Everyone can relax they found the car!...Needs some suspension work, shocks brakes...brake pads, lining, steering box, transmission, rear end,... also maybe some rings, mufflers....a little wiring!
My understanding was that it was Dan Akroyd's own car before the movie - it looked pretty much like it first appears as a tired black combination coach. They did it up for the film as Ecto 1 then it sat for a while until Ghostbusters II when it was redone as Ecto 1A - there are a number of differences between the two versions.
During filming the engine blew half way across a NY bridge and they towed it away and dumped it on a back lot until the restoration.
It's likely the car was bought, run through a body shop who just covered up the bad spots with thick bondo, hit the mechanic who got it to run and stop, and then went in to be 'decorated' for the movie. It only needed to last a few months for the shoot, and somtimes cars are wrecked or modified-why go whole hog to make it showroom perfect if they are gonna just hack a hole in the interior to weld a camera mount on, or to the hood. Or a Jump that bends the whole car?
@findnpost "then you see 0.41 - 0.42 andif you don't know what he's doing it suggested it was a bodge-job! " What's so wrong with tapping off to prevent overspray? this is a very standard practice to keep paint off parts or places you don't want paint on.
@thebluemaggot that was not what i was suggesting... i guess it wasn't expressed well by myself in my orginal post. It looked like he was putting tape on to cover and then the revel shows a clapped out ecto 1. that was the amusement for me.

0:44 I can’t believe they let Ecto-1 get into that state in the first place.

why would such an iconic vehicle be left alone to rot away in such a way? :(((

HOW COME the studio guys leave in such deplorable condition the trademark object of one of entertainment history's most successful franchises EVER???
I've seen old guys, not even rich, maintain their 50's cars in pristine state!
NO EXCUSE for you Columbia!
You're GREEDY and if not for the new games and possible movie, you'd probably scrap it!
You could not care less for the fans!
However, congratulations for the Cinema Vehicles Services, for restoring part of our memories as kids.

I hope she will be in GB3 and not some modern shit

@oldschool619619 I say if GB3 DOES have a more modern car that Ecto-1 at least retires with DIGNITY.

is there a longer version of this video?

@pauldonald yes, it's on the Blu Ray. It's around 15 minutes long, and really a great documentary.
