i am an amateur (and not long-time) drummer. i think i know what he does for this fill. but i wondered if someone who is sure of himself can explain in words what he is doing here. basically, he is doing a "ruff" double hit on the base between each strike of his right hand? although it looks like when he goes from the high tom to the snare, there is less time between those strikes, so mayabe he does only 1 or no bass hits between those strikes? please help!
@Inresurrection okay, like i said, i can figure out that general-of-a-thing by myself. basically i wonder if someone can listen to this and tab it for me, because i can't tab it just by listening.
Jerry was the ONLY drummer that could hold a candle to John Bonham. The only one that could even be considered to be in the same class. Thank you Jerry.
For what it's worth, Jerry did not play a double bass pedal. Also, he mostly played this fill one-handed because he could and he thought it was pretty funny. Even in death that dude still makes me laugh.
I went to high school and university w/ this guy, and he lived in my neighborhood-- used to walk past his house and he was *always* drumming. One word to describe him-- PROLIFIC......IN HIGH SCHOOL! He was amazing then, I can only imagine how good he was in the end.
Just found out today, almost a year later... sad day... the world was robbed of a great kat. So long buddy. :(
sorry to disappoint many of u but he's not that fast, tho he is gud and passionate, but he basically uses his foot as his other hand, as in he does paradiddles w/ his hand and foot or any rudiment for that matter
@EnisVoorhees im not hatin im analyzing and elaborating, im just saying ppl are amazed at how fast he cn do this and with one hand when it really is that great to do. honestly i think that kinda held him back because he knew what ppl expected to hear and continued to build up a one sided technique. sure its very cool, but after hearing it a few times, u can figure it out and then what?
rip, great drummer great fill, does anyone no how do this fill tho? and could help explain it 2 me?? i trying 2 learn it but i just cant seem to figure it out.
i just found this vid. When I thought I couldnt miss that little dude anymore. I would hate to feel how the rest of the band feel. How on earth to you replace that? I mean as a drummer, not as a person.
I am lost for words after seeing this amazing drummer and also after learnig the news of is passing.....r.i.p jerry.you will be missed and i will pay tribute everytime i will play the drums...
RIP, was gutted to hear the tragic news monday morning. I regret only hearing about him a few months ago, when Maserati opened for Mono. incredible performer, one of the best drummers ive ever seen. He will be missed.
whats ur problem dude, if your not gonna say something nice dont say anything, this guy was an amazing drummer and its an incredible loss that he has passed away
Saw both Turing Machine and Maserati at different times in my life. Didn't know the drummer's name, or that it was even the same guy in both bands, but was highly impressed by the drumming both times. I hate that I'm only being inspired to look deeper into Jerry's work by his death. What a tragedy. RIP.
yeah. I normally don't post negative comments. And I know that kimpunkrock is looking for a reaction. But seriously. Die a thousand painful deaths that take 100 years each. Die alone and uncared for. Just plan on it with that attitude.
I remember in 92 when he got his Slingerland Soprano snare, getting it as tight as he possibly could, his first Wuhan China boy - when he first started putting it vertical, he and I going to see bands nobody else in Atlanta knew about, scouring the used bins at Titan comics, blah blah blah. I followed his career after Atlanta and am proud that he did what he wanted with life and kept it real.
The reaction of people (including myself) seeing that live for the first time was priceless. The bobbing heads stopping, shaking, then looking to friends to see if they saw it too.
"Deserved???" Erica you should look in the mirror sometime. Apparently you also do not live in NYC where freight elevators get stuck all the fucking time.
i don't believe my eyes are seeing the same thing my ears are hearing. he should literally go down in the same category as john bonham and keith moon. not exaggerating. RIP
it looks crazier than it actually is. it's pretty simple from a drummers standpoint, it's using the bass drum for most of the notes that "sound insane" and then the one hand is just hitting quarter notes throughout the kit!
