I wish we were friends! I 100% agree and feel the same exact way. I am a black female who is very much femme.
I am also new to the community since coming to terms with being a lesbian and I have no lesbian friends. I have gay guy friends but as anyone will tell you it's not the same.
I just wish I had a strong lesbian support team behind me so I don't feel so alone like I do.
OMG, I so feel you. I'm black and femme and just coming out. I feel invisible just because I'm not giving into the stereotype. I also feel very out of place in my mostly white queer community. And I'm just not sure what to do.
Hey girl, I understand this completely. I've gone in and out of this problem myself... when I was younger I tried to "look" like a lesbian and since I've grown out of that idea I've lost several friends because I'm not "butch enough" ....it's funny when the same people who don't want to be judged themselves continue to judge others based on something so ridiculous. I say, just be yourself.
It is so nice to know that there is somebody else out there like me. I am also a hispanic femme lesbian, and almost everybody I come across thinks I am straight and then doesn't believe me when I tell them I am a lesbian. I'm ranting now, so I'll just end this by saying thanks for making this video.
:D I LOVE YOU!!! I a girl who wears dresses, cooks, dances, plays the flute, and likes gardening. I also wear boy clothes on occasion, cut my hair above my ears, then grow it past my shoulders. I like video games, I play sports, and I don't mind bugs, snakes, mice, or dirt. I dunno what I am, and your words give me confidence that I'm not just a weirdo. ^_^ You speak very well, and you sound like a very inteligent woman. :D
The mainstream lesbian community can sometimes be shockingly elitist, it seems that centuries of oppression did little to open people's eyes to tolerance. I respect you for making an honest vid. It's ridiculous how people judge from afar and accuse stonefemmes of wanting men and stonebutches of wanting to be men. It's simply a narrow minded outsiders view of two identities they know absolutely nothing about, people questioning the validity and truth of something that isn't exactly like them.
Yeah, speak up, stay out and build bridges! So we should, especially in our sapphic community. For all lesbians and not an elite that feel that its their right to define who is lesbian and who, not. We owe it to ourselves to be as visible as we are... Thank you!
im CHICANA(latina)TOO !!! and i know what you mean i look straight and i am fem and it really sucks because i have straight guys hitting on me all the time i like fem girls and im fem myself so it's pretty hard for me to find fems like me, because we fems dont fit the stereotypical lesbian
OMG ME TOO!!! i'm fem and like fem girls very much but it's so hard to find them or for them to find me because...well...i just look and act like a "regular girl" LOL. and the internet doesn't help either -___- i feel there is no hope to find a lover :(!
Thank you for your wonderful perspective. I am currently struggling with my identity in the community as I identify as queer yet, I look straight, and I don't appear butch, femme or anything remotely queer. I have been dealing with my feelings of "being invisible". That gave me great support to know that I am not the only one.
Hi there Sister Femme! I made a video for you (and our other Femme Sisters.) I hope you check it out - I sent it as a video response or you can just click on my name here. It's called "Accusation Alpha Femme" and is VERY femme positive!
I loved what you said about staying and making your place. And I also wish more people would have the courage to be willing to really see each other instead of just not looking at whatever might scare them about each other's differences. Why be "color blind" when you can grow up and enjoy being "color celebratory" instead, for example? Why do we all have to be exactly alike in order to be acceptable?
interesting
