Paid around 300 euro when I bought it, should go around way cheaper now, if still sold new.
The S5 is not being produced anymore though, as Canon has released new modelsin this pricerange, which can also record 720p vids. Rumors go the lenses are not as good as the S5 had, but I cannot confirm that (not tested).
I like my Canon S3 for the same reasons; the S5 has features, additions that make it a better choice, but the S3 and S5 share the same sound quality, which I think is GREAT.
I had initially bought the camera for stills, but with vid capability, and vid what capability it has!
This camera (which has been discontinued) takes absolutely FANTASTIC VIDEO IN STEREO --even in low light when it will no longer take a decent PHOTO on Auto! It performs better than most video cameras in the $300-$400 price range! (There are some videos on my channel that I took with the Canon S5.)
I am less impressed with the photo quality... The successor to the S5 is the SX10 IS...sadly, Canon messed up that wonderful video quality!
Canon came out with the SX10 IS which is the successor to the S5 IS. I guess they want to sell more cameras. There are very few places where you can still get the S5 (like eBay and Amazon). Circuit City had moved it into its outlet at the end of summer already. I'm keeping mine for the video quality, but went for the new Panasonic DMC-FZ28 (18x zoom)for its FANTASTIC photo quality!
That applies to availability in the United States -- you may have more luck where you live...LOVE the nature photos on your myspace page -- what camera did you use for those? :)
That's an amazing camera. Video images seem to show smooth frames, and the zoom moves smoothly, rather than jerkily, as well. I like how you demonstrated how fast the zoom goes back and forth.
Lens cap is getting of quite easily, but this was made because of not to damage to lens when it's getting out of the camera.
If the lens cap is too stiff attached to the camera the motor of the lens is getting damaged. I didn't experience it as a big turndown as I attached the lenscap to the "necklace" (or what's the name of the thing you attach to your camera and your neck :P).
Sound quality is outstanding, video quality is awesome, especially for a superzoom photocamera imho :)
I took it with me to parties and shot some movies there. If you set it to the lowest recording volume you can get very good audio quality, but like any other digicam which is able to record movies it cannot handle the bass from the speakers properly. Not a big thing to fall over though :)
nice video. imma try to record mw2 gameplay with dis camera

By this way I won't loose the lenscap.

Just have a good look on the online webshops as the price of the S5 is dropping quite hard at the moment.
For instance here in the Netherlands there are shops selling it for 276 euro.
