Why did you start with the dark background and then erase it at the end? does it help you see what you're doing? or does it end up being part of the drawing? not trying to be critical, im just curious cause thats pretty amazing work.
Mr.Jack, were you erasing for the majority of your painting? It seems like you first had several layers underneath the primary orange you show at the beginning and use different brushes and pressures to relieve the darks. I love your piece and genuine talent.
this all pc painting is so fking AWESOME! I really, really want to have a talent or whatever you call it.... Big envy from my side to all who can paint!
i would say nice job, but it is not painting, and it requires less skill than the otherwise ''artist'' would have required, and should be required for the viewer as well, to simply admire the piece of work.
it would be much more simple to appreciate if it had been made by hand, and without the aid of a simple program that leaves no brushstrokes and little signs of personal style.
that is very good, but i think its a bit to serpent-like. in the original starcraft cintematics the hydralisks had a slight mammal-like feature to them, because they actually originate from grazing animals from some planet that were mutated by the zerg. also that tail is way to long, starcraft hydralisks are less orange but more tan, unless that is a hunter killer.
hehe i never could make out how hydralisks and zerglings looked like exactly in starcraft1, but thankfully we now have starcraft2 concept art as reference.
i really like your technique its more like in real life painting style 5*
the "pretty much " part was what im talking about ... of course you can make out the basic shape ... but not exactly i never did really see how there jaw comes and connects to there neck and other small DETAILS not basic shape ...
well this isn't the sc version of hydralisk so ur statement is invalid. besides, hydralisk was shown in one of the cutscenes and was in many blizzard's artwork and stuff.
I don't know, a lot of the skills that one needs in Photoshop are perfectly (if not better) learnt traditionally. . . You don't need to be working digitally to get the hang of lighting or rendering or basic compositional balance.
And I have to say zooming is only good in the details, as a general rule. . . it's best to avoid to begin with.
(the only thing that's considerably better imo is the undo key)
@MrJackArt the only thing you benefit is the speed at which you can move pigment around digitally opposed traditionally, but completely true what he says
the hydralisk! =))) want to see it in reallife? :P this is the beginning of a full size statue /watch?v=M2t7r2MmrbU

It's a great rendition of a hydra, but not really that accurate. (Sorry for being such a dousche on that)
random hydra fact: funny thing about the hydras is that hydras actually spit out bits of their spine, not acid.
Real cool though

Guy: i was talking to the hydra!
Me: Yes doctor, all of my dreams are like that...

thats amazing, when i was young i never understood how it wa spossible to draw things in such a "realistic" way.
may i ask you how old you are?
i could imagine that something like this requires years of experience.
where do i start of i want to learn how to draw like that in photoshop? i already am experienced in photomanipulation (in photoshop cs3)
