  • thanks it help

  • where can i buy that netting?

  • nice:)

  • How do you attach the netting ?

  • i find the simplest way is to get abunch of burlap, a sewing machine, and spray paint sew the burlap strings onto a set of old clothes and touchit up with spray paint

  • How do you prevent the leg netting from snagging into anything?

  • @Rawberdawb try to avoid thick undergrowth or sticks

  • i bought a ghillie construction set online so im going to need a good video. im not saying yours is bad but...

  • @203Dylan But what?

  • @learningcenter4u not in the bad way but i think that putting in a couple more steps would propbably help someone. Part of it does

  • @203Dylan, I understand your point however the video you see is simply a small cut from the whole video I did on construction. If I showed the entire thing there would be no reason for someone to buy my DVD now would there ?;)

    Thanks for your comment

  • @learningcenter4u dude i think you did a damn good job explaining, im about to save $70 making me a suit to hunt me some deer!

  • did u try to use shue glue? Its much faster and easyer

  • Where is a good place to find good netting. ive looked everywhere and cant find any

  • @mygameissick09 This is apparently a year late but... you can use a camo net from any surplus store. The squares in the net are going to be larger than the ones in the video. You just have to remove all the metal staples to separate the camo material from the thread netting. Also you can check local craft stores for decorative netting which is going to look more like what is used in the video.

  • @JMGibson0983, Ive used the larger netting however I like the smaller net size personally. Removing the staples is a pain in the butt too. A LOT more work.

  • how many/what ply of jute do I need to make a full suit? Like how many feet total and how long are each strand? Can I use paintball pants and paintball jersey instead of BDUs? thanks

  • i ended up usings like 36 yards of burlap. cutting them into 18" squares. any kind of earthy toned pants will do. you dont HAVE to use bdus.

  • @NICKST3R182 im in the process of making a ghillie suit, and i only have the back torso done, and used 600ft of 3ply jute twine. i cut mine between 12 - 15 inches. but i could use alot more twine to make it alot better camouflaged, the one im making is just a prototype.

  • @NICKST3R182 The length of jute depends on how you attach the strands. 12 inches is usually good if you tie them in the middle of the strand to where 6 inches on each end of the strand are hanging free. Couldn't tell you how much you would need though. BDU type material is recommended because of the strength and durability. Check a forum or something to see if maybe someone else has been successful with a paintball jersey or pants.

  • what i did was put some just on it and spray painted it. we i was done i put hair elastics in and got all of my surroundings that i would be hiding in inside the elastic bands. it wirks really well

  • ur right it wud suck if u got pantzed and shot in the butt in the middle of an airsoft war lol

  • Arent soldiers ment to make them themselves? Its what I had to do for my training.

  • I always thought so as well however, if a soldier wanted me to make one for him and was willing to pay my price who am I to argue.

  • are there more to this? like part 2 and 3? thanks!

  • @5233959 Easier for everyone to buy one, but do have the knowledge how to make one in case they need to.

  • Would it be possible for you to make one for another person and how much would it run that person?

  • lol that's cool.:D

  • I am thinking about joining the military. Which branch do you think provides the best overall sniper training with marksmanship and fieldcraft, the Marines or the Army?

  • Marine scout/sniper.

This is simply my personal bias. The army snipers are highly capable of of taking off your head regularly though at 1k meters plus - lol

  • navy seal sniper

  • it determin on how you mind works if you join the marines you better be ready to be brain wash but there the real thing and army can does a little bit the same but it a little less mind game

  • you know i dont get why you said,"basic bdu pants"because bdu stands for'basic drill unit"BTW great job tho.:D

  • actually when I was in the army it stood for Basic duty uniform. The military changes things all the time though. I said basic because until I got a hold of my scissors, nothing had changed on them. :)

  • I may have not been listening but what netting did you put on the pants? Also is that burlap, like the regular burlap at home depot, but just stripped?

  • how much are your videos

  • can u wash it

  • Me and my friend are making 2 suits for paintball but when we crawl around when testing the durability of it, the twine and other materials we use fall off any help???

  • Dont put burlap on the front if you plan on crawling alot.

  • just a question what is a better buy a 1 or 2 piece suit

  • I'm personally fond of the two piece. Anyone else care to sound off about this?

  • Ya, I like the the two peice also, but I make a full ghillied bottom and a cape like thing on the top half. I'd recomend reinforcing the knees, chest, and abs with canvas. But that's just my opinion.

  • two piece can be more convenient sometimes but the one piece is more practical and preferred by the military. Why? Biggest reason is with the two piece it is 'possible' to get sticks caught in etc. between the top and bottom, not likely but it is possible. Secondly stops bugs from crawling in your suit. Thirdly if you add waterproof material it stops water from getting in. Many more reasons but those are definitely some of the strongest reason to use a one piece.

  • Have you ever seen one of these things catch fire? Try getting out of a one piece fast. All the SF guys I have made one for prefer the two piece. It's easier to get cooled off without undressing all the way.

  • The ones the army uses are soaked in fire retardants. I don't know about your particular case...

  • The soldiers are allowed to use whichever one suits them best. The one piece suits are made with nomex flight suits. They are fire-retardent not fireproof. If your suit catches a spark you WILL be a fireball and you will die. That suit will melt to your body in areas. The military prefers the two pc set - period. They are cooler easier to manuver in and easier to replace. if you wear holes in your flight suit you must remake the entire suit. 18 yrs of exp talking here.

  • after talking to a marine corp scout sniperhe told me they prefer not to add fire retardant b/c it gives a large IR signature.

  • all u need to do is use shoe goo it works so well and it takes less time it works just as good as sowing it

    sowing takes to much time

  • In my opinion sewing is the only way to go if you want a quality long lasting suit. Sho goo is ok for paintball though and things like that. I would also add that you need to apply the glue OUTSIDE unless you like your brain fried.

  • Im wanting to make a ghillie suit as well for my kids. They love COD4 and want to be snipers for halloween. With that said,is there a video on how to layer on the jute ? I want to make there's real bushy and full. I bought 2 sets of BDU's (2 pc) for 5 bucks. Also can someone tell me approx. how much jute I will need to cover the shirt and pants...10lb?15lb?....my kids are 9 and 14,they are almost the same size..slim to slender build/about 4'9". Any info will help out thanks

  • I think the best is to sow it on and then shoo goo the knots.

  • Good video. I'm trying to make a ghillie suit now but am having trouble finding netting that doesn't cost a ton. I think i might try and make my own. It would be time consuming but dirt cheap to do.

  • Ask yourself how much money you make per hour at your job. Multiply that amount by the number of hours it's going to take you to make a net. Ask yourself if its still worth it :) Buy a vollyball net and use that. Go to a novelty stor or a store that deals in party theme decorations and ask for decorative netting for a seaside theme, It should be nylon and have very small squares - 3/4 of an inch. Thats what you're looking for.

  • dye the jute. I talked to a former sniper, he told me to cover it lightly with thin layers of twine. Have a light brown or tan base, with sparse green shades. The hat is the most important part, then the jacket, and lastly the pants. Don't forget to use canvas on the front and elbows.

  • should i dye my jute or paint it?

  • Dye it

  • umm if i want like a grassy color what dyes should i get?

  • Match the color of your grassy area.

  • also would coveralls work the same as the bdu pants and shirt?

  • I would only use a nomex flight suit if you use coveralls. They are fire retardant and jute is VERY flamable. I like the two piece because if I get hot I can take off the jacket. Make sense?

  • yeah it does thank you! i just asked that cause my dad told me to use coveralls. i personally like the 2 piece to! also where could i purchase the netting?

  • I am currently trying to make my own suit. I am using jute twine instead of burlap. How much twine would you reccommend? One source said about 8000 ft., but I wanted a second opinion. Also, I am having trouble deciding on a base layer for my suit. It is a woodland suit, but there are no stores in my area that sell military surplus clothing or camo jackets etc. Any suggestions for a base layer of clothing?

  • WalMart will sell suitable clothing for your suit

  • I am currently beginning my own suit. I am using jute twine instead of burlap. How much jute twine would you think is enough to make a hat, jacket, and pants? One video said about 8000 ft., but I wanted the opinion of a second source. Also, what type of clothing would be best for making a suit? There are no stores around me that carry surplus military clothing so I am at a loss for the base of the suit.

  • i have a ghillie suit i use for airsoft, and i was just wondering what plants u would recomend from my backyard to put on to it without the plants just falling off whenever i atach it to my suit.

  • Andy, I can't say which plants to use. It needs to be the same as the area you are playing in. If you add something that is out of context you will give your position away. Just weave the plants into the suit. If they fall out eventually it's ok.

  • you can buy a net at Dick Sporting Goods, you can buy a volly ball net.its cheap, not to expensive.if you buy ant net make shure it is black or a dark net.the holes on the net can be bigger than the ones shown in this vidio.up to 3 in wide.

  • I have a question, i just bought burlap from Michaels, and all the other necessary supplies, but where can i find the netting necessary for the outside of teh suit, and how much would it cost?

  • The netting runs about 6.00 - 8.00 or so. Find a HobbyLobby or even WalMart. Check around the craft area for "Decorative netting" or "Fish Net"

  • like do yuo need things from outside

  • Thank you. Yes, you will want to add local foliage to the suit. Make sure you use natural plants from the area you will be hiding in. Don't use corn stalks in the woods or pine needles in a Hay field. Got it?

  • like do you need tihgs from outside to blend in like in metal gear solid 4 the suit blend ins with its envoirment

  • but like do you need like really long plant

  • I don't understand your question.

  • Thats a good idea. I have even gone as far as cutting out a rectangle on the shirt approx. 8x12 and sewed the netting in a whipstitch around the perimeter for that very purpose. Thanks for your comment.

  • I'd probably slit some lines in it so it breathes a little better y'now? Very generous of you to share information like this. You may have saved 18, 776 lives plus 1!

  • If you have a comment about my video, please try to keep it constructive without the cussing. Everyone is going throug tough times right now and it's just going to get worse for awhile.

    Thank you all.

  • I'd like to take a moment to appologize to some individuals. I do not recall his login name but he came on here with waht I considered bad manners. I made fun of his spelling and character then deleted his posts and my responses, and I'd like to say Im sorry. You are right, we all need to be a little more tollerent of people. When someone questions what you do the first reaction is to attack. I hope you will forgive me.

  • Im making mine out of a flightsuit so i can crawl in it but im having trouble getting the netting to stay on and finding pre dyed burlap. I am also wondering if i should only put burlap on the back and leave the front clear

  • The great thing about making your own suit is the ability to change your mind if you want to. Dye your own jute. It's easy and you can match the colors around your area with ease. If you are going to crawl in it leave the front without jute but apply some canvas or leather to it for durability. Use rubber cement or shoo-goo

  • Hi.

you can seach a video called "the Art of camoflage" there can you see how he makes such a suit ...good luck!

PS: glue the net on where the knots is.

    -TrcDK

  • would 9 metres of 2 inch strips of burlap be enough for the jacket part.

  • where can u get jute

  • you can get free burlap at feed stores

  • u mean food stores

  • when you make the top half of the ghillie suit, did you cover the front? I watched a guy make one, but he said you dont need it when you lay down. whats your input?

  • I do some modest covering of the front for hunters. If you squat down alot it helps to break up the outline. If you are going to spend most of the time on your belly then you will pull off the jute when you crawl.

  • what school are you going to i wish i could make a ghillie suit for school that would be the only thing id have an A in lol

  • where did you get the netting???

  • I get the netting at Hobby Lobby

  • You CAN, however just because you can do something does not mean you should. If you like making these suits then by all means use hot glue. You will have to redo it after one good game of paintball. Use Shoegoo or something similar instead. You could just make a "NET" suit. By that I mean cut the netting in a one piece outfit and use zipties to attach it to your body.

  • this is an ok guide im gona try it out next time i go to walmart or something get me some net btw what netting is that?

  • where can you get jute i dont want to have to shred all my burlap because it is too time consuming.

  • WalMart carries it in the craft section. HobbyLobby or Ben Franklin stores around here carry it.

  • i really liked the video, other people just had instructions in word format but yours explained it better

would i be able to use burlap and then tear it apart and use the individual threads and about how long should these thread be? also what are some good substitutes for shoe goo? could gorrilla glue work better? and how would i do this to cover a gun, would i use a cloth base and a net on that or just the net? you don't have to answer everything, but it would be helpful... thanks

  • Thanks.

I use burlap as well for texture(resembles leafs) You can tear out burlap however it's a tedious process but no problem. I strip it out first from a 2ft x 2ft piece then tie it on. Use shoe goo or ask at a homebuilding center for a comparable product.

As far as your gun goes, tie to the netting then wrap the netting around your gun. Keep it away from the muzzle blast area and ejection port if you have one.

    Hope this helps.

  • what is that netting from??

  • The netting can be purchased from Hobby Lobby or other hobby store. It's usually in a package by itself by the seashells or stuff like that.

  • Im i the process of making one im choseing to do the gun pants hat and legs and i have a butt load of twine and alot of time after school so this will be a good project i should be finishe by sunday night thanks for the tips peace.

  • I have always considered getting hold of a ghillie suit, mainly because they look cool, but also, I need a project to occupy myself with. so how long, on average, do you reckon it'll take someone who isn't too skilled with a needle and thread to make the full thing? (jacket, hood and pants)

  • My very first one took more than 70 hrs. But it was perfection!LOL. Start to finish about 30 hours

  • That doesn't seem too bad. plenty to keep me occupied during the next school holidays at christmas.

thought i doubt something to camoflague you in woodland/grassy terrain is going to be much use in winter when most green areas are dead... but hey...

    thanks man :)

  • I tend to look at Ghillie Suits as an adjustable object. By that I meam, make your suit to blend with the most common patter - Fall. Any time of year you can find varying degrees of dead colors. Then when you need it, add a little green here or there. When you don't want the green, cut it off. This is why you add natural foliage to your suit when in a particular area.

  • do u think that a soccer goal net would work? id die it darker and i was gonna use flaps of Burlap apr. 2-3 inches thick and like 6 or so in. long like leaves. do u think this would work? (sry if questions like this have been asked b4)

  • nother way to put on the net use shoe glue. shoe glue can be a lot stronger then

sewing and it a lot faster to. SHOE GLUE

  • I have used Shoegoo for a couple of suits however we found that several areas pulled away after a few weeks in the Panama jungle. We then started sewing first then going over it with the Goo for reinforcement when people wanted it glued.

Thanks for your comment though. It is definatley an alternative for a once in a while suit.

  • yeah well thank you. good video 5/5

  • Do you take orders for ghillie suits??

  • you mean shoe "goo "

  • nettings a little small, but thats just me.

  • Actually I prefer the smaller netting as it allows a better area for securing the net as well as allowing sections to be cut out for pocket access without limiting tie points. It also tends to be stronger than vollyball netting which is commonly used in inferior suits. If push comes to shove and you needed to, you could strip the smaller netting and use it as a fish net or on a springpole to catch small game in a survival situation. If its not used in combat though, no foul

  • where do you get your jute from?

  • go to farm and fleet tractor supply any hardware store ect.

  • I buy mine from HobbyLobby, WalMart, or other various small stores like Ben Franklins. Just look for it by the rolls. You can also purchase burlap hunting blinds which you can then cut into strips and tie on the netting.

  • i like the Spenders great idea

  • hey man this is great i have been looking for a good video like this. me and my friend have a bet going on and i need to make a ghille suite i would be using it for paintball anywho what i need to know is

where do i get all the stuff u used in ur vid and how much i need and i need to now where i can get camo stuff thx for the help

  • The complete video is available on ebay. Search for user name: survivalresourcesolutions. I buy my stuff at Hobbylobby now. I can get everything I need there except the camo shirt and pants which I buy from an army surplus store or sporting goods store.

  • great video. i wish i had seen this before i bought one. you should make some more videos like you using the ghillie and stuff.

  • could you please tell me what kind of netting that is and maby and idea of where i could buy so me, my summer project is a ghillie suit for airsoft but i want it to be good and last so any help would be much apreciated

  • todd , I buy the netting at Hobbylobby. It is a fishnet and each square is 3/4" If you wat complete info on how to build this I have a DVD for sale on ebay. Look under "Ghillie suit construction DVD"

  • thanks verry usefull info

  • volleyball net. it works just fine and its really easy to aquire

  • I use 7 1/2 pounds for a ghillie suit. At least thats pretty typical for mine. Sometimes more but rarely less.

  • how much jute should i use for mine, i bought 2000 ft and it doesnt look like enought, wat do u think?
