I suggest a new law. Keep all bicycles in a specialized bike lane on the right side in all cities since they can't even reach the speed limit, therefore keeping everyone safe.

I'm glad critical mass exists. I wished they did obey red lights. When car drivers abuse you when you are on a bike on your own, you get really pissed off. Though I have run into rude and even dangerous motorists I have never had one try to prevent me from getting to my destination. In Texas you run into the back of someone else and it is your fault.
This "Brake check" thing does not cut it, all the driver has to say is that a " " ran across the road and I stopped, try and prove otherwise.
The same is true of any vehicle, maintain a safe following distance.

In short, people like you make me loose my very faith in humanity. Plus, critical mass does massive damage to cyclist credibility. There is not one single way it promotes the use of bikes compared to the multitude of ways it makes people never want to ride one again. It simply ruins the image of "the cyclist". And when it's a bit extra smoggy from those people out riding, blocking traffic, I'm choking on the air trying to actually go somewhere. Because I'm an asthmatic. Thanks.

Though I have run into rude and even dangerous motorists I have never had one try to prevent me from getting to my destination. Critical mass is just asking for trouble and really not doing anything to improve bike safety or laws. I wish they would stop.

But yes they ride and I am glad they do I just wish they would do it in a legal way and in a way that does not give cycling a bad image or give drivers a reason to hate cyclists. Is the idea of having a ride to show easy alternative ways of transportation a good one? Yes. Davis CA is almost a cycle only town and it works great in Davis but it doesn't work great everywhere and irritating drivers, like the one who barged through, will not sway them to support your side.

I cycle all the time.. and respect the laws. Many drivers do too. There are exceptions on both sides..... PLENTY OF THEM. The concept of not stopping for red lights is just plain wrong.
