Theres something that has been bothering me lately.. which is the use of the word "hero" and "sacrifice". These words are thrown around too much and used in the wrong places. The only real heroes in life are dead. In relation to war, the only qualification for being a hero or making a sacrifice is death.
Don't tell me someone is a hero for coming home after getting shot, when the real hero jumped on a grenade. You can call yourself a hero if you like, just know that the real ones are dead.
He is lucky in many ways. He still has a penis unlike some other men. He didn't suffer from PTSD which is far worse than his illness because it rips you apart from the inside out and turns your own mind and spirit into a dark miserable dungeon where no family member can even reach. A stranger to self and family. Often the end is suicide.
Probably around the notion of "Those who live by the sword die by the sword." Killing people is killing people no matter if our government says its ok. He didn't go to Iraq to enjoy the scenery. A couple of hundred soldiers that came back from Iraq committed suicide. Hundreds of soldiers testified weeks ago about all the random killing of innocent people they saw and did including women and children.
Maybe from that context it could be understood why he probably said that,but what do I know..
