John Lee Hooker played Delta Blues, in his own inimitable style. John Jr. is going his own way with the Chicago sound. People want him to be his dad, but he's obviously going his own way. Good for him.
I find it funny that people who probably can't even play music are flaming this guy for not being his father. If you want to hear his dad, then leave the "JR" off your youtube search and take your hate elsewhere.
Love the video. I am a huge fan of the Blues and I am only 27 years of age and I was inspired by guys like Albert King, John Lee Hooker, Howlin Wolf, and Jimi Hendrix. I think that his son John Lee Hooker Jr. is the truth. I have to check out the whole album to see what he is working with. Killer Song and Guitar work. Classic Chicago and Delta Blues. Well Done.
I saw him in Comox (bc canada) and i have to admit i really enjoyed the show. i bought the cd and listened to it again and again. He's got a good sense of humour which is aparent in lyrics. funny guy
Got a chance to see him in Roanoke, Va this summer. He's a great showman. He took time before and after his set to stand and talk to folks. My wife and I spoke with him for a good 10 minutes and he came across as a genuine guy. No star attitude... just a regular guy.
He aint his dad, he is himself. JLH was, as Van the Man said once: "a window into the past" - no one but no one can replace JLH - the one and only, and kudos for JLH Jr not doing that but being his own man with his own style, it's blues ffs.
he is not his dad people. this is "New Age Blues" his dad was the orignal blues. a style yu cant beat. john lennons son is not like his dad with music either
So my girl asks me "What kind of music do you like?" The Blues baby . "You mean R&B?" Nah baby. I'm talking about the blues, you now an old black guy with his banjo, sitting on the porch of his shack way down in the south talking about the girl that left him. You know the blues. "Oh you mean kinda like what I'm gonna do to you" Son of a bitch - Someone pass me my banjo
you guys can bag on it all you want but it still good i mean yeah its difrent from what his dad did and iam a huge fan of his father but hes just tryin to make his way in the world
Well, not all bad but no good as well. Anyway certainly it's not f****ing shit... Still it's the Blues. Or kinda. And I don't like junior's music neither!
Its a shame for this guy. Constantly living in his fathers shadow. People seem to just keep saying he's shit but in no way is he trying to copycat his dad. I think he's ok.
F@#king garbage. If this guy ever did LIVE the blues, he just looking for a pay check with pice of shit. The talent and the SOUL died with his dear ole' dad.
Merci for Posting this... His website deserves attention also... He's been there/done that in the Game alright... the Real Deal unlike the pussy ass "Blues Purists" here who can ALL go f**k off in their diss-respect of this fine Man who like his Daddy has LIVED the Blues.
Amour... this Man knows the Game like his Daddy John Lee Hooker... You won't understand Truth reading Martin Luther King or Malcolm-X... read Iceberg Slim's "Pimp: The Story of my Life" and then You'll know about the Game and Blues and even the mind of Prez Obama the Pimp too... f**k yeah Baby
i guess you people miss the old sound, i mean how the sound use to sound back then, it was warmer, just straight instruments and less dinmics in other words not digitalized, i bet this man sounds good on a acoustic concert and that the song you think is bad for blues, has other potential meanings,NO?
@sunnydayinperth Exactly, they said the same thing about Hank Williams Jr, but with time, he was able to step out of his fathers shadow. Give the kid some time, he's got potential for his own career!
I give him credit for not going the route of modern hip hop, r & b, "rock" etc., but this is too slick, too overproduced. Guess the old days are over.
Man..I dunno where U from...being black..american...and a descendant of John Lee H.,...well...nice vid...but for me; I just came out of 17 yrs penitentary...heard your faththers things...(white man)...there is an axe man...going deep into the swamp...no colour asked...only the rough men.
John Lee: All I can say is "GREAT!" Great tune/vocals/instrumentals (love the brass); and great video! Clever and unique, congratulations, simply outstanding, can't wait for the CD!
@FrankVPhoto I find this a bit sad. His father was great, but jr has a different sound. You must also remember, Senior made his music decades ago, no wonder the sound changes. I find this song quite good!

Pretty ordinary. I was disappointed. If he wanted to completely depart from his father's style then he should have recorded under another name.
