I like how they use a photo of the guys in the car from the advert with the blonde guy in the photo getting handed a can of beer shaken up to spoil his chances with a lassie. A sort of "You saw them hit, here's one that lived"
The advert that precedes this (the reveal with the crash) as part of 'Can't Trust Your Mates' campaign is still available on the Land Transport New Zealand website - under Advertising > Drink Driving.
Is that definitely part of the same campaign? You can see them on canttrustmates dot co dot nz (can't link as youtube wont let you put URLs in comments) and this one is definitely not on there. Although the slogan matches, and it's the same theme... perhaps you're right :)
but to me, it didn't work. you kinda expect each year for them to top their most hard hitting ads and they bring this out. though the "you can't trust your mates" ads that were the prequel to this one were very smart, everyone speculated for ages what they were about and it took forever for the actual crash one to be revealed.
I think their reasoning, like TAC found out in Australia and the government over here in the UK found out, is that when you use shock tactics year in, year out, eventually they lose their impact. This one made you think rather than going YAAAAH BLOOD :-) PS: I specifically didn't upload Can't Trust Your Mates because the website that accompanies the campaign is still up. Shame you cant post URLs in youtube comments...
Don't suppose you have the Danny series? That was quite epic. Everyone talked about that for ages after it was revealed what it was about. I dunno, I think us New Zealanders still expect and want them to top ads of years before and when we get the moody ones (like the school one) we're disappointed.
Was that the Danny and Tess series? If so, I've been trying to find those for ages. Seemed to take a year before they finally revealed what the ad was about, which had a great impact because the audience fell inlove with the story created. The slogan was 'Country people die on country roads'.
This guy's autistic.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
"I have a 0% chance of ever moving again" ... watch "the secret" there is no such thing as can't.

Um, yes, there is. Some people will not be moving no matter how much they wish they could. Hope is good, but sometimes you have to be realistic.

If modern medicine can't cure paralysis, then certainly a WISHING BOARD can! And if that doesn't work, then you're a failure!

Definitely the same. The person with long hair in the photo here is the person with the beer in that campaign.
