I have a completely uninformed question, take no offense to it: does dry tooling permanently scar/damage the rock? i.e. does it ruin normal sport and trad climbs by scraping off or chipping hand/feet holds?

can happen... mostly because of people who don't know how to do it... if you know the rock well, you know how to climb it without damaging it

@vermontercm it can hurt the rock. but most of the places that ice forms, they arent very good for rock climbing bc the rock isnt ussualy very good, like its crumbly. because of all the freezing and thawing.

This is called taking unnecessary risks... hopefully for you no slabs of rock will ever break under the pressure of your ice axe, not to say you are damaging the rock for the next idiot to solo this climb.

Call me whatever you want but for some reason this is the kind of stuff I will never do nor condone: I lost too many good friends to the mountain (Christophe, Stéphane, Loic and Krishna), for what? for this kind of stupidity... You may have balls but you have no brain.

I am not watching: I am commenting and advising people not to do this, this is not fun, this is very very dangerous stuff, no matter how good and experienced you think you are.

Its much better to be a coward and continue to enjoy ice climbing with your friends then to be brave and to be five feets under.

i just have one dumb question: If "free climbing" refers to ascent without artificial aid (except for protection), how can mixed be free climbing with the use of the hand tools. I understand he's soloing ropeless, but is it really 'free' soloing? Symantics I know, but I was just curious...awesome climb BTW

free climbing is more accurately defined as supporting your body weight by yourself by using features on the rock, or in this case as too.

Aid climbing means that your weight is supported by anchors, temp or permanent.
