I played this at the LA Auto Show. I got first place in the 150cc Special Cup. Not too shabby. XD This game is pretty damn good for something that was rushed to get out during the holidays. (Thank you Retro Studios for helping Nintendo on this one!)

I would say it looks good but the lase Mario cart on a handheld just lost novelty due to lack of ability to play with friends. Mario cart Wii is amazing because it doesn't require everybody to own a 3ds

It will probably support 8. -"If all your racing buddies have a Nintendo 3DS system, only one of you needs a copy of Mario Kart 7 to enjoy Download Play. All of the exciting VS. game modes are available—the only difference is that whoever doesn't have the game can only play as Shy Guy" - Thats what it says on the site, it doesn't mention any player limitations so it is probably 8 players.

@08chinup I don't think so, it is in the multiplayer section of this game, but my guess is you can choose to play locally with friends or with 7 cpus, or even with both

@cppdipstick99 the game features download and play which allows other 3DS owners who don't have the game to race on select tracts. It also has 8 player Local play and 8 player online wifi-play and features the ability to add anyone you have raced as a friend to your friendslist.

It looks good. Customizable karts are something I've been hoping for since Mario Kart DS. Hopefully there will be enough good parts to allow for major varitions in what you'll see when playing online (instead of just 3 generally accepted "best" setups that everyone winds up using). And retreading tracks from previous iterations is always fun, though I doubt we'll ever see my dream half-hour long "Rainbow Road Circuit".

It's sad when they are releasing main stream games on a hand held instead of a console, just sad. Honestly I have never really been a Mario Kart fan, it's got stile, I'll give it that, but the car handling is so easy I can't play it! I am so used to having to steer the other way to control drift and such I just can't play it. Grand Torisomo I can't play ether, I like something in between, Burnout mainly. It does look good, though I'm to cheep to buy a DS let alone a 3DS. GBA forever!

@scottthewaterwarrior Any time Nintendo releases a new console, whether it's a handheld or a console, Nintendo makes a new Mario Kart. Notice how none of them are on the same console, Nintendo makes one to make each iteration unique on its platform. They're most likely gonna make the next Mario Kart for Wii U, so Mario Kart in HD.

@klanko64 Judging by the comments that he and others have said it plays a lot more like Double Dash for the Nintendo Game Cube and Mario Kart DS for the Nintendo DS. So if you like the Wii Mario Kart style game play more-so than the latter two than this game you might be disappointed or you may like it.

All of the levels have been leaked and without ruining anything the selection for the older courses is PERFECT.

Basically give it a buy, it's Mario Kart after all. :P

I'm SO happy the Blue shell is just a normal shell now. I was very skeptical about that, since I'd seen many Japanese videos of it exploding onto people, and I thought it was just the same thing with the wings taken off, but it does in fact hurt others before making its way to the person in the front.

I like how the graphics look a lot like the Wii version. I was always skeptical when people said "3DS is a portable Wii" but after playing Super Mario 3D Land...I think they may be right.

Are the power slides like the Wii version? I keep hearing conflicting reports on this. People are saying that it operates like in Mario Kart DS/Double Dash, others are saying they're the dumbed-down Wii power slides.
