  • i'm gonna go take a shower now...to wash the gay off me

  • A first years guitar student can play this solo.... If you play guitar for more then 5 years you can only laugh at this video.

  • @dontanner232 are you making millions of dollars on records and playing on stage in front of thousands of people every night? i didnt think so. stop being an asshole and thinking youre a total badass because youve been playing for over 5 years. who gives 2 shits if youve been playing that long? obviously you're not the one on stage making millions

  • Better than Clapton... ha... y'all are dumb.

  • @pbskl hahahahahahaha for real

  • That might be the most boring solo of all time... its a half-assed SRV copy solo..

  • This guy couldn't hold Joe Bonamassa's guitar pick.

  • I'm tired of reading comments crying who's the best guitar player of all time...just appreciate great players like this when they come along. There is no scale to compare SRV to Hendrix to Clapton to this guy... etc. It's all subjective and personal opinion. So please, stray from the normal YouTube edicate and show some respect for each other :)

  • i wonder how old that guitar is .. :)

  • @Jo80Ch it´s a custom guitar made by fender for him and he ask to be that way old looking, i think it´s from 2003, it´s not a vintage one

  • @Jo80Ch It was made in 2004. It was made to look "vintage" because John didn't want a lot of paint on it since lacquer robs you of tone. Sot was made in the custom shop by John Cruz. John Mayer sprayed the paint and then it was reliced by the Fender custom shop.

  • @25ragz take it from someone who has seen john live, he is very very good, but not quite as good as SRV.

And he isnt in the same galaxy as Hendrix.

  • @ZeppelinFan6980 Agreed. Mayer isn't quite as good as SRV, Nowhere near Hendrix but better than Clapton.

  • Malmsteen blows Jimi off the stage..with his shredadelic style

  • Some people want compare progressive with blues... Are differents styles...

  • Hey Akogab, what kind of camera were you using?

  • he's got an ipod tatoo on his right arm?

  • @Radiowass Hah nope, it's three spaces, which of two spaces are filled with ink.The last space is empty because John doesn't know himself what to put there. He said it's a matter of time and experience.

  • Damn, a voice and guitar talent too - I agree with those that say put the pop shit aside and appreciate the real musician you see here. Hey, we all have to make a living and pop music makes this guy some cash so he can go out into the world and play real music.

  • you are good n verry good :)

  • check out that absolute lad rocking out in the background at 2:14 LOL

  • John Mayer's twin brother on keyboard at 2:07...

  • He looks like he's about cry when he first starts his solo.

  • I wish I could have been there.

  • hydrostem you're an idiot

  • @hydrOstem What's droning and repetitive is the diarrhea metal riffs that Alexi Laiho plays. These guys make love to their instruments with that six note scale. That's why people love Mayer, Vaughn, and Hendrix. You can't sweep pick your way through songs like this; it needs soul.

  • He makes some of the funniest faces I've ever seen anyone make haha.

  • he's so baked..... lol look at his face! yet still one of the most incredible guitarist to walk the face of the earth

  • It just looks so easy for him. I swear that man has every single fret on that guitar memorized and exactly how it will sound if he does this or that to it. Incredible musician.

  • @ilivestrong25 sry but most guitarists with skill have the scales burned into their fingers not just johnny here...still sweet solo thou

  • For those who don't know......this is called FRET MASTURBATION. Getting a beat up guitar and wanking on the blues scale does not necessarily make one Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Suggestion: get yourself decent gear and a bit of groove on the blues scale for a day and you could actually do way better than Mr.Mayer in this video.

  • @partha3030150 haha ur absolutely right this guy wont get any close to greats like muddy waters, buddy guy, SRV or clapton

  • @Traumzimmer bet he's fucking better than you though

suck balls john mayer is a fucken freak.. that guitar ability and that voice..

  • @Traumzimmer rene martinez said that john mayer is actually the only one who came close to srv. and he's still improving.

  • @partha3030150 Mate you couldnt come close John, and if so post a video for proof ?

  • Y is his guitar all scraped?

  • @Ben80997 because he wanted either an old guitar or one that looks like its old. Either way, its very expensive.

  • @scottelliottmusic It looks like it might be a Blackie replica.

  • @12USH Probably. He certainly didnt play it to that condition. I dont get that whole fake worn out guitar thing. Guess it goes with the fake worn out jeans people pay a fortune for.

  • @scottelliottmusic He wanted little paint on it so that the body would resonate. Normal guitars don't resonate because of the lacquer on the body so he had them take it off in the custom shop. There's vid about it somewhere on here

  • King of Pop or King of Blues, You decide. I hate how everyone hates on him. I think they got too much ear wax in their ears. Apparently they can not hear this that is playing right now. There has not been a solo where I have not seen John make funny faces because he is playing with his solo. He deserves to be carrying the blues torch. He's Stevie Ray Vaughan's Ghost.

  • 2 WORDS perfect, amazing!!!

  • Comment removed

  • nice enough, but for a guy as arrogant as he is he really needs to get his chops up and make way for a real blues artist to get appreciated.... everything he does just feels too calculated

  • @straight138edge i agree. He is completely overrated! I have seen guys at open mic night play twice as good as him.

  • @wfenio lol, you should be a comedian!

  • @straight138edge - listen to some more of his blues originals and covers.

there's a LOT of it. i think you might change your mind on that last statement

  • fuck hes better than i thought he was lol

  • I saw Mayer at a legends of guitar show a few years back over in England, with the like of Jimmy Page, David Gilmore, Eric Clapton and others. I didnt know who John Mayer was but he sure kept up with them pretty well.

Ive been to two of his shows since, and I consider his guitar playing to be the closest to those legends of the current artists out there. Regardless of what anyone says about his cockiness, the kid sells out every venue, which is more than any of us can say

  • @surfnturf1384 I can agree with you, mainly because he is one of the very few current pop artist out there who actually plays guitar, as in the guitar is usually the primary focus of his songs.Few musical entertainers even play instruments anymore, so yes he is COMPARATIVELY close to some of those legends, however, I would say Jack White is closer, as far as mainstream pop players.Mayer doesn't have enough character to his playing to be on the level of Gilmore and Page, or even Clapton.

  • @scottelliottmusic good point.

also Mayer's style doesn't have enough originality to be on their level. His blues phrasing is often lifted whole-cloth from SRV! in my opinion anyway.. which is not to say that he is a bad musician, but just that he is overrated. like i said before..I've seen open mic players that are easily on Mayer's level.

  • @surfnturf1384 he's past all those players you just listed by a long shot. They couldnt touch what john has.You have to respect them because theyre great...but john has something that has never been seen before. ..and once he shows the full reveal of what he has to offer all of the haters will shit in ther pants.. but will be too stubborn to admit hes amazing.

and he is not cocky at all ...the people that say that know absolutely nothing about hin. He's one of the most humble musicians today.

  • @25Ragz

I wouldn't exactly say he is humble. He is clearly a cocky show off but has the talent to back himself up. He has a right to be arrogant. He clearly respects the greats like SRV and Hendrix and that's why I respect him. If anyone was in that guys shoes they would be arrogant too.

I am a self proclaimed "born again" John mayer fan.

  • I don't care what anyone says, JOHN MAYER is the MAN. I would be fortunate enough to play at least half as good as he does. You can feel this man's solo in your soul! WOW!!

  • hey scottelliott...i totally agree, this guy is one of the most cockiest kids ive ever seen or heard, i mean the riffs are what they should be for a 20 some year old who practices and nothing more, the guy is just so full of himself, and there are other guitarists that are way technically better and the way they interpret is way better, i find mayor one of the most boring guitarists to listen to, he's not a shredder, god sent buckethead to do that, and he's not much of a blues either...boring

  • @crazyolwhiteman....Thank you, good to know someone can see past the hype

  • This would be amazing live. I mean actually being there.

  • I've been questioning whether or not John is way too high on himself as well. In interviews he does have a certain air about him. I'm trying to figure out if he's just real quirky, or if not then it's an ego thing. While I hate that stuff I can only say that this guy is one of the best guitarists to come along in quite a while. He's brilliant and I do think many of his critics are either jealous of him or just don't like him, as opposed to truly believing he isn't a superb musician.

  • He def. is too cocky. He has no competition as a guitar player in todays music, so of course he's the best, but he's just lacking the soul to be a real blues player...he always comes off castrated to me. All the right notes, but not the right passion. Technically, he can kill it, but he's boringly safe to me.

  • There's a 9 minute solo/song here that I believe is called no rain. It's really worth a look because the whole deal including the vocals and his guitar work are astounding. Massive feel and originality on display. When the dust clears he will be considered a legend just like all the guys people say he can't match up to. He's young and motivated. Clapton thinks he's phenomenal so that's a nice compliment. I've listened to all the best for 30 years and this guy is the real deal.

  • Found it.I know he can play wonderfully, but hes un-inspiring. Same w/Clapton. Mayer is like Kenny-G on guitar:master of his instrument, but plays lame music.Like a studio musician or house band on a talk show;perfect, neat, clean and forgettable, like any blues w/out grit. Thats what Hendrix had that made 'god' Clapton want to quit music. He knew he couldnt learn that feeling.i don't get excited by Mayer's playing is all.he doesn't have what tons of practice can't teach.

  • check out Buddy Guy- First Time I met The Blues to get and idea of what I mean by feeling and grit in blues music. THAT is how it should be played!

  • no competition in today's music industry ? just check out people like Joe Bonamassa for instance, doyle bramhall or in a different genre Jeff Loomis, there are plently of talented guitar players out there.

  • yeah, but I mean that most people know.Believe me, I see more talented players every week out playing, but everyone drools over his paying because he's the only contemporary guitar player you hear on the radio along side Cunt-ry stars and Am. idol contestants etc), which sadly (along with 'hip-hop') are the best in music for apparently a huge portion of America.Who is his competition? There is no guitar music anymore(i mean STARING guitar, not featuring or sampling)

  • put him back in the 80's along side Van Halen, Paul Gilbert, George Lynch, Steve Vai, Malmsteen, Randy Rhoads, Stevie Ray etc), the guy would be non-existent. There is just a huge void where guitar music once was and he's the only person to successfully step in because he put out chick-porn for 5 years then tried to cross over to guitar rebel. If he was that good, why did he have to be famous for 4yrs. before any blues came out?...maybe cuz hes not that good

  • true that , have you heard his last cd, sounds like blues doesn't pay the bills, he got back to cheesy pop songs for abercrombie teens

  • yeah....and the duet w/ Taylor Swift? talk about cashing in on someone else's recent 'hot new entertainer' status...or maybe he was just horny that day. I mean, its not like she's the best female singer out there, if he was trying to go for best quality music. Jennifer Nettles would have even been a stronger choice (although I could do w/out her music as well), she is a FAR better singer

  • well to get facts straight, he didnt even start doing blues till mid 2000's when he became indulged in it, for clapton to say he is as good as any one else is a huge compliment he wouldve been famous regardless if he woulda jumped straight into blues

  • @kyleg821Why doesn't the blues community recognize him? Search for "Best Blues guitar players" or "Best blues artist".No mention of Mayer. Joe Bonamassa is everywhere. That confirms Mayer is not a true blues player. He can do it passably for a pop star, but in the real blues world, he's a comical foot note if anything. Jack White is far more of a blues player than Mayer.Mayer just recycles SRV licks with 1/4 of the power/passion. He adds nothing new.I will agree he is indulgent, as you say.

  • Best solo I've heard in a long time.

  • I respect J.Mayer as a guitar player but as a person, he seems like a total d-bag. How do you lose a girl like Jennifer Aniston!? People might hate me for saying this, but I strongly believe he is a jerk in person. I mean, he got in a verbal argument and a near punch out over a conversation about Ron Paul.

    Great soloist though!

  • @ZiggyStarbizzle yea john mayer has a big ego. On the clapton's crossroads dvd, in the interview with him he comes off as an arrogant prick. There are so many better guitar players with far less inflated egos in the world. At least his isn't as bad as Dave Mustaine that guy is a trash talking dickhead.

  • @chickenmanstan you are so fucking wrong...john is one of the most humble guitar players in the world... idont understand why you dbags hate on him.and ther isNOT better guitar players than him..he is by far the best you fucking retarded cock sucker

  • that was a joke that him and justin long were pulling... hahah

  • how does a "soft rock" artist rock harder than 75% of all rock out there?

  • @yummdiddy his not a soft rock artist... he has maserd every genre of music. ..and he's by far the best guitarist in the world.

  • what a fag

  • Admit it... you would give up everthing you have to be him. You want his women, his money and his talent. But instead, you're just a loser living in his mom's basement trying to insult the people you envy.

  • lol rip

  • really? i live in my mom's basement? cause i believe i'm in college. wow, the saying is true then i guess. i just learned something new today.... i am not in college, but i am living in my mom's basement.

  • Pretty close. When you're not at college (probaby paid for by mom) you are livng with mom (probably in her basement). But even if ALL of that is wrong, the rest is certainly true (except that you wouldn't give up mom becuase she's your meal ticket).

  • lol man you're funny. getting fired up about a comment on a video that does not pertain to you. now that's pretty childish. can you tell me, does it hurt to be such a bad ass?.... lmao

  • and by the way man (if you're really a man) [being like smarterthananyone], why would i call someone [john mayer] a fag if i envied that person [john mayer]? i would get down on my knees and take one on the chin if i envied them. :-)

  • and i look forward to your response, everyone needs a few laughs in a day right?

  • A) You're right, I am funny AND smarter than you

    B) You called him a fag BECAUSE you envy him and badly resent it. Try to be honest with yourself, he's not the first wildly successful person you've called a "fag" now is he

    C) Go back to "studying" Mr. College student, Mom isn't spending her money for you to watch YouTube all day

  • lol yea i also called the jonas brothers fags, but you know, they're just successful and i'm jealous of their beautiful hair, right?

  • No. You're jelous of their money and success. You could care less about their hair (until you lose yours). Go home to mommy and cry to her about your boring life.

  • dude your come backs are great. keep them coming big guy.

  • oh wait sorry i forgot to put an A) next to that, hope that's okay. i don't want you getting mad about that too ;-) lmao

  • Who's mad? You make me laugh mommy's boy. p.s. I urge you to see Penn State's psych department about your sexual insecurities. Oops... maybe you should go to someone qualified at a REAL school.

  • yes because a real school would produce a mechanical engineering program ranked 10th in the country, not 11th right? you're funny man. lol

  • 0:00 - 2:30 min WOW!!!!

  • uh no?

  • um yes. fucking google it.

  • i know it looks rough. but its true. google it if you dont fucking believe me.

  • wow, you seem so sure its blackie, how cute. First of all, if you knew anything about the guitars Clapton plays, or did indeed use google, you'd see that blackie has a Maple fretboard, John's does not. And of course the finish wear on John's is waaay more extensive than that of blackie.

  • Secondly, you are correct, Blackie went in auction for 960K, but it went to Guitar Center in 06, and has been under lock and key, doing viewing tours around Guitar Centers and conventions, along with the Crossroads ES335, ever since it was copied by them for the Blackie reissue.

    Good try though.

  • lol i well i guess i lose. well played sir.

  • nice cam quality dude.. and i love that song man!!

  • haha 1:25 he is so jackin off

  • This show had one of the best vibes from absolute start to finish that I've ever seen. thanks for sharing these!
