  • I LOVE NAPOLEON!

  • Great video! I didn't much about the French Revolution until I saw this, Thanks!

  • ty for uploading... it helped a lot in my french project! :)

  • Wait a minute. The French were sick of the monarch and revolted so that they can have a constitution and be a republic right? Then why did Napoleon crown himself EMPEROR? I mean France's constitution should be republic.

  • Nice Job nd may I please know how did u make this vid using which software? Windows Movie Maker?

  • kind of reminds me of how is america now

  • Awesome! :)

  • everythings better with Coldplay.

  • A decade before I heard a news Napoleon was poisoned by British with slow poison arsenic compounds

  • France raised her self from the shackles of bondage when the King's head was sacrificed on the altar of liberty. Those who stormed the Bastille were heirs to Harmodius and Aristogeiton. The spirit of ancient Athens still breathes in the people of the West and tyrants shake when they hear their cry.

    Liberté! égalité! fraternité!

  • @ImaginedWriter Don't forget:

Terror! Far more repressive governments than under Louis XVI! Devastating war from Portugal and Spain to Moscow and from Italy to the Baltic! The loss of 500 million men in an ill-advised invasion of Russia!

  • thanks for clarfying it my history teacher makes it so confusing :3

  • I love you video <3

  • 0:16, seas would rise when i gave the word! great words suits napolean style

  • This is terrific workmanship! Whenever i heard this song on the radio, i allways thought of napolean and the french grand army! It was frances prime time, they were elite and unstoppable until they meet the russian winter.Even hitler was terrified of making the same mistake napolean did. Great video :)

  • napoleon is like Hammond from top gear

  • neat vid. love that song, actually the line in the song "sweep the streets I used to own" was said in 1929 america after the crash. but it works with this..also N. was petite by any standard but what a leader, he slept near his men like great leaders was right there with the team...oh and here is some trivia Tom Paine the rabble rouser of the american r was scene in france at the begin of f rev. wow.

  • i'm watching this only because i have a test of history

  • @MrSamT90 me too

  • napoleon was a smart dude!! yea he was immature and selfish but i like the way he thinks!! he had a bright mind, but he only wanted to win so thats kinda sad!!

  • This might've been the most entertaining history video, Good job.

  • heres to you guys...celebrating 100,000 views :)

  • Really nice video! So useful !!!!

  • WHAT AN AWESOME WAY TO TEACH HISTORY - GOOD EDIT - GOOD MUSIC FOR NAPOLEON - KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !!!

    I SUBSCRIBED.....

  • thanks everyone for your comments, I'll see about remaking this to try to clean up the misspelled words here and there... I hope in some way it has increased your passion for History and those that came before us!

  • Napoleon was a complete twat

  • @1stLordTheAdmiralty1 this really made me laugh lol.....especially since the message read right next to a respectable royal portrait of Lord Nelson. thanks for watching though :)

  • @alexgomez83 No worries ,Nothing like a bit of friendly banter. But i'm right though lol :)

  • @1stLordTheAdmiralty1 Napoleon was Bad Ass. you're the twat. his name echoes in eternity while u will b worm food.

  • i have a DBQ on the French Revolution tomorrow this was an excellent review video nice job!

  • 2:27 - dont you mean '' And as cesear bow before him?

  • saw this video at school and it totally blew my mind away the song was a perfect choice for this video it just goes with the song!! love it, nice work dude

  • This is the best french revolution movie ive ever sciene make more!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I watched this exact video in school. Amazing song choice. Loved the song, and the video was just epic. Enough said.

  • YOU FORGOT ABOUT ELBA, THAT IS CRITICAL!

  • @kodylima yeah the first exile to elba along with the return and defeat at waterloo is all wrapped up in "defeats persist"...only four minutes to the song....sorry :)

  • @alexgomez83 you did a damn good job

  • My Teacher used it in Skool! She is awsome. (she raps historical events 2) LOV U MS. DOYLE!!!

  • There is a small error because France became the major European power in the mid 17 th century, not in the 18 th.

  • @jeffkodiac I went with 18th century to emphasize the importance of France's role in the War of Spanish Succession, which can arguably be seen as a victory for France since they were able to implant a bourbon on the Spanish throne.

  • Thought you may be pleased to know that we use this video in school :)

  • great video. those French really dressed like fags in those days, especially Louie the 14th.

  • @arnold84500 I actually think it's quite beautiful how they dressed. I wish such traditions would be revived someday in the future.

  • @tabibitosama yes they were very fashionable and colorful and also extremely GAY. i don't think that is coming back.

  • @arnold84500 west europe fashion .... not only french

  • @julien314 ok, well then the west europeans is fags too. or nancy boys if you prefer.

  • thank very much if it wasn't for this video i could've failed my test on the revolution. my teacher didn't teachme anything

  • I highly respect France for the revolutoin. It is something we Americans need to do to get OUR country back from the people who are spending us into oblivion. I think we should have done it a long time ago. Say what you will about France they do NOT take crap from their government or they will riot and MAKE their voice heard! A great country in my opinion. We need to learn from them and make our govenment work for us.

  • @hotdog2020 They don't even have to riot they have national strikes the whole country comes to a stand still

  • In Soviet Russia, Russia defeats You!!!

  • ***new sailor moon video set to the music of Virtual Diva by Don Omar. Find in my videos..i know i know, its not history...but i guess it's my history, being that I used to love the show growing up. :)

  • @julesrules90000 the Egyptian campaigns were but he abdicated while he was emperor, otherwise he would have nothing to abdicate from.....

  • great! A+

  • I like the video, fits good with the lyrics, but there are some mistakes: you can't conquer an army and Napoleon didn't loose because of the russians burning Moskva but because they used the tactic of "Verbrannte Erde" scorched earth, so that the french army couldn't get supplies to the front or take them from russian soil, one important factor was also general Bagration and from the fact that Napoleon wasn't really defeated in Russia you see him coming back later, fighting in the Völkerschlacht

  • @eethomasf32 its "lose" not "Loose" and yes he did lose. You can conquer an army, read a definition of conquer in a dictionary.

  • you missed out where after he lost in Russia he abdicated to the island of Elba for like a year and then goes back to France and Napoleon's Egyptian campaigns that stopped the British making money and preventing their Navy to grow any more powerful, but i really like the pictures and the song goes beutifully.

  • seems a little harsh pinning everything on Louis XVI when the country was in massive debt and had come out of the wars with Austria he was fucked to begin with.

  • @MTCoblivsicas12345 They funded the American war of independence and then entered the war them themselfs.Soon after helping American win the war (well history shows they really won it for them) they went bust and ended up with a revolution themselfs

  • just saw this in history class today. GREAT VIDEO!!!!!

  • The story of French republican traitors and a little tyrant bastard

  • My history teacher showed this to me.

  • my history sir showed us this video

    its super good

this song always lifts my mood

  • A truly great video.

  • I wonder if Georges Lucas was inspired by this (Hi)story for his second Star Wars trilogy...

  • Great job with video. Wish my teacher would use more youtube vids that had music in them. Again great job.

  • OMG awesome video

  • Thanks for posting this on here I have to do a project on Marie and King Louis XVI and the french revolution was in there so thanks!

  • french people are stupid only one where people actually blame everything on king and not themselves. bunch of fking bauttgety stupid fks

  • @bubzbeautychannel2 You know, it's even worse with the Russians. When you see French or Russian palaces, you understand why some people wanted fight the absolute monarchy. Yes, don't forget monarchies and absolute monarchies are two different things.

  • @xenotypos

you don't even know the whole thing about Russian revolution

    read history book first

  • The French monarchy started with Clovis in the late 5th century

  • This is a terrible video- not only does it ridicule this period of history with stupid music, it completely overlooks the terror of the French Revolution and the drastic changes it had implemented. Only classical music is worthy of Enlightenment videos.

  • @atheniandp To include Robespierre, the Committee of Public Safety and the Reign of Terror would take much longer than 4 minutes.

Realistically, most Youtubers are young and most young people aren't interested with the French Revolution. It has been proven numerous times that when teachers combine music into their teachings, their students in return show greater interests in learning but only when the music is related to the subject.

I feel that this music goes well with Napolean.

  • @JRV95 And look at all of the history teachers who have come to this video with tales of interest from their students after watching this video!

Kudos alexgomez83! Great video and great idea!

  • nice video can you tell what is the song called i like the music very much so tell me please,,thanks

  • lol

  • vive la france

  • Viva for the Arab Revolution in Tunisia and Egypt .. and now in Iraq, Yemen, Bahrain and Libya

movies to my students. they liked it.

    thanks

  • The French have a lot of courage n guts... they are the best protesters too - they also don't get pushed around by usa or uk.

  • Hahaha my history teacher Mr. D showed this to out class :)

  • sorry dude accidently pressed disliked button, i actually really liked it.

  • my world history teacher showed us this vid =D

  • @lilmike55535 ours too lol

  • @lilmike55535 mine 2 i loved it in class and i still like it now except i saw a better version and i cant find it

  • Camilles Desmoulins

  • @alexgomez83

i must say when you hear the song with the music your soul is on fire for the people that deserved the hard work , but then again when you look at it in another way you get a chill and a sad feeling for the ones that got killed mixed feelings is what you get . i must say you really do know how to touch peoples hearts

  • Head over to Wikipedia and fix the Louix XVI entry. It has been taken over by royalists.

  • excellent

  • the song goes perfect with this time in history.....good job!

  • Excellent video. I'm a history teacher and my students really like this. Like you, I get chills when history is interpreted with modern methods such as Coldplay's music. It shows how people don't change- only times and technologies do. Pay no attention to the sad little critcs on here; they don't get it. Thank you for posting.

  • @Bluestone524 do you happen to teach at eastlake and have a last name that starts with an m?

  • Dude, this was awesome!

  • i hate this section

  • Able was I, ere, I saw elbA

  • after elva, he returns to take control of france for 100 days, u forgot that !

  • thanx man your big help XD

  • Thankyou, very helpful with my History exam! :)

  • vive l'empereur!

  • Great vid! I have to study for a French Revolution test and you just helped me check off "Study for French Rev. Quiz" on my homework list! X3

  • @alexgomez83 hey is this song about the french revolution and Louis XVI? I'm supposed to interpret the lyrics for a history assignment, but Im totally lost!

  • I guess it was the intention, though the painting that is usually attributed to the song is of the 1830 revolution instead. I focused on Louis and Napoleon, but the song really lends itself to all historical figures who at one point rose to magnificient heights, only to fall rather quickly, ending up alone. This song could be about anyone really. I'd print out the lyrics and just read through them focusing on each point being made and what they mean. Then connect it to your historical figure.

  • @alexgomez83 yea, i think your right. but this song does go with louis' story. how he came to power and fell basically and when he tried to flee with his wife they were caught and his head was cut off and that goes with revolutionaries wait for my head on a silver plate...thanks for your help. I agree this song can go with any historical figure that rose to power.

  • you forgot to say how the children died and how they hated king lou wife

  • I liked this video. I am supposed to create a lesson about the French Revolution and I think this video was the perfect length for an introduction to the subject matter. If people are harassing you because of minor details, then they are being jerks. History isn't about facts, it's about life. It's because we concentrate so much on fact, that students find the subject of history to be boring...this was not meant to be a rant.

  • Congratulations France there was a time in history were u wernt a bunch of pussies. well of course it didnt last long.

  • @alphalion3 Fat guy.

    Bonne nuit bouffon.

  • @AttackTheGasStation1 Actually im not fat i weigh 170 and can bench above 200

  • @alphalion3 Nice !!!!!!!

  • @alphalion3

If it wasn"t for the French you wouldn't even have a country

  • @alphalion3

While the White house was being burnt by the Canadians, France was occupying europe from spain to russia

  • @gipcambero Canada never burnt down the white house, the white house burning happened in 1812, Canada wasn't even a country tell 1867.

  • @gipcambero It was the British that burned the White House. Also the French are great, they helped America get free from the British and Napolean could have controled all of Europe if it was not for Russia.

  • @Noiro10 General Winters protected Russia twice... from Napoleon... and from the Third Reich

  • @alphalion3

Except The 1942-1945 period, u were a bunch of pussies too.

We have Joan of arc, napoleon, who are your world class military leaders ??

  • @gipcambero Joan of Arc and Napoleon where great but the US has great leaders to like washington, Madison, etc, and even Canada had Borden, the point is alot of courtys has something tobe proud of.

  • @happycan107

Washington and Madison are not what I call World class miltary heroes... sorry

  • @alphalion3 The French only became "pussies" after WWII, when a victim complex had set in after having their nation occupied by the Nazis.

  • @SereneSatellites thats what i fucking said

  • Saw it on Friday in Global Studies :D

  • @alexgomez83, it is a good video, but you could have put more details in it to make this more interesting. If you look at my channel, you will see six videos about Napoleon's marshals. I have 20 more marshals to make videos about.

  • I like how you put this video together, I like the quality, and I like the song. ;)

  • This video is soooooooo good! Some people are just trying to bring others down. Focus on the positives people. Keep making videos alexgomez83!!!!!!!

  • @alexgomez83 This is great.Love it my teacher today in history even showed us this because he thought it was so good...You did good with it and the painting you chose fit perfectly and for the errors well thats not what its about and i didn't even noticed until they were pointed out because the overall video was amazing.

  • Some (constructive) criticisms -

    1. There are typographical errors all over the place.

    2. Midway through the video, the font is changed. Why?

    3. You zoom much too far in on some of the .jpg's. If you can't find high enough resolutions of these images, don't use them.

  • 4. You mention some of the details of what happened, but skip through many and don't explain WHY any of it happened, or how it led to that. For example, you mention Louis XIV and France at it's greatest, but move right past Louis XV and ignore the fact that during his reign France lost much of her American territories along with his giving back Germany, to the shock of all. There is also no mention whatsoever of the American war of independance, the greatest financial drain on France.

  • Thanks for commenting. I would only say that points 2 and 3 are really just a matter of preference arent they? You do have me at points 1 and 4 and for those I do apologize. I literaly made this video on single breath of inspiration and had no idea that it would even get this many views, be shown in so many classrooms or even that it would manage to make it to u in Ireland. Please keep in mind that making your "own" videos is a tad more difficult than simply uploading scenes you did not create

  • spelling mistakes notwithstanding, thanks for the video, helped give me good basic idea for my studies.

  • this helped me with my history essay.. thanks!

  • Great! Beautiful paintings! We need a revolution in the UK!!

  • Russian always burn their cities to the ground XD

  • genius, love it

  • I dont know whats wrong with some of these people.... This video was good! The music was perfect for it.... Just listen to the lyrics! And He got the most important stuff in there, we dont need to nitty gritty details for a 4 minute video. Its a good overall summery on the French Revolution. Nice job!!

  • @Nelnelsvids hum, sorry but no the video isn't good. Too much summarize and what it's said become wrong

-people didn't rebel because of the economic depression but because of the king behavior during the French States-General.

-the raid against the Bastille wasn't as important as it seems now, moreover it was symbolic above all.

  • -Louis XVI didn't abdicated! First he stayed king until the 10 August 1792, then this is the assembly who made the deposition of Louis XVI. And what about the Royal flight up to Varennes, the Champ de Mars Massacre, the Great Fear etc...?

    etc, etc...

No seriously, it is too much shorted

  • @Aureasaetas There was more than one reason the French Revolution started. The economic depression is one of the reasons.... This video is right, it just doesnt have every reason. And if the raid against the Bastille wasnt as important as it is now, why does it make it wrong to have it in the video? Its not like this video was made for People in the French Revolution.... Its for us and so if you say it is important now, what is the problem with having it in the video?

  • @Nelnelsvids Sure there are so many reason, I made an essay on that. X)

But I don't criticize the intention, the problem is the video summarizes too much. That's why it gives a false impression on the events course.

"This video is right, it just doesnt have every reason."

Yes but I'd say that the Revolution didn't break out because of the economic depression but how the king treated it (and of course so many other things...).

  • "why does it make it wrong to have it in the video?"

I've never said that, juste why talking about it and not others events as or more important?

"Its not like this video was made for People in the French Revolution" I've made myself misunderstood ><

I'd said that now it seems to be the most important event in the Revolution, but in fact no, symbolic above all. But I've never said it was anecdotic.

  • Oh my god, the crappiest music ever for the French Revolution... Seriously guys, Coldplay? WTF?

  • im in a latin american history class and was looking for a quick little summary/backstory on what france was going through at this time, and this is perfect, thanks!

  • @gasdfw5 well, it might not have. even though the country might have been driven to the ground with taxes, it was the american war of independance which inspired the french to revolt.

  • UK was just the voice of defiance against napoleonic France, they did nothing by themselves.

  • napoleon was a great ruler and a good Dictator at land but he was not good enough at water he was defeated by british navy in 1815 at waterloo

  • @keshavv12

He was defeated by the Iberians and russians.

  • @keshavv12 ?????? are you sure that you have your history correct???????

  • Comment removed

  • napoleon was crowned emperor on december 2 1804 not January and u also forgot how napoleon was first exiled to elba for a year until he escaped came back and prepared for his last battle waterloo

  • yeah made a mistake about the date, still kicking myself about that one lol....but i intentionally moved over the exile to st. elba in the interest of time. Only 4 mins to the song... instead i tried to make up for it by saying, "defeats persist" since the first exile can be considered a defeat for him.

  • @TheHistorygenius hahaha,i was about to say the same thing about elba.if the maker of the vid would have put the exile into elba, the vid would of been much cooler.napolean escapes and he takes some of his troops back from the new king louis!

  • @TheHistorygenius is there a need to criticize him? he created an amazing video and you only point out the flaws, thats just obnoxious

  • I always wonder if the Americans lost the American Revolution would the French Revolution not happen.

  • Napoleon looks sooooooooooo COOL at 2:04

  • At the start of this video, you are missing "r" in "Charles".

  • @pekingduck123456 I dont see the error in that. The were brought back to Paris after they were caughting escaping frm Paris to Austria.

  • Where did Napoleon begin did he not kick the British out of Marsaile or something along thouse lines??

And what kingdom ruled france was it the House of Bourbon??

And did his son and brother remain king of Spain and Italy or where they removed after Napoleons deffeat???

  • Napoleon was not the succesor of Louis XVI, but of Charlemange.

  • Britain in the Napoleonic Wars was kind of like America in World War 2 - it was the most powerful nation in the alliance but it didn't do that much of the fighting in Europe, but made a decisive contribution at the end.

  • @ddpoops2929

Britain was only decisive at preventing France from invading it. Britain only decisive battle was tarfalgar which didn't end the war. 95% of the fight was done during 20 years on the continent against austria, Prussia, ottoman Empire,Spain and Russia. Then there was only 15% of British (including the Irish at Waterloo). Britain only contribution was to bribe Continental Empire to form coalition against France
