no one is qualified to say what is better or worse in the world of songwriting but i certainly prefer green day from the beginning up to (and including) american idiot. AI was a masterpiece to me as although the song content was quasi-political, the music was as melodic as abbey road.
i find the music, concept and writing on the new album incoherent and unenjoyable. many others do too.
