the game when they were younger. I remember when I was totally obsessed with Spyro. Oh how I loved that game. I remember how thrilled I was when I finally beat Nasty Gnorc, or when I finally beat a treasure round after many, many tries. backlash96chris 5 months ago
it's true! I went and bought a lot of the classic games that I used to play and I was still missing something. It's not about the games, it's about your moments playing the game at the time in your childhood.

WillpowerXG 5 months ago
I agree completly,if you miss a game go and play it again, heck some games you may like maybe be placed in collections like The Megadrive Collection for the PSP,that's the purpose of collection games right?
KaitosTH 5 months ago
And if you really want to play it but can't be assed buying, pirate it. Play it online with Netplay and recreate your favorite moments from the past.
Seriously, though, THANK YOU. People need to learn to get over themselves and stop whining about the "good old times". OoT is indeed cool, but BY GOD IS IT OVERRATED. I like Mega man 2, sure, but I also like Mega Man 1 the same. And Killzone. And Jak and Daxter.
I will never forget the past, but I won't let it hold my opinions back.

Bloodthr0e 5 months ago 2
@Bloodthr0e It's not all nostalgia. Anytime I lay any fps, I get bored within 20 minutes of playing. Shoot, run behind a rock or wall, reload, and repeat. I don't how it's so entertaining. I don't even think the wii is good and it's nintendo. The Gamecube was amazing, event though sales say it was crap. It has some of the best games ever made for it.
hungryhungrymetroid 5 months ago
im a newer gen gamer but even still, i love playing the gamecube, N64, ps2, gameboy, ect. but even though i have found many current gen games which are fantastic (like portal 2) many are just becoming repetitive and boring. i really should play some older games that people say are good so i can really compare

For me, I feel that developers today don't put the love into creating their games like they used to. It's more about appealing to mass audiences (non-gamers) and making money now. I find the occasional gem in this generation of gaming, but I'm much more satisfied by playing older games from the '90s and early '00s that I missed out on.
What I do miss is having the free time to play these games and figure them out on my own.
liveFinalFantasy 5 months ago 8
@liveFinalFantasy if you want to play games where developers put passion into making their games than play indie games, indie games get so overlooked it's such a shame I mean for every limbo there's a hundred other indie games that get overlooked. Plus indie games always have the most most innovation games since they need to stand out from the crowd. Big tripple A blockbusters usually just rely on fun repetitive gameplay and graphics like final fantasy no jk I'm just messing I love Final fantasy
getsomegames 5 months ago
@liveFinalFantasy World of Goo. That's a labor of love right there. Play it.
AGentertainment 5 months ago 11
@liveFinalFantasy That really is true. My top 5 favorite RPG's of all time are all older generation console games, and many of my favorite games are older ones. I mean I still think the halo 1 campaign is the best and most fun to play through out of the entire franchise, and the older Final Fantasy games had something that the new ones just seem to lack. I haven't really enjoyed Final Fantasy since FFX, which is still one of my very favorite games. I have spent too many hours playing blitzball.
nppsf 2 months ago
I think what people really miss is the sense of wonder one has in their youth. These games just symbolize that. The same way my mother clams up thinking about riding bikes with her brothers and sisters in the neighborhood where she was raised. It seems shallow, but this generation is far more introverted than any that have ever existed. Those old games represent magical moments in our youth.
ffcloud321 5 months ago
It's true, mostly the memories of being younger. Life was simpler. You didn't care about money, or what was going down. Dont get me wrong, I love legend of Zelda, but I really like twilight princess and it rivals OOT, ATTP as my favorite. Also, there are some pretty good games out there like Mass effect. I think the fans are what ruins it sometimes cause they don't give other games a chance. "ohh those graphics are shit!" Watch your mouth, your only 9. You know what I'm saying?
MrBumpits 5 months ago
I think what we really miss is that feeling of playing a game for the first time. You don't know what to expect, you may not even know how to play at first. It's a new world to you. When I played my first game, Spyro the Dragon for the first time, I didn't know what I was doing at first. I got Game Over after Game Over...and when I finally beat the game, I felt fantastic...my heart was pounding! Sometimes I wish I could wipe my memory of that game so I could feel that excitement again...

HylianPirate278 5 months ago
My first Zelda game was Twilight Princess. It was good, but not the best one of them all. My favorite one has to be Majora's Mask. I would say that OoT is overrated at times, but then again, none of these games would be here without it. It deserves most of the credit it gets because of that, even if its sequels were better.
HylianPirate278 5 months ago
i grew up with the Gamecube and it's my favorite console of all time. i'd much rather play super mario sunshine than Halo, or Pikmin than Call Of Duty. or even Paper Mario ttyd than Final Fantasy. i miss the days of being able to get the same game that my friend got on Christmas, and being able to talk about it and help each other through the tough puzzles or bosses. Now days, you can't help your friend verbally on Call Of Duty.

Nowadays people focus on the graphics more than anything else in a videogame. I grew up with n64 and when I play goldeneye or perfect dark, I wonder how could fps' like these could MUTATE into something as crappy

Same with Goldeneye 64 still has great multiplayer and single player mode.
wiilover07 5 months ago

Meh..
svampreview 5 months ago
@svampreview But those games are fun. I didn't grow up in the nes, or even the snes era, and I find the games fun. Graphics don't make a game everything, and that actually is good video game music, even though it's not orchestrated. Zelda, Zelda 2, Metroid, ballon fighter, and ice climber are all really fun. The others are not so great. Plus you know we will get 10 gba games later on also.
hungryhungrymetroid 5 months ago
@hungryhungrymetroid i think those games feel pretty slow and dated! The sound do hurt my ears i actually dont care if they r old :( Why its hurting me is bcuz im not used too low quality games! It's the holistic experience of a "carefree" childhood that we missed. Personally, and I agree with some of the comments, that it's such a hassle to purchase and own a decade old game of a decade old machine. That's why we have downloadable ones for the current systems.

Nowadays life is such a hassle with too many things to do and not much time for what we want to do. What makes us miss those games is that we played them during that wonderful time era. That's probably why when we play a modern game on our Wii/360/PS3, we notice that something is... missing.

not really. I do think games used to be alot better back in the days (10-15 years ago.) What have been saying for years. However, that doesn't mean there aren't true gems on these retro consoles that you could say are timeless classics.
