Does anyone remember the sand people doing a sort of barn dance to a catchy cajun?/jig type tune done mostly on fiddles? I don't thik there were any letters involved.I would love to see that again the melody is still in my head.
I love these. I would try to describe these to friends and would seem impossible, lol. But now I know "sand letters" is the apropos titles for these fun shorts. Thanks for posting all of these!
From 1974, because this is probably the first in a series called "Sand Alphabet", which can be seen on "Sesame Street" from as early as 1974 to as late as 2001.
I remember both the catchy banjo tunes and the way the sand 'moved around' to simulate one or two people doing interesting things (like carry a box in this one and a see-saw in the 'M' one). Like others have mentioned, only three or four of these are on YouTube so far (unlike the typewriter series, where a lot more letters are on YouTube).
The name of the banjo tuneused in these "sand letter" clips is "Cripple Creek", a popular old folk song and bluegrass tune. It's a standard for bluegrass bands, fiddlers and banjo pickers. I used to play this song on my banjo. Never was very good at it, but I gave it my best shot!

I've posted one for the letter M, and also have an episode with the Y clip in it (that'll be coming later, I promise).
