Before you try to convert that 12 string, ask yourelf this: Do I care if I screw up this guitar? If you answer no, then go for it. If you do it, I'd like to know how it turned out.
Your right, an appropriate question. . . the guitar was destroyed before given to me.
The bridge is gone leaving jagged surface tears, the inner bridge scalloped structures damaged and inadaquatly repaired. And other assorted incidents.
Can't hurt it much more, so am considering the transition. Would like to think it can be done with a little study in how to go about it. Will be done the road a bit, and will post when done.
@MrXcz I've just converted an old 12 string into a resonator, the tone is beautiful, you get harmonics from it you never thought possible, they've a sound all their own, but it took alot of hard work and carefull measurements.
@MrXcz Go for it, a 12 string resonator sounds beautiful, with all the harmonics they've a sound all their own. I converted my own to a resonator.Just make sure you get your bridge positioned the correct distance from the 12th fret.
It sounded alright, but the intonation was a big problem. There's no truss bar to adjust. It was a cheap guitar to begin with, so I really wasn't expecting much. But it was fun making it. Thanks for the interest.

Thxs! After sending I heard yours on the next vid, sounded good to me.
Have an old 12 string w many unsuccessful inadequate bridge repair attempts handed down to me.
Watching these fascinating utube projects to plan and launch my own resonator conversion.
Though not sure about a 12 string resonator, if done right might sound alright.
