I really like this guy. Good job brother. One thing, we dont know exactly how the first life form got here, it might not have been an accident. I agree with you that it probably was though. One day we will replicate the process, and abiogenesis will be more solidly confirmed.
You can't confirm that if *you* did it. If you get my meaning. No matter what there are mechanisms that bring human beings into existence, Looking at us, what we are and what we do speaks directly to that system, look at us, don't divorce us from what we came from, that's an impossible irrational divorce.
I really dont follow what your saying. I know where humans came from. Im talking about the very first life form that every living thing on the planet descended from. A some point something that wasnt alive became alive. But until we replicate the process in a lab we wont be able to say exactly how.
I know you don' follow. S'allright. I just get frustrated sometimes when people refuse to attribute the qualities of what came about to what it came from. I know a lot of people don't want to think about that because it's *personal* and we are *personal* beings. To suggest there is no personal quality to the universe is irrational. But it's a big discussion, sometimes I just answer these comments off hand. Cheers.
Although I strongly disagree with your premise, its nice to hear from a rational and well spoken person on the other side. It seems that the crowd this guy attracts is smarter than most. I actually used to be a JW....I left because of the whole evolution denial thing....and a lot of other reasons that would be innapropriate to just start reeling off at you. Peace and love sister.
Isn't your objection to the dog-eat-dog nature of the Universe, part of nature itself? You, yourself are a force of nature and you are inescapably part of it. If you are disconcerted with the savagery that is at the core of Earthly life, then nature itself acknowledges its own savagery and despises it. Your rebellion against nature, is in and of itself, natural! (And also represents a potential for positive change.)
Very nice, my take on this: The individual rebels, but humans are selfish and hypocritical, some of us may despise what we are, but that won't change what we are.
I think people need a new culture, a new worldview, before they will be willing to clean up the mess our current worldview (nature = stupid machine) has created.
Mat, it is a glorification of life, and a contrivance of purpose, that is responsible for the mess... if people were acknowledging the stupidity--inefficiency of dog eating dog-- they wouldn't be so aggressively creating the fundamental problem of overpopulation. If people saw nature as a machine they would gain a respectable fear for its capacity run amok... you spiritualists attempt to disguise the true nature of nature... it is not a mother, it is a molester.
Glorification of HUMAN life and purpose has caused the mess. All our religions up to this point (with the possible exception of Buddhism and Taoism) have been anti-nature and encouraged exploitation of the earth. I don't think efficiency is the point: our industry is already extremely efficient at sucking energy from the planet. The real challenge is coming up with a purpose for our civilization that doesn't include perpetual growth. Marveling at the universe is a perfect way to keep us busy.
How can nature be a molester if any creatures that suffer couldn't exist without it? That's as illogical as the creationists that say we should be grateful that god has blessed us with the conditions necessary for our existence, as if there could be such a thing as a being that is being denied the property of existence.

In my view when you rant about nature you're being crypto-religious.
Because you say consumption and reproduction is not enough, you seem to miss purpose.

"innate, knowing force" ? So, is it knowing before it becomes life? - sounds like it, if it's innate. (just trying to understand your position)
