That's wonderful Kate000uums....then my video has served it's purpose for you. I am so glad Maya Angelou's words inspired you to be a stronger person.
This poem is not for Black Women, but for all women all over the world. Listen to the words, not once does she specify colour or race. This is for all women, because we are phenomenal women.
NEVER felt this proud and self-assured to be a woman. I don't look "perfect"..I have a lot of guy friends who occasionally put me down with sly comments or remarks. But after this...?NOPE! Proud!!! Thank you Ms. Maya!!!
I have always loved this piece . You are an inspiration to me and many others who write poetry . Please Ms. Angelou please check out my video I'm 53 and new on the Youtube and I have written a book of poetry called Soul to Soul Inspiration . The video is called Soul to Soul . The poetry piece is a spiritual inspiration piece called He's A Wonder To My Soul . Its in the my book . I hope you take time out to read it . I would appreciate it very much Ms. Angelou . Thank you in advance .
Whenever I get to crying....all I have to do is listen to this.......and I remember I'm a Phenomenal Women....and always have been! and I'm NOT a Black Woman...(writer426).....I'm a Phenomenal woman too.
Awesome! I just loved this. Made me giggle and smile. It was like sitting at the feet of a favourite aunt and listening to her recite with such proud strength. I really loved it, thanks for finding it and sharing it. Miss Maya rocks!

GET TO WORK WOMAN . by HairyGoatsSniffer Many times I wonder why you wont clean the house I'm not angry or sad that you're a fat cow When I start to punch your face, You'll know to do what you're told Clean the gutters! Sweep the garage! Make me DINNER! Shine my shoes! You belong in the kitchen, WHINER! Phenomenally.
Im a fith grader and my name is Arllyssa Ray and i have to do an poem for my graduation and this might be the one i pick.I lust like the way the poem connects to me...THANK YOU MAYA ANGELOU for writing this poem!!!!!!!
On March 3, 2010 I heard and saw Meg Christian sing this poem on The 20th Anniversary Olivia Cruise. I am now waiting for her next CD which I know will include her song version of this poem. I was given a very special gift for which I am forever grateful.
I don't know that Maya would say that she wrote this for black women only. She was a proud advocate for all women. I think this fabulous poem is for all of us.
no offense but im pretty sure she said all women not just black women, im black by the way. but i do believe that black women take it in more than white women.
@Str8UpFabGeekStar...she certainly did intend it for ALL women, and I do think you're right that too many women who are not black don't feel it's for them...at least the silly ones who can't see that we're all connected.

this is even good for a dance. even without a beat; someone from my studio did a solo with this song last year and it was really good. i love this poem(:
She's a leader, role model in every way, but especially as writer; she doesn't waste a word. The tightest writing I've ever seen. My favorite is "On Diverse Deviations"

That of which are deeply heartfelt
With such poise and ease

Maya Angelou is a one in a billion woman. She makes us think. Think about ourselves, the ones we love and the world around us.
All I have to do is think of her, her face, her voice, her words and a peace surrounds me inside and out.
Thank you Ms Angelou... for being you
