If my life had a song, it would be this one. I have probably heard it more times then i have any other, My parents are big fans of Gabriel, and this song was their favorite. It has stuck with me ever since, and i always get a powerfull feeling of security and oddly enough "saudade" for my childhood as well. I doubt any song will ever have as much meaning for me as this one.
Great song. A pity they put a fucking great road through Solsbury Hill as a "means of easing traffic congestion". By the way Boris Johnson got his idea of the "Boris bikes" from this concert. It's a fact.
I will NEVER forget climbing up Solsbury Hill in Bath, England; I was late to the high school bus because I was busy looking for Peter!! NOI REGRETS!!
@giguchan In fact, that is one of the best bicycles in the world, it's a Moulton, an english bike that is the equivalent of rolex, rolls royce, cartier, etc of the bicycles.
@gogglesux Indeed you have really good bicycles in Italy I would love to have a steel Colnago. I'm mexican and the oldest bicycle brand we have was founded by the Italian Giacinto Benotto, over 80 years ago, they were really fine bicycles at the past, but now are really cheaply made with two models exceptions. But the Moulton is really set apart as it is a really a clever bicycle desing (the first full suspension bike of the history)
Hello there.. thanks for the reply. I am in the market for a new road bike. I have narrowed it down between a cannondale or a pinnerello. I think they are both made in china now, unles you want to spend 6k on a bike thats what you are going to get. I have been to the UK a few times yet i have never ridden one. I think the next time i visit there i will.
You get these visionaries Peter Gabriel, Bill Nelson, Kate Bush and they are so apart from the normal game of the record business. They have omni-directional minds. One Love Steve x

@dolphinsneu Solsbury Hill is NOT by Stonehenge. Some fool has said it's near Stonehenge. It's near(ish) but is in Bath. It's nothing to do with Salisbury which is a few miles south of Stonehenge.
You know, before I read that Peter wrote this as his thoughts on leaving Genesis, I thought the words were of a child learning s/he was being adopted! I still think it fits that scenerio nicely. Lovely song, and I wish I could have been on the front row of this concert!
@pandurate I am an Audio Engineer for 20 years plus and I can say he DID NOT lip sync this song. The one thing Peter never did was sing above his abilities. He never stretched his vocals. Thus he can ALLWAYS perform his songs to an almost perfect pitch and tone. If Taylor Swift and others didnt rely on the studio and auto tune....... they would sound like they do live..... crapy. Ok my rant is over. This is a FANTASTIC version of SH.
The days of analog video where the audio is always in perfect sync are over. Even if it came from an analog source, once it's converted (like for Youtube), the sync is compromised. If it's online, it's rarely perfect; get used to it people.
The bicycle thing is brilliant. It just brings out the childlike joy of this song. Did that make anyone else think of that scene from "Finding Forrester" where Sean Connery is outside for the first time in like fifty years, riding a bike and looking like a happy little kid? Great scene, better song.
he didnt say "you can keep my things they've come to take me home" :( i like that line, still he sings beautifully and i love the whole bicycle idea :)
