Work until you die slaves----Isnt that what the master says to his slaves-----Corporate greed is rampant in the health care buisness---It is health care for profit----Not a public service----Time to stand up and get rid opf the Corp-a-ROT--cracy
I look forward to the passage of SB 810, when everybody will have freedom of choice in health care, meaning everybody will be able to choose which doctor to go to instead of being limited to the ones their insurance company deals with. I have the just about the best coverage there is at Kaiser but with SB 810 I would have dental coverage as well, which I don't have now. This will be a win for everybody except insurance company executives.
There's so much misinformtation when it comes to single-payer healthcare. One heard the most is people don't want a bureaucrat between them and their doctor, problem is there already is one from the private companies. They demand a copay just to regularly see our doctors. They tell us we can't have preventative care in order to become healthier. Many more decisions are handled by them instead of us.
We need to fix this now, and empower CA residents to get true healthcare. Single-Payer for CA!
You are quite right that at some point health care must be rationed, and we currently ration health care based upon the ability to pay, either in health insurance premiums or in cash. Without either, their only recourse is government programs like Medicare or Medicaid. It is incorrect to say that health care delivery will be a monopoly under OneCare, however. While it is a publicly financed insurance system, the provision of care itself will be a private, free-market system as it is now.
@caonecare That is exactly right. In my lifetime I have lived for very long periods in Germany, France, the UK, Canada and Spain. I am an American citizen now living in British Columbia because I have comprehensive health care here. I am prevented from going home by being unable (and unwilling) to pay upwards of $2000+ monthly ( I am 67) forget other services like: drugs, long term care, Physiotherapy, homeopathy, acupuncture, and on and on... Dentistry? Forget it! ,
healthcare is a scarce resources, it must be rationed to avoid shortages. Under this onecare system the government would ration health services instead of price rationing. the state would decide healthcare services in the same way private insurance does today. the only differences is there would be no other options available to a person who is not satisfied with the service. this will create a corporatist monopoly on healthcare. do you want the same people who run the DMV to run healthcare?
With the single payer system in Ontario Canada every person entitled to health care has a card issued to them. Illegal immigrants don't have cards.
The old cards didn't have a photograph on them and so we ended up with more cards issued than people in the province. The problem was most noticeable in Windsor and St. Catherines, two cities closest to the border. It was discovered that the cards were being counterfeited and sold for $1000 apiece. All new cards now have photo id.
If California wants to develop they're own State run Health Care program then thats fine. As long as they don't force all californians on to it. And eliminate Freedom of Choice.
@FRSFreeStateES Why WOULDN'T you choose the single-payer system? Why would you choose a risky, expensive private plan over a cost-effective, risk-free public plan? Would you choose the private plan just to be spiteful?
The reason why I wouldn't want a Single Payer Health System which is what they have in Canada and Britain. Is because I don't believe there should be one option for where I get my Health Insurance or Health Care. In America we have choice in where we get these services. So does Germany, Switzerland, France, Japan and I'm sure a lot of other countries. At least with a Public Option americans would have the choice of whether to take that or not. Like in the countries I mentioned.
@FRSFreeStateES It's true look it up. The USA is the only country that has for profit health insurance for primary care. The last country to have this was Switzerland and in 1994 the outlawed it and reformed their system and all there insurance is non profit.
What would be a good source to check to see that every other country in the World, all 130 some odd countries other them America. Doesn't have any For Profit Health Insurance for Primary Care?
LOL thanks for the laugh, uh yeah I do have Freedom of Choice with my Health Care right now like a lot of other americans. What's Freedom of Choice, well Freedom of Choice. You answered your own question. The ability for one to decide for themselves where they get their services and from whom. Instead of government deciding for them.
@FRSFreeStateES Well you should be more specific on Freedom of Choice and how much do you pay to your Health Insurance because if you have the money then you can afford anything, any health plan but be careful if you ever need their services they might exclude you from having it and they will tell you that they don't know you as a member and never hear about you! and if you are not a member of a Union you'll need a Lawyer.
Freedom of Choice, goes without saying a simple concept. The Freedom to Choose a popular value in a Liberal Democracy like America. I realize its not a popular concept with socialists. And perhaps thats why your having trouble grasping it. Are you high, you really think I would release my Insurance Records as a Private Citizen on YouTube? With the Affordable Care Act, the insurance abuses your talking about will become illegal.
Get informed. All of the rest of the industrial developed world have a national single payer system. Non of these ditate who you can and cannot see. Think about: who in hell would a agree to that? Saying that's the case is fear-mongering.
Take your own advice before you dish it out. Not every country has a Government Run Healthcare System where the Public Sector owns the hospitals and the Health Insurance. Which is my whole point and I could lay those countries out for you if you want. A lot of countries have Public- Private Healthcare Systems.
It was a good thing that Jerry Brown didn't publicly say that he supported a single-payer system in california, otherwise the insurance companies would have took him down!
This is how Tommy Douglass did it in Canada. Province by province, it took along time but 1 province passed Single-Payer in 1946 and it was not untill 1966 that the whole country had it. We need to pass this state by state.

The profits by current health co's wouldn't put a dent in the cost. This is Socialism at its worst.
That woman is my wife. She is indeed covered by the LA Unified School District. But even though she had coverage, no doctor at St. Joseph's hospital would take her case because our health plan--Blue Cross California HMO--wouldn't pay enough for any of them to bother. They refused to admit her, and told her to go home and see her own doctor the next day.
I also am a former critical care RN. I have --DOUBLE CROSS-- AKA Anthem Blue Cross PPO. It is hideous to deal w/and I have pre-existing conditions which make me un-insurable. I'm stuck w/them as they machete benefits and now demand $1,036.00/month for -- they just raised the medical deductible unilaterally--from $1,500.00/yr. to $1,750.00. It's hard to sleep at times wondering how long I can afford to be ripped off like this. Everything in this video is totally true.
You don't get it-- she is covered by Blue Cross HMO-- St. Joseph wouldn't accept her insurance even w/a very serious injury. I used to be an ER RN. Some hospitals-- even not for profits-- will NOT accept SOME INSURANCE. LISTEN/WATCH AGAIN. I'm sure you'll understand if you listen again.
She was covered by Blue Cross HMO. SHE SUFFERED a horrific injury and sat in St. Joseph ER-- HER CARE WAS REFUSED B/C THEY WOULD NOT ACCEPT HER INSURANCE; REASON being IT WOULD NOT COVER ENOUGH OF THE COSTS!
LISTEN/WATCH AGAIN PLEASE PLEASE! SHE HAD INSURANCE -- YES-- IT WAS NOT ACCEPTED BY ST. JOSEPH ER AND SHE SUFFERED WAITING FOR CARE. HER BLUE CROSS HMO WOULD NOT COVER ENOUGH OF THE COSTS SO ST. JOSEPH HOSPITAL REFUSED HER CARE!
@jazziackeys My point here was that she is a gov't employee and based on that fact, you would think she would be covered. Do you know which insurance company has the highest denial rate by percentage? It's medicare. That's a trick question.
How does the FOX News-Making Channel get away with calling their insultingly obvious propaganda and opinions against health care reform "NEWS!"
Until YOUR life and well being has been turned upside-down by BIG INSURANCE delays and denials, you're spouting off about something which you know nothing about, yet!
If it's lies you want, listen to the corporate puppets at this Summer's (2009) "Town Hall Meetings". Or better yet, go back to your FOX News Channel, to hear what you want to hear.
We have to make sure that we get a liberal Democrat for governor next year, and then California can pass SB 840 and we can have Single-Payer at least in California! Once we have this well-designed system up and working, other states will follow. The ones who don't...well, that's their thing.
We've passed this twice, we can do it again. We just need a governor who won't veto common sense.
If we can't get a governor to sign it, we will have to do a voter initiative to get it through!
This is a video that all those who are so up in arms about the current health care legislation need to see... and of course, the view number below the video screen shows that few are seeing it. In the meantime, blowhard Right-Wing talking heads are encouraging the woefully uninformed to go out and scream down true discourse. I'm not giving up yet... but it's getting harder to stay positive. When are the sheeple going to wake up??? It's so frustrating.
I'm an internist who practised 20 yrs in Canada and 20 years in California.I left a great medical system to come to a broken inequtable frustrating system where medically uninformed insurers were deciding for me much inferior ways to care for my patients.
In Canada there are some waits for elective surgery, but If you have an emergent need for medical hospitalization or urgent surgery you move to the top of the line. Everyone is covered California should have it. It's the only thing that works
Dump private insurance companies, slash profits, then money goes towards patient care NOT corporate wealth... Single Payer is a simple solution, because it works.
At the same time we are ridding ourselves of these murderous, mobster for-profit "health" insurance companies, we have to insure through federal laws & regulations that all other American industry companies and American jobs stay in America, to build our economy and our tax base.
Amazing video, thanks! The fact is, we have the best healthcare providers/equipment/facilities in the world - but the worst ACCESS to it. Only the rich can really get that best care. As the video describes, even people WITH insurance can't get the care they need.
Excellent explanation of single-payer, the indisputable leader for healthcare financing. Publicly funded, privately delivered comprehensive healthcare is the way to go!
So if you make such a claim... just how are these statistics false? Liberal or otherwise we need intelligent analysis!
As a critical care nurse of 20 years, I assure you single payer medicare for all is the only solution. Do your homework- just making blanket political statements doesn't cut it these days.
In the video it says that Costa Rica has a better medical program than the US. As a nurse for 20 years that should've struck you. England is almost bankrupt because of it; Canadians are constantly flocking to the US for Medical treatment, Mexicans have killed the system. There is your intelligent analysis. This would be the worst thing to hit the US since homosexuality.
Review the study. Costa Rica does have better care as documented by health outcomes. England is socialism- NOT what we are proposing here. It is not single payer medicare for all. Canadians no longer flock to the US- this is old info- I used to hold this belief myself. That was Canada BEFORE they enacted medicare years ago. You sound racist and bigoted. This clouds your analysis and discredits your perspective. I'd leave it out and go for the facts. As the facts go-check them out- I do.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Next time you need a surgery, go down to Costa Rica and have it done. Then comment back and we'll see how that goes for you. I been all over South America and lived there. It saddens me that you have 20 years experience and I have more knowledge on the matter than you. I would'nt want you working on me.
P.S. Just cause I have morals doesn't mean I'm a racist or bigot. That is your liberal attack plan that I just don't give a shit about.
Glad you are basing your opinion on experience- good to share that. That doesn't makes you more knowledgeable-only on AN experience you had in A country. Perhaps you should not judge all points of what single payer is based on one thing. Open your mind and share your experience. Good to bring all sides to the table. I don't understand how morals relate to racism an bigotry. Again, let's talk facts and experience-is that too liberal?
I have 2 close relatives who did go to Costa Rica for surgery and major dental work. They were THRILLED with the level of care! Excuse me, but I think your mind is stuck closed.
Then you should run down there and see everyones teeth. In fact, you should go to England to see theirs. You are obviously a financial idiot. If you can't see why a person from America can take dollars to Costa Rica and get a good dentist then I can't help you. There are good dentist and doctors in all those countries for THE RICH CLASS you moron. You think everyone gets that type of care. I went to a great doctor in Chile because I was richer than most people there.
Surely you aren't saying that everyone in the US can afford medical and dental care. It is well known that at least 20% of us can't. And that most bankruptcies involve medical bills. And that we spend twice as much on medical care compared to most developed countries and yet have poorer health. You love to call people morons but maybe you are the uncivilized moron.
The reason the Brits have bad teeth is most of the fruit they get is in the form of jam. You need vitamin C to form strong teeth -- and they don't get it.
Why do you keep on about the Brits' teeth? Why are you so obsessed with this? They don't have bad teeth, I often go to the UK and I can assure you, the Brits have fine teeth, white, straight and without excessive gapping, maybe you saw a movie with Terry Thomas or an old Pogues concert with Shane McGowan. So now you think you're an authority on the English dental situation.
Single Payer is the only reform concept that has a true constituency. Thanks to Health Care for All-California and the CaliforniaOneCare coalition campaign for SB 810, Californians will not, cannot, accept anything less.

The profits by current health co's wouldn't put a dent in the cost. This is Socialism at its worst.

California , Leads the rest of the Country and always has.
Look at the state of the Economy?
It is a REPUBLICAN RECESSION. The Governor is an actor and republican like reagan was, same times ,same polices= same economy!
you Right winged kooks are the disease & cancer of this Country! hiding behind patriotism , while spewing ANTI~DEMOCRACIES.
Gov arnold, has been making sure those funds are misappropriated to the same people that screwed the working class, its the working class that helps!

The woman in the beginning of the video should be covered by the state of California because she's a teacher. Her story doesn't jive.
neobootsonious 2 years ago
That woman is my wife. She is indeed covered by the LA Unified School District. But even though she had coverage, no doctor at St. Joseph's hospital would take her case because our health plan--Blue Cross California HMO--wouldn't pay enough for any of them to bother. They refused to admit her, and told her to go home and see her own doctor the next day.

So gov't healthcare doesn't work?
neobootsonious 2 years ago
@LFTHAKINGMDUBC
Everything in this video is totally true.
jazziackeys 8 months ago
@neobootsonious
I'm sure you'll understand if you listen again.
jazziackeys 8 months ago
Respond to this video...
Neo,
She was covered by Blue Cross HMO. SHE SUFFERED a horrific injury and sat in St. Joseph ER-- HER CARE WAS REFUSED B/C THEY WOULD NOT ACCEPT HER INSURANCE; REASON being IT WOULD NOT COVER ENOUGH OF THE COSTS!
jazziackeys 8 months ago
@neobootsonious
LISTEN/WATCH AGAIN PLEASE PLEASE! SHE HAD INSURANCE -- YES-- IT WAS NOT ACCEPTED BY ST. JOSEPH ER AND SHE SUFFERED WAITING FOR CARE. HER BLUE CROSS HMO WOULD NOT COVER ENOUGH OF THE COSTS SO ST. JOSEPH HOSPITAL REFUSED HER CARE!
jazziackeys 8 months ago
@jazziackeys My point here was that she is a gov't employee and based on that fact, you would think she would be covered. Do you know which insurance company has the highest denial rate by percentage? It's medicare. That's a trick question.
neobootsonious 8 months ago
How does the FOX News-Making Channel get away with calling their insultingly obvious propaganda and opinions against health care reform "NEWS!"
Until YOUR life and well being has been turned upside-down by BIG INSURANCE delays and denials, you're spouting off about something which you know nothing about, yet!
If it's lies you want, listen to the corporate puppets at this Summer's (2009) "Town Hall Meetings". Or better yet, go back to your FOX News Channel, to hear what you want to hear.

how do they get away with all these lies and fabricated statistics?

Yankhadenough 2 years ago 2
At the same time we are ridding ourselves of these murderous, mobster for-profit "health" insurance companies, we have to insure through federal laws & regulations that all other American industry companies and American jobs stay in America, to build our economy and our tax base.

Amazing video, thanks! The fact is, we have the best healthcare providers/equipment/facilities in the world - but the worst ACCESS to it. Only the rich can really get that best care. As the video describes, even people WITH insurance can't get the care they need.
Single Payer Now!!

We need single-payer healthcare!

Do your homework- just making blanket political statements doesn't cut it these days.
onyxwear 2 years ago 3
In the video it says that Costa Rica has a better medical program than the US. As a nurse for 20 years that should've struck you. England is almost bankrupt because of it; Canadians are constantly flocking to the US for Medical treatment, Mexicans have killed the system. There is your intelligent analysis. This would be the worst thing to hit the US since homosexuality.
readyjojoy 2 years ago
Review the study. Costa Rica does have better care as documented by health outcomes. England is socialism- NOT what we are proposing here. It is not single payer medicare for all. Canadians no longer flock to the US- this is old info- I used to hold this belief myself. That was Canada BEFORE they enacted medicare years ago. You sound racist and bigoted. This clouds your analysis and discredits your perspective. I'd leave it out and go for the facts. As the facts go-check them out- I do.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Next time you need a surgery, go down to Costa Rica and have it done.

Excuse me, but I think your mind is stuck closed.
howjadoo 2 years ago 3
Then you should run down there and see everyones teeth. In fact, you should go to England to see theirs. You are obviously a financial idiot. If you can't see why a person from America can take dollars to Costa Rica and get a good dentist then I can't help you. There are good dentist and doctors in all those countries for THE RICH CLASS you moron. You think everyone gets that type of care. I went to a great doctor in Chile because I was richer than most people there.
readyjojoy 2 years ago
Surely you aren't saying that everyone in the US can afford medical and dental care. It is well known that at least 20% of us can't. And that most bankruptcies involve medical bills. And that we spend twice as much on medical care compared to most developed countries and yet have poorer health. You love to call people morons but maybe you are the uncivilized moron.

The reason the Brits have bad teeth is most of the fruit they get is in the form of jam. You need vitamin C to form strong teeth -- and they don't get it.
kimchalister 2 years ago
Why do you keep on about the Brits' teeth? Why are you so obsessed with this? They don't have bad teeth, I often go to the UK and I can assure you, the Brits have fine teeth, white, straight and without excessive gapping, maybe you saw a movie with Terry Thomas or an old Pogues concert with Shane McGowan. So now you think you're an authority on the English dental situation.

Great great film. The whole story in 14 minutes!
Single Payer is the only reform concept that has a true constituency. Thanks to Health Care for All-California and the CaliforniaOneCare coalition campaign for SB 810, Californians will not, cannot, accept anything less.
Thanks Dr. Don Schroeder and Elliot Gould!
