There are no jobs in America because workers, like those in GM, demand to be paid over $50 an hour for putting screw in a car and quite frankly because the politicians in bed with the corporations shipped the jobs overseas :P
Wal-Mart's manufacturers are basically telling you..."Hey I know you like getting paid and all..but we would rather pay you 5 dollars a day..these people in china were sold out by their government to provide slave labor."
The main problem with the United States and it's citizens is not college or jobs, the problem is debt. America borrows for everything, school, homes, cars, furniture, everything!!!!! This obsession with borrowing and debt must stop!!! Why? Because of the global economy called GLOBALISM!!!! The only way America will have a chance to compete in the global economy is to get out of debt and stay out of debt.
In 10 years unemployment will be at 18% official rate and 30% reality rate. In 20 years China will consume more. In 30 years Chinese money will control 40% of americas big companies and, thus so, 40% of our economy. In 40 years we will get money from China, the richest country in earth, and China will produce technology for our blue-collar renaissance, the only way we will be able to lower unemployment rates of 45%. Forgot to mention detroit will have 150,000 pop.
Why only Walmart? Other companies sell their items that were made from China. Business have to stop buying items from other countries, and just buy their items from the U.S.A, so their will be thousands and thousands of jobs. That way our Economy can rise up once more.
@iJJ1694 So actually you are arguing for protectionism. Prices of goods in the US will rise, it won't help you at all. In fact; it will destroy the world economy!
@Chhaylin Protectionism? Which is worse? backing a country with a horrible history of human rights violations? Welcome to the burger flipping economy. People get all excited by saving 5 cents and don't realize that they enabling slave labor.
@phoenixzion82 Human rights... sound so noble. Maybe you should read some history on US and their violations of 'human rights'. You're only looking at one side of the story; indeed most goods are made in China. BUT it leads to lower prices for Americans. If you want to solve the problem, you don't do this by protectionism. Americans have to accept lower wages so it attracts more businesses. Not just that, Americans are encouraged to spend and not to save; which is wrong as well...
@Chhaylin "Americans have to accept lower wages to attracts more businesses"???? How can you compete with Chinese slave labor? Do you know that a big part of Chinese employees are paid in RICE? How are you going to compete against that? What we need to do is to stop buying stuff made in china and force the American companies to realize that outsourcing our jobs is an act of treason against the land that help you to succeed. We don't need protectionism we need common sense
@Jaruco03 It's a myth that many Chinese are paid in rice. I've never heard such a thing while living in China. I agree with you though that we need common sense. However, forcing American companies to produce in US is (trade) protectionism. Suppose that Jones has a farm and Smith works for him. Jones exhorts Smith to 'buy Jones' and to 'keep the money at home'. To make sure that their aim is accomplished, Jones levies a 1000% tariff on imports from abroad. The problem of unemployment is solved.
@Jaruco03 However, their real value of wages, in terms of goods, plummets drastically. International protectionism, while less dramatic as interregional or interpersonal protectionism, has the same effect. Foreigners will invest and buy less from the US, resulting in less export and less employment.
I don't want to sound like a prick, but this is the rationale behind my viewpoint. Jaruco, I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. :)
When things were very bad in 2008 many of us with high college degree worked in those factories which is hard work with little salary, but we were trying our best waiting the things to get better. I also lost my job in a foreign company an worked in the factory for two and half year. Last I want to say "Please keep trying your best! and may God bless America.." :)
our country doesn't allowed investors to move their whole assets to another countries from the very beginning and it is a law Because that will leave many people without jobs so even though a big company has factories in other countries their main branch is still in Taiwan and some of their other factories as well. They encourage everyone to buy things made in Taiwan this is why there is still so many "manly made factories" in my country.
Sorry to write twice, but I still want to say " People from other countries also wonder why we barely see things Made in U.S.A.?" "Why most of the things are imported from other countries?" "Are you encouraging your people to buy things of other countries than of ourselves?" "Why are the taxes still so high when things are already so bad?" " What's the main point of raising the taxes?" "Is the government so blind not seen what's happening outside?" ...
This video is very meaningful... I think they should show this video in the news or mention it in a congress cause this is what is all about. I am not an american I'm from Taiwan, but I still wish U.S.A. economy and job opportunities can increase and get better, it really makes me feel sad to see things turning out like these, I think it is a "Global problem" it will eventually affect everyone if things doesn't get better in the U.S.A. dollars is after all an international currency!
Why there are no jobs in America!!?? LOL. Because you dumb ass consumeristic Americans want everything cheaper and better that you force companies to outsource to overseas nations like China and India. And hence Chinese and Indian workers make all the consumer junk you find in Walmart or in your local mall.
@Gabbo2010 Our government actually gives corporations giant tax breaks for exporting our jobs to "Developing" countries like China while at the same time taxing and regulating the same companies here in the states. The regulations seem to change daily as well, there's no way to keep up with most of them.
With our government working so hard for the benefit of our corporations and foreign countries, it's little wonder we're in the shape we're in.
It's not Walmart that is causing the problems, it's the people.
You can have low prices OR you can have good jobs....you can't have both.
Most people choose the low prices.
A company can open right next to Walmart, we'll call it US Only! They only sell stuff that was made 100% in the US. It will be a small store that doesn't sell many items, but the prices would have to be much higher than Walmarts. The aftermath, no one would shop there and it would go belly up! Blame the people!
You are so on the money, although I still disagree with you that Australia will collapse, Australia is too small and a niche economy to collapse, America has 300 million mouths to feed, its needs massive economic activity to achieve a high living standard. America's nominal per capita GDP is around $47,000 per capita, Australia is $67,000 per capita, these are figures in terms of current exchange rates not PPP.
@mryellow123 Our government and corporations also sold us out in the name of greater profits and foreign aid in the name of "economic development" for "Developing nations". This stuff wouldn't be so cheap if China had to pay tariffs and duties on the products they export here. They have most favored nation trade status, it's all profit, and they also hold their currency down illegally, but our government is too afraid to really challenge them over it.
@Oldbmwr100rs Something to be aware of, aid is actually a profit machine. Clinton subsidised the US wheat industry so they over-produce. Excess is given to WFP who collude with IMF and WorldBank.
1) If you want our aid you have to take a loan and sell us all your utility companies.
2) Food sent to storage.
3) If you want it delivered from storage you have to destroy private seed stocks and take Monsanto seed leases.
This is the way things are going now, excpet and stop complaining. I lost my job to China and it is never going to come back. Soon our automobile as GM, Ford, Chrystler will be made China as Union workers will have to settle for minimum wage jobs like all of us had to to.
Nothing is made in America, except for the auto industry and that may end being next as China is ready to start manufacturing US automobiles. There are many jobs available in the USA, such as scrubing toilets, washing dishes, working construction, working fast food and sweeping the parking lot. Just get off you lazy ass and take a low end job for minimum wage!
As long as people look constantly for cheap products, and don't vote with their money by shopping at local businesses, they will perpetuate this cycle. Of course, it seems to be that you have to shop super cheap because your job doesn't pay that much, your job doesn't pay that much because your company makes less money (probably), your company makes less money because they sell fewer of their products, they sell fewer products because the majority of people can't afford to buy much.
