I'm sorry to say that this is an inaccurate interpretation. No parishioner from the church confronts the minister. It is his beloved Elizabeth who confronts him. She asks him to remove the veil and he refuses so she leaves him. There is a group of councilmen who attempt to confront him but they end up not being able to speak and judge the matter to grave for them to handle. Also he became very successful after word got around about the veil. People were drawn to the mystery surrounding it.
