While this video tries to be sarcastic, I must point out that private police would have to be actually RESPONSIVE to their customers, private water purification already exists and is flourishing (think bottles), imagine the CIA having to make a profit!, the FDA falls flat compared to private insurance procedures, private libraries exist even today, private prosecution for pollution, etc etc etc. No USPS?

I agree with almost everything on that list. The only thing I would keep is the military, because congress has the right to levy taxes for defense. Of course, it needs to be a lot smaller than it is now. if everyone owned a gun, we might not even need a military. I totally agree with you, none of that other stuff should be federally subsidized. It is good, but needs some work. First off, more basic programs should be used, and second, you should talk about how the "socialist" post office drove all the free market companies like UPS, DHL, and FedEx out of business.
Those very same "fire pussies", operating out of the very same stations, COULD be run by private companies (like many ambulance services) and simply bill their services to your homeowner's insurance. Then they wouldn't be at risk of shutting down when the city budget goes to Hell. And the realistically expressed liability risk would promote better fire prevention in the first place. I understand that you are being sarcastic, but i agree with most of the statements in the video. I think that we should do away with probably 3/4 of the things you mention. Military (including the coast guard) doesn't count because the constituton allows it. Any other things that shouldn't be done away with entirely like rural electricity, education, police and firemen, should be handled by state and local governments. The Federal government should not be involved in these affairs at all.
the only thing government needs to do is make rules so the companies play fair. they should not control anything, they should not buy anything (other than military things), and they should stay out of people's lives. ronald reagan did this. the result was the longest economic prosperity in the history of the U.S. Hell, even the post office is better run by companies like FedEx. The army, post office, and disaster relief can all be handles by the feds constitutionally. States should pick up the burden for schools and fire department. But social security and federal healthcare are 100% unconstitutional under the 10th amendment. Darn that nasty constitution!

Our Roads are in excellent shape (Ever seen the German Autoban(Highway)?) Our students graduate at an excellent rate (Yes school is free here too) and we dont have to pay crazy medical care rates.

I hate to break this to you, but its often not the case that you can "still get your operation" if your insurance company denies you. Its another example of where your information seems to be old and outdated, not keeping up with what's actually happening today.
If you have an immediate Emergency, you can go to an ER without insurance and not be denied immediate treatment. If you need surgery, even if its serious, and you don't have insurance to pay for it, surgeons CAN refuse to do it.

half of the things on here are considered defense groups, in the case of defense groups, they need to be run by a single government figure, some socialized things are good i.e. military, coast gaurd, national guard ect. but taking over private companies is not right if you ask me.
Just think of all the people that die every year while the FDA holds up potentially useful drugs from entering the market. If I was terminal and going to die and my last hope was some experimental drug, that decision should be between me and my doctor whether the risk is worth it.

I will take full responsibility for my house, which would include paying any necessary premiums on insurance, etc., which, if I had no taxes, really wouldn't hurt my budget. Australia is one of the most over taxed countries in the world. We get taxed 4 times on the dollar. and I'm ok with it. I don't have a high paying job, but I can be comfortable in the knowledge that if I do get sick or worse I have a healthcare system that will look after me.

Those very same "fire pussies", operating out of the very same stations, COULD be run by private companies (like many ambulance services) and simply bill their services to your homeowner's insurance. Then they wouldn't be at risk of shutting down when the city budget goes to Hell. And the realistically expressed liability risk would promote better fire prevention in the first place. Just because something IS socialized, doesn't mean it SHOULD be socialized.

I understand that you are being sarcastic, but i agree with most of the statements in the video. I think that we should do away with probably 3/4 of the things you mention. Military (including the coast guard) doesn't count because the constituton allows it. Any other things that shouldn't be done away with entirely like rural electricity, education, police and firemen, should be handled by state and local governments. The Federal government should not be involved in these affairs at all.

the only thing government needs to do is make rules so the companies play fair. they should not control anything, they should not buy anything (other than military things), and they should stay out of people's lives. ronald reagan did this. the result was the longest economic prosperity in the history of the U.S. Hell, even the post office is better run by companies like FedEx. The only thing that the government should run is military, cause the average american isn't going to buy a tank.

The army, post office, and disaster relief can all be handles by the feds constitutionally. States should pick up the burden for schools and fire department. But social security and federal healthcare are 100% unconstitutional under the 10th amendment. Darn that nasty constitution!

You would need a constitutional amendment (like the one for Arizona, to be voted on in 2010) which would nullify a national health care system from operating in the state.

I have certainly heard lots of unsourced complaints that this is true. I think these people may just be complaining. It sounds ominous to me to have private police forces owned by individuals. If it were not true in some cases then how could private schools possibly compete with public schools?
The idea is that if someone owns the school, they will want to protect their investment.Public schools have to pander to government bureaucracy in order to secure funding. Private schools however need to pander to the parents as their paying customers. If they do not then another school will take them away. The curriculum is no longer decided by someone that sends their kids to a private school

iron1215 , i honestly only seem to hear these complaints coming from americans (If you are one) Here in Europe we have had socialized medicine since right after WWII more or less. Our Roads are in excellent shape (Ever seen the German Autoban(Highway)?) Our students graduate at an excellent rate (Yes school is free here too) and we dont have to pay crazy medical care rates.
For that i tell you.....Socializm the greatest things to happen to Europe since Democracy.One for all and all for one!

While I agree they may not be the wisest spenders, the large percentage of individuals that don't carry medical insurance end up dumping their medical costs on to the public anyways.

interesting question....but with private insurance i don't need to trust them with my life. an insurance company will either pay for a procedure or not. that is the extent of our relationship. if they refuse, i may be unhappy, but i can still get my operation or even file a suit
if i my operation is denied by the state, i have no recourse, none. seeking and paying for treatment elsewhere, according to the house bill, will be illegal.

I hate to break this to you, but its often not the case that you can "still get your operation" if your insurance company denies you. Its another example of where your information seems to be old and outdated, not keeping up with what's actually happening today.
If you have an immediate Emergency, you can go to an ER without insurance and not be denied immediate treatment. If you need surgery, even if its serious, and you don't have insurance to pay for it, surgeons CAN refuse to do it.

Just think of all the people that die every year while the FDA holds up potentially useful drugs from entering the market. If I was terminal and going to die and my last hope was some experimental drug, that decision should be between me and my doctor whether the risk is worth it.

I will take full responsibility for my house, which would include paying any necessary premiums on insurance, etc., which, if I had no taxes, really wouldn't hurt my budget. Also, that would be a local issue, much different than a federal. Don't mind gov't at a county level, but thanks for the knee jerk response.

Your video is totally and utterly incorrect. They are all Democrat programs to which some are wasteful and need to be trimmed or abolished. Democrats use these programs against whomever doesn't fit their agenda. Especially ACORN and the ACLU. Time to rid America of these racist programs now.

The American healthcare system is insane, only in the home of greed (read capitalism) could someone justify making sick people pay for being sick. Making money from the suffering of others, and depriving poor people basic healthcare, how very uncivilized.

LOL really funny but why is socialism(?) bad. This health care reform will be great. people are just scared of change and difference. Just the thought of a different goverment makes some people full of hate and it scares them. I think we should implement a little bit of communism in america. Money and property and other things like that should be distributed based on needs not wants. EX: A Couple with 2 Kids will make more money and Have more land than 1 person. I'm an Australian so I am obviously missing the point here... people are against a better healthcare system? That makes no sense.
And Hulk: I'll dignify your response with an answer.
Australia is one of the most over taxed countries in the world. We get taxed 4 times on the dollar. and I'm ok with it. I don't have a high paying job, but I can be comfortable in the knowledge that if I do get sick or worse I have a healthcare system that will look after me.
