hi there, after watching this video it comes to my mind that i can learn how to play violin.... i am in UK ...can u please suggest me one good violin for beginners ,,.............
Your videos are very helpful so happy i decided to click on you. Thanks so much for sharing your talent. I am a beginner hope to learn a few techniques from you ;)
We discovered you on YouTube about a year and a half ago, and soon after purchased your course on DVD for me and my children. We love you. I'm happy to report that there is music in our home today. Without you we never would have been able to start. With ALL MY HEART, and great feelings that words cannot explain.....Thank You. Please don't ever stop.
@LovelyAmberLight What a nice comment, thank you for taking the time to write to me, I really appreciate it. I am so happy to hear that you are playing and making music! Your thoughtful words brought a smile to my face and made my day a little brighter. It means a lot to me, thank you for writing.
Thanks!!!!!!!! i started to learn the violin but then i found my violin a few months later so i started to look for lessons on you tube thanks again! : )
I don't know if you can really help with this, but I can't seem to find a comfortable place for my violin to be.. With the shoulder rest, it seems too high and hurts my jaw bone, and without it, it's kind of low enough, but it hurts my collarbone waaay too much... Any advice?
@FlyingBugels Try adjusting the shoulder rest as low as it will go. If that doesn't work, you can try taking the chinrest off (not to be confused with shoulder rest) of your violin and see if that feels better. I played for a while with no chinrest and it was much more comfortable for me. You can also try leaving the chinrest on and take the shoulder rest off. Maybe you would be more comfortable with a sponge or pad under your violin instead of a shoulder rest.
Also try different brands of chinrests and shoulder rests. There are lots of options out there and you may just need to experiment until you find which ones work best for you.
@xxmotochick533xx First of all, let me warn you to stay away from the cheap 'new' violins on eBay, or ANY violin under $100 that's new. They are very difficult (if not impossible) to play. Look for a good used violin with a well known brand name such as Scherl & Roth, Knilling, Glaesel, etc. Stay away from cheap chinese violins. You can also get a new violin online from Southwest Strings or Shar. Their cheaper ones are Chinese made, but they are good quality and set up well.
Hi this is my first day playing violin... Ive been searching around everywhere for some help on how to produce any kind of good sound from my stroking. It is very airy and I cant find a solution anywhere. I was wondering if you have any suggestions? Thank you. ---Ive applied some rosin to my bow and my technique seems good.
@TheComplexTM Well that's pretty common for your first day playing! Just make sure you use little bow strokes in the middle of the bow, and make sure your bow comes to a complete stop on each stroke. If the sound is airy, than it could be that you are playing too close to the fingerboard, make sure your bow stays right in the middle between the bridge and fingerboard. You also may not be applying enough pressure. Working on the bow stops will help with that. Good luck!
In my studio, students learn the bow hold very quickly using the Bow Hold Buddies[tm] bow accessory. The accessory keeps the hand relaxed and fingers in place while we learn more music.
