@CanadaSteamBuff You won't be disappointed. She's a hell of a guitarist, not a bad singer, and she's sexy as hell. Also, one extremely nice lady, if you get to meet her. She had a daughter not long ago, took time off to be a mommy, and then went back into the studio. She's either Serb or Croat, I'm not sure which (I've heard people call her both nationalities, but I didn't think it was necessary to ask her myself). Tremendous talent. Should be a major star.
WTF! It seems the camera man should have been able to hold that camera steady. Judging from most of what I saw, it looks as though he was wrestling with the camera. The camera wouldn't contained and we all lost.
Anna is without a doubt the hottest female guitarist in this genre--if not in music today.
WTF!!! I mean, all the other videos of this performance are SO MUCH better. Don't be a jag-off, appreciate the video for what it is (FREE). It was a raucous show and I was moving to the front. If you're "judging from most of what you saw" then you didn't watch the whole thing -- it's >9 min long with at least 6 minutes of reasonably steady shooting. you obviously didn't watch the whole thing. dilettante
and anyways, I don't see you posting any coppola quality vids on your site.
Tim, relax. I wouldn't have made the comment if I wasn't familiar with your work. If a fan, such as I, can't comment on your work, and hold you to a higher standard, who can?
If in calling me a dilettante, as defined, you were saying I was "a lover of an art or science, esp. of a fine art." I'mcomplimented
If you were saying I was a " person who takes up an art, activity, or subject merely for amusement, esp. in a desultory or superficial way; dabbler" I am amused.
@rd350c He's obviously an idiot.... Anybody that's seen live music knows it quite hard to get stead footage esp if they are any kind of partier.. How can you film straight when at tiomes you can't see straight??? Exactly @ crossharpchronicles, stay home live music doesn't need your presence!!!! or want it
@rd350c Don't worry, I think the video was freaking HOT! Some guys could be getting a blow job with a glass of Patron in thier hand and still find something to complain about
In my opinion it does not do the original version justice. In tone playing and sound. Kind of sounds like a blues bar bands take on a classic tune. I mean no offense and this just my opinion. It is a hard song to pull of desently.
Just saw her about a month ago. Had barely heard of her, but me and a friend of mine saw her right in front of us in Columbia Missouri. We were simply AWESTRUCK! It's been a long long time since a guitar player could reach into my heart and pull it out of my chest.
after 30 secs of a Steve Vai "solo" he sounds like a speed scale exercise - good if you have trouble sleeping - snorrrre- This lady doesn't have his technical skill but she's got heart he can only dream about - she'll keep you up all night long !
Jimi wrote this about the race riots, Watts, MLK, civil rights.....'why do you burn your own brothers house down'.........and maybe it was also about the Black Panthers too...........Jimi was becoming more politically aware in 1968-9 and this is reflected in his writing....
Fantastic song and nice effort by Ana....tough one to play live
It pisses me off and dumb founds me. How only male guitarists are known in the media..
I mean don't get me wrong Kirk Hammet is super talented and has mad skill. But, I personally feel that those "medal" shredders don't play from their heart and soul like this lady does..And many other talented under-apperciated guitarists on here.
I'm just discovering ana now and I'm blown away. She is the real thing. The blues audience seems to be her only audience. When in fact this is great music hopefully her popularity branches out. As far as I can tell she is kicking everyones ass now and a few decades prior male or female. Write to guitar mags and let them know.
@MistyLove7 Lots of great female players out there to check out. Here's a few more: Debbie Davies, Deborah Coleman, Leni Stern, Liona Boyd and Susan Tedeschi. There aren't that many female rock guitarists out there that get noticed, but it's usually for the wrong reasons. (Lita Ford immediately springs to mind - can you say mediocre? Whenever anyone mentions her, they start off with "she's hot", but can't say much for her playing - intermediate level at best.)
@lighteningboy Sue is a very talented lady, and I have some of her stuff as well. She did that "Ruf Blues Caravan" tour with Ana a few years ago. Like Rory Block, Sue is a better acoustic player than electric, although she's not too bad with an electric guitar. In my original list to MistyLove7, I listed women who were not exclusively blues guitarists (Leni Stern, wife of American jazz player Mike Stern, and classical guitarist Liona Boyd).
@lighteningboy Phenomenal musician, but as with most classical musicians, doesn't receive much mainstream attention. Also, at the time you met her, she was quite a beauty as well.
You can definitely hear the Jeff Beck influence. Great interpretation of the song. But in correction, "House Burning Down" was about the Watts Riots and the murder of MLK
Some opinions from a Hendrix fan who "was there:"
Don't know what she was doing at 1:20, 3:30 and 4:30. Sounds like noodling.
But before that and after 6:30, excellent interpretation, cool chords and accompanying her vocals.
Sad, how many people have to loudly blab while someone's making art.
Thanks for sharing the video. It's an opportunity to see how someone "out of the box" plays and improvises.
Wow! Had no idea she's from the former Iron Curtain (tm). That in itself says something.
