There is no accent. The English was sung perfectly.  At first, I thought they were messing around but apparently, there's a real debate going on here. I'm intrigued. Other than taking the poster's word for it, the only definitive evidence I can find against the Nana camp is that I don't see this song listed anywhere in her discography on her own site. Can someone point to it?

I watched and her flow is entirely different which is something that can't be faked. Different singers have different breath flows and that particular video that i watched was definitely not her.

Well, this version is clearly "on". It might not be the original lyrics sung by The Toys but grammartically still correct. Just the meaning is slightly different! Sarah Vaughan also sang it with "on".

This version is being sung by Nana Mouskouri, not Kelly Chen. I know because I've had this recording for years. Both women sound great, and also very similar to each other. But there is a grammatical error in Chen's version: for her, the birds are "high up on the trees" while for Mouskouri, they are "high up in the trees".

you might hear "on", but I hear "in". I'll grant that it is not that clear. But the rest of this song, especially the arrangment, sounds exactly like the recording that I have which is by Mouskouri. If you listen to the other clips of Chen's performance on youtube, the phrase "high up on the trees" is enunciated much more clearly, which could be taken as another difference between this performance and the ones that are indisputably Chen's.

Yes, it is minuet in G,, but not by chance. The Toys version (1965) is still the best, and ranks up there with "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" as the best of the 60's girls groups tunes.

@kellybag Yes, Minuet in G, which is 3/4 time, whereas this is 4/4. It's actually from the Anna Magdalena Bach notebook , and wasn't necessarily written by Bach himself. The notebook was a teaching manual Bach compiled for his family, some of which he wrote.
