iphone supports H.264, MPEG-4 in .mp4, .m4v, .mov and there is lot of softwares in the market - both free and commercial - which You can use for resizing those video formats. If You install plugin pack into VirtualDub, so You can import videos from iphone with MP4 format and resize it then with VirtualDub.
You do need splitters only if You want to split video and audio to TV. If You are using a normal composite cable, so then You need this kind of splitters:
Print that text to the paper - it is then very easy to follow. I have not time to make better tutorial at this moment, because my main job (selling capture cards and acessoris in my online stores) take so much of my time.

Sony Vegas is a very good editing software, but it cost money - VirtualDub is free software and it can produce as good quality.

Not much difference after capturing, but VirtualDub is much faster and more professional with editing.
