I heard the new recording of this first. It's shocking to hear it so upbeat in contrast! I love this version, but I find the slower, more melancholy version just painfully beautiful.
I know they made a revival of this on Broadway...but this version is still the best with Victor Garber as Jesus..and Check out Lynn Thigpen! Love this movie and music!
My favorite song from the movie! Uplifting with beautiful harmonies. Don't know how they managed to get sections of New York to shut down for some of the scenes!
In the new Broadway revival, this is done as a mournful solo ballad by Jesus (Hunter Parrish). Lovely and sad. I really love this sweet version from the movie. Great scene.
tarbandu - thanks for posting! This was released as a Promo 45 single after just before "Day By Day". I have BC playing on my radio station, so come listen!
Well this song was not apart of the original musical/script. IT was added once they decided to do the movie...and is very good song.!Chessy for todays standards, but but an uplifting song overall.
I'm gonna be in a Godspell performance, but this song is placed in between Light of the World and Finale. It's also more sad and slow. The lyrics are also a little different.
@CaletheMrActor i was part of a Godspell performance here in arizona, and this song is actually sung twice. once at this tempo and feeling towards the middle, and again at that point you're talking about as a reprise. maybe your director decided to opt out from the first?
This is so great. It is so kinetic. The background always seems to be in motion (like the Jetson's opening). Just fun. The cast is singing wholeheartedly. They sincerely look like they are enjoying themselves so much - - and that is quite contagious.

This song sounds like something from the Partridge Family. I like it though.
