I find it offensive that the poster calls this "bizarre." I got news. In China, the elderly don't sit in homes rotting away. They meet in the park, every day, by the hundreds. They sing. They dance. They paint on the sidewalk with giant brushes and water. They have bands. They play Mahjong.
