  • Lovely song, thanks for sharing.

  • Fantastic band..great lyrics and music. I am 64 and love this sound, knockout.

  • My ICT teacher at school is the bassist in this band - Darren Bonehill. Wow!

  • @peterpib2 sure, why not, just write the same comment on every single song of the leisure society

  • @animegalc4 Ha, its funny because I did; but I don't know what context you are saying that in.

  • @peterpib2 i said it in sort of sarcastic way because i know you did. now i'm kind of sorry now, though. i realised that if my ICT teacher was in this brilliant band, i too would want to smear the news all over youtube.

  • @animegalc4 Oh right, its just over the net you never know, which is why I use (!) to indicate sarcasm. Yeah I know what ya mean. Its just funny cos we never knew he was in a band.

  • Love this song, if I haven't said so already. :)

  • hippies is not dead ♥

  • Fell in love with this song first time I heard it. Two years on it still brings a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat...love it.

  • Yeah 52 myself, these guys are real musicians good on cd better live.

  • Guy Garvey plays some wonderful stuff on 6Music, but this crowned the lot. I bought the album immediately, told everyone.

LS and Elbow have given me hope for modern English music. All but lost previously.

    And I ain't a youngster (58), but I AM a fussy devil.

  • this is a beautiful song,

  • i couldn't agree more, quaich14

  • i was listening to my fav, radio Controradio in Florence Italy while cooking n didn't t get the name of the band .. after this song I desperatly tried to get through the radio Dj and I got all the infos. since then I ve been listening 1 or 2 pcs a day of these spectacular band .. I love them ..I hope they ll show up in Italy sooner or later..

  • an brilliant song from an inspirational band. Remind me of Fleet Foxes and Sufjan Stevens - that is irrelevant The Leisure Society are their own selves producing an album of such simple, complex brilliance as The Sleeper . This track gives me the same feeling that Khatkhuda's Ghosts and Bright Eyes First Day of my Life a sense of loss, longing, sadness, joy and hairs standing up my neck, a lump in my throat. It is one of those songs. Good luck to these guys and great success. *****

  • I was driving along, leaves were swirling around the car like crazy, birds were being buffeted about and then THIS came on the radio.

I nearly passed out with the beauty of the moment.

What a track. Have bought the album. Beautiful

  • WONDERFUL.

  • I heard this beautiful song on the radio today - I had to stop what I was doing and just listen. I can't remember the last time a tune had that effect on me. Touches of Neil Young and Clifford T.Ward. Truly beautiful.

  • hotturners Its great isnt it when a tune grabs you like that, at the moment for me it is "Red" by Daniel Merriwether" another one was "February snow" by fell city girl

  • Yes - I really hope that The Leisure Society become a huge hit. It's a tough time that we're living in at the moment but I really would urge people to buy the CD 'The Sleeper' so that Nick Hemming achieves the success he deserves. I know that for a lot of us money is tight right now but it's a wonderful CD and well worth paying for - and not just downloading it for free. The Leisure Society deserves to get plenty of air play and tv coverage so that they don't slip under the net.

  • Reminds me of Simon Gurfunknel.

  • Beautiful. Yes very like Clifford T Ward and believe me that is a HUGE compliment. Lets hope they get a record deal soon.

  • this is why i love mark radcliffe! he keeps bringing such wonderful music to my ears!

  • Is it me or are The Leisure Society the first band in years to really write songs that mean something? This, and everything they sing, is utterly beautiful and honest.

  • Try going back to 1974 and listen to Clifford T Ward (now no longer with us unfortunately). His songs are very similar to this, even his voice is similar.

  • No - it's not just you. They are a superb band and I just hope they get the radio/tv coverage they deserve. Once they get the airplay I'm sure they'll be a huge success because once you hear their songs you just can't stop playing them - or is it just me!

  • this is so bootiful - i hope this music is in the afterlife...

  • Wow. More people should know about this...

  • Agree totally. Mark Ratcliffe and Stuart Maconie might have started something by promoting this record. Unfortunately, it is usually difficult to get regular airplay among the tired old music andthe rap and R and B that passes for music preferred by many younger people. There is a lot of good music on the fringes that struggles because record companies don't see commercial potential, so many good groups and artists get dropped. Most music listeners lack sophisticated tastes.

  • I heard it on Guy Garvey's Finest Hour - seems he has sophisticated taste. I really hope this band do well. They deserve it - this is a really beautiful song.

Also, I'm 'younger people'. I'm sixteen. So we're not all into nonsense... It's just that the ones who like decent music aren't anti-social enough to have it blaring out of their mobile phones on buses.

  • Good to hear there are 16 year olds listening to this stuff. Actually my daughters are 16 and one of them has introduced me to this and much other music before that, including Elbow, Fleet Foxes and many other bands and artists we have been to see.

  • Ahh, Elbow :) I made an Elbow fan out of my mum.

  • Saw Elbow last Autumn and it was the best gig I had been to, and I have seen Keane a few times and their live gigs are superb. My daughter agreed. Guy Garvey is also a fantastic guy, and he loves this Leisure Society song. Also saw Fleet Foxes and they were very cool, including going on about Obama winning the US Election!

  • Elbow are amazing live. Going to see them again next month. It was Guy's radio show that introduced me to this song... Haven't seen Fleet Foxes yet but hope to catch them some time.

2009 will be a good year for music!

  • If you like these check out The Hours. My favourite band at the moment. Very inventive songs, with proper lyrics and great sound

  • Thanks, davewam, I'll check out this band. Great that Nick from Leisure Society has been nominated among the big boys for an Ivor Novello award! My daughter and I saw the band do a promotional half hour in a Brighton record shop- she said Nick was quite shy. Good to see some nice people are starting to get recognised- eg Natasha Khan as Bat for Lashes, Guy Garvey fronting Elbow. More power to these and less to the arrogant Liam Gallagher types!

  • Yes - you're right they really are a lovely band and deserve to be a huge success. I went to see them twice - once in Birmingham a couple of weeks ago and then in Nottingham a few days later. I chatted to all of the band because I wanted to tell them how much I enjoyed the gigs and their CD 'The Sleeper' and to tell them that I can't stop playing their CD - (it's great for listening to in the car -it makes driving a pleasure!). They really are very humble. I love them.

  • Apparently, Nick had to take time off from his job in a warehouse to attend an interview with Guy Garvey at 6 Music, and took the call while at work. He is now admitting that if things do take off- let's hope they do- he'll probably have to leave his day job!

  • @xsvsx I agree, I know excactly how you feel! I'm 14 and I saw the Lesuire Society live :) Lucky me :P

  • i'm eighteen and i too listen to rap, r n b and pretty much every other genre under the sky. i also listen to this kind of stuff. in every music genre there will always be artists that have poetry and musical excellence to promote, you just have to look carefully; it's not all mainstream. and yes, a lot of popular tracks nowadays aren't clever at all. but still, it's all good, no? =]

  • It's incredibly beautiful. Thank you ever so much for posting it here, radmacradmac.

  • Love it!

  • Heard this on Radio 2, Mark Radcliffe's record of the week about a fortnight ago, very haunting, beautiful song. Thanks 4 posting.

  • Me too. I was driving through the countryside at the time, it was beautiful.

    -Rob

  • so beautiful!

  • awesome song!
