I just saw her in Kansas City on May 28th and this performance was so great, I can't seem to find a word to properly suit it. I have never, ever felt such a pull to an artist. I'm in love, in awe, and blown away by her abilities.
@MultiBlicker What's even more unbelievable is after performing on stage for over an hour to have her finish with this song and actually be able to hold that note in live concert. I was blown away at her ability to put on a live show that somehow sounded even better than the cd. <3 Janelle
@Annamandabella Its not a somehow.. She has talent unlike most singers today. If you can sing your live shows should be great but most singers now adays live shows suck because they have no real talent. This is why she isnt famous because she is real unlike all of these fakes in the industry
@NYODDrea13 Your response reads like you're trying to tell me something I already know, in a snotty way at that. When I said "I was blown away at her ability to put on a live show that somehow sounded even better than the cd" I meant that in the most complimentary way. It's hard to outdo something already perfect, and I was implying that she had been able to do so.
This is awesome, love it. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but was that bit from 2:19-2:33 natural? I wouldn't know if that's typical of her or not since I'm not familiar with her music.
@IRunLA69 Trust me, THAT was all natural!! She performed this at Glastonbury and she hit that high note :) Hope that helps. Janelle is amazing!!!! WOOP!!!
No other current artist has the same pipes and range as she has, just look the difference between this and BeBopByeYa, who else can do that so perfect? or should I rather say; who else DOES that?
@MyEggIsBoiled Janelle wasn`t the executive producer of this album and she wrote very few lines of the songs, if any. Mariah Carey never really had an interesting album concept (except for her recent ones which don`t count) but she did write a majority of the songs from her classic era.
Janelle came to Buffalo with Of Montreal and closed her set with this song. O M G Amazing! To top things off, she did a mosh pit dive and came into the crowd! We danced together as one frenzy beating heart. Everyone cried. it was like too great for words.
@vidsbyseon she did the same thing at my college in upstate new york this weekend. i was one of the people who caught her when she jumped into the crowd. i still can't believe i saw her live and TOUCHED her!!!
@myuzeefreak Indeed, she's fabulous & phenomenal! but we need to stop acting like these people are Gods. They're human beings with great talent yes, but "I TOUCHED her," really?!!!
Stereotype who? Label who? True Artist....YES! Now, there are two Alboms I can listen to all the way through and that's Off The Wall- MJ...and Archandroid- Janelle Monae....real talk.
This was the only song that i wasn't feeling when i listened to the album but now since i gave it a chance i'm mad that i can't sing along with it when i ply the album through lol its coming around tho amazing song
@crackpills11 it's about her character in her music. she's in this insane asylum or something and they're not sposed to be creative, but she's sneakin around and doin it. somethin like that.
The guitar and her voice needed more ooomph in this song, but otherwise i love it. It woulda been great if the contrast between loud and quiet were greater, and that at least on one of the "alive" and some screams her voice would just fill the speakers.
This girl is soooo cute, but she's crazy good. Love herrrr
