Well, actually lordcapucino said: Work, man, work, in the last videos you're just talking too much, now get fucked just working, you bitch, my luck he doesn't understand what I'm talking....
I've always believed that a true master will make his/her own tools, etc. A tool will always work sweeter if it was your own sweat and blood created the tool.
Well, truth be told, i started making my own cuz i was a poor kid and could afford to keep replacing those crappy store bought ones. I bought a BuJin laminated one in about 1988 or 89 and thought , Hell, i can do this.. BTW that Bujin broke after about a year, which was about 11 months longer then the cheapies. To bad really, i kinda liked that bokken..
absolutely fantastic. no matter how many times I watch, I am still impressed. if you do not have access to hickory, what other type of wood would you recommend?
Have you ever tried making a Bokken out of Asian Teak? Very tough stuff. The Teak bokkens I made are VERY, VERY tough. I smashed it with all my might to a very tall and thick coconut tree, no dent. Then I decided to go on a slashing frenzy and do the same thing over and over again for like 20 times, and not even a single dent.
Several people have responded the same way.. And i have made several with a belt sander. Dont get me wrong, you can make a really Great weapon w a sander, absolutely, but you can also ruin it in a SECOND w a slip. I find by carving it, removing a little at a time the result is almost always better. Also, i like to carve. Besides, I'm not in a Rush, the only ones i've messed up were the ones i rushed.
is that bokken capable of withstanding hits? ive tried carving one out of a chemicaly proccessed w00d taken from a bed.. it only took 1 hit from an aluminum pipe to shatter it in 14 pieces..
wood from a bed?. I would guess PINE. This impact grade hickory bokken would easily beat that aluminum pipe to a pulp. VERY Durable, very resilient. Its not just that..Hickory has GIVE. them things that can give WILL Give, them things that cant give WILL Break.
If I were you, I'd get a table and a clamp - tried making a bokuto like yours, and managed to ram the plane on my thumb. I also shoved a chisel near the root of the said thumb too... For good woodworking, please take precautions and secure your wood!
This is a very good point. In this video I point out that it only take a fraction of a section to give yourself an injury that will last a life time. However, securing the blank is not the answer. a good set of heavy gloves will suffice. For GOOD wood working you must get a good RESULT. I have tried using a vice, and clamps and got a Very bad result. Thats why I use the gloves. However, if vises and clamps are your thing ..Then ROCK ON!
Yes i do make weapons. To this point its only been for Aikido students of mine or other schools I practice at but I'll try to get a geocities site up or something to show current available units. As to special orders, well, the piece of wood dictates what the end result is, so,if you want one particular or "custom" give me the specs and when one come out that way I'll let you know. Dont be in a hurry. Sorry,I relize others would promise you any thing you want w whatever stick of wood they have.
sends to other countries?
