I saw that too when I was in Ibiza. I am a pilot. I thought the wing was going to explode. The sound was like a fucking jackhammer right next to your ear. And that continued until the plane went out of sight. The plane was, to an extent, on fire, landing gear down until it was out of sight.  They should have shut the engine down sooner. And in person the plane looked MUCH lower to the ground, probably 500-800 feet when It started to happen.

@DDomonkos123 You are a pilot yet you don't know when a Jet Engine is merely suffering repeated compressor stalls...? Even if it was not compressor stalls that would be the initial reaction in the cockpit and they would be reducing thrust on that engine to try and cure the problem.. only once that was obviously not working would they shut down an engine...?

@murpet1988 The video only shows a portion of the incident. The plane was having issues for, at least, more than 60 seconds and the landing gear was down the whole time. I suspect there was some indecision or confusion by the pilots.

@DDomonkos123 I do see what you mean but bear in mind where they are.. over water with only 3 islands. I am afraid I am not familiar with their SOP's or the 737 take off weight VS landing weight. I'd leave it running until it packed up and died or it was very close to it.. saving the engine from further damage is one of the last concerns the pilot has. After landing they can see what caused the problem but in the air never shut down something that can still be helpful without knowing for sure..
