I always use autoloader, ECM jammer and heatseekers as a pilot.
And autoloader, flares and TV missile as a gunner.
Lets 95% of the times i fly, me and my friend are communicating in ventrilo. Dont really see the effective reason by flying chopper without talking communication.
And if we got a good jetpilot in our team. We are immortal in the viper!
@willepille123 Awesome! There's no substitute for teamwork and communication. If you work together and communicate, there's no stopping you! If more people were inclined to work together and communicate in BF3, the experience would be a lot more fun!
@ripflick QsGREG is right about the laser designated missiles; they can't be deterred by the IR flares. There's also another reason: AA missiles will still hit you, even if you pop your flares, if the enemy is really close to you when they fire. I have an example of this is Quick Tip 8 (the link is in the "Video Responses" section of this video).
ECM jammer does throw off rockets that have already been sent your way, but only if you move out of the path they were on when fired.
Also for the lone wolf setup, you should put flares on your gunner slot even though you don't have a gunner. In a pinch you can switch into the gunner seat, throw that second set of flares, then switch back. You lose some maneuverability for a couple of seconds, but it's better than taking rockets to the chin.

@USSWISCONSIN64 Yeah, some people want the jets all to themselves; they can't stand it when another person takes one. When I'm on a team with people like that, I just let them have the jets and use a tank or a jeep or just go on foot.

@Littlebasterd123 Guided missile is definitely better, especially for beginners. The TV missile requires a lot of communication with the pilot to use correctly; and even then, it's difficult to use.
i have found good setup Pilot laser painter flares and guided Gunner stealth flares and guided rocket this works well because when locking onto other choppers you paint them for your gunner to shoot with guided also you can paint tanks for your gunner to shoot with guided missiles
@TheRealMossi My friends aren't great at the gunner. But I have some. I mostly have a gunner but can't communicate. (Either friends in different team or gunner has no mic). So I can't use a jammer and let my gunner do flares. Can't trust him, have to do it myself. So still wondering what good setup would be. And can't decide what's better. Stealth or Air Radar. @MOGULMANv Thanks, I'll check out your videos. As for your questions, I'd suggest sticking with stealth if you don't know what your gunner's set-up is. If you're an experienced chopper pilot, you really don't need proximity scan or air radar. I put air radar in my set-ups, because in those set-ups, you either don't need stealth, or the gunner provides stealth. Stealth will help you a lot more, just send a message to the gunner and tell him to SPOT, that way you won't need air radar.

@Skatermonkey5 Yeah, this tip was originally intended for beginners; to show them what the helicopter offered in terms of upgrades and gadgets. I do discuss flying low with the below radar. But, as you said, it's more difficult to continuously fly low, so I didn't want to push that on people who were new to the game. I have a chopper tutorial video where I discuss some flight tactics.
@MichaelBLaursen To use them both, you either need a gunner or, if you're solo, you need to switch to the gunner's seat to get access to those flares (I cover this in Quick Tip 9). It'll work better if you use Flares (gunner) > ECM Jammer (pilot) > Flares (gunner), because this makes the gunner responsible for evading AA missiles, so the pilot can focus on the enemy. The pilot only needs to hit the ECM jammer if the enemy attempts back to back lock-ons.
for lone wolf leave a squad so you can switch between gunner and pilot when flying and use ecm jammer on pilot and flares on gunner so when you're high up you can use the ecm jammer and if they get a lock in those 4 seconds switch to the gunner seat and deploy flares. The only way to die is from crashing, unguided missles like rpgs or rocket pods or tv missles. Jets can also crash into you so avoid that. ur welcome if anyone finds this helpful. if you find it helpful thumbs it up so its visable
TIP! if ECM is deployed and the missile flies into the chaff it will blow up. Helo vs helo suggestion is to pop chaff and back up and lower altitude slightly. No guided rockets in tutorial? :( great video

Some really usefull stuff in here! Thanks. I find the tv missile is very difficult to use without communucation with the gunner, also if people are being smart theyll lase targets that can be locked onto with guided missile for an additional 20-30% damage so a definate disable (80%) on tanks and oneshot on any aircraft :)
@pingopete I agree... The TV missile is very difficult to use without communication. But, I guess that's a good thing, because if it was easy to use, people would be using it like the predator missile from COD and other people would complain that it's over powered.

um how do i go to the vehicle custom? i mean do i just go to the customization when a match starts or when the next round is ready to be started. I have it for PS3
@NinjaSharkSwaah You can get to the vehicle customization screen 2 ways: 1. from the main menu > go to my soldier > customize > you'll have 3 options "Kit", "Land", "Air" > pick air and you'll see the jet and choppers > pick one to customize.
2. You can customize from in game > at the start of a match, or after you die, and you're waiting to spawn, press square (PS3) or X (Xbox) > you'll have the same 3 options again > pick air and customize... Good luck!

@HumanoLikeU Sorry man, I don't understand your question. If you're asking how low you have to fly with "Below Radar" to avoid enemy missiles from locking onto you: you have to get pretty low, almost to a point where the chopper is touching the ground. I'd say you have to be about 10-15 feet off the ground.
Useful video :) But i have two questions: Im playing on Xbox and how as u gunner i can shoot IR Flares? LB do nothing and i have them equipped. And as a pilot i have a proximity scan equipped, but i still have minimap in the corner. How to change it?
@gruchus Thanks for the comment! If you have flares equipped, they should deploy; listen for the beep indicating that they've been deployed. I don't know why they wouldn't deploy. As for the proximity scan, it doesn't change your minimap; only AIR RADAR changes the minimap into a circular, more comprehensive map (as shown in the video). The PROXIMITY SCAN only scans a small radius around the chopper and reveals any enemy aircrafts/vehicles within that area on the minimap.
If i only i had a buddy like you, i am very good chopper pilot i have gotten every unlock, and i also know how to land a chopper when its being disabled, i rarely get shot down, however i am always a lone wolf, its so shit when no one has your back. i have gotten 300+ chopper kills

@DyVir Below radar only prevents air to air missiles from locking on to you (i.e. heatseekers from other aircrafts). It doesn't protect you from foot soldiers who use stingers/IGLAs. Also, if the enemy laser designates your aircraft, Below Radar won't help either.

what works the best for me no matter what stratergy is the laser painter. It helps me spotting targets and makes it easy to keep track of the veichle you want to destroy.
I've destroyed TONES of tanks with that stratergy when using the laser painter to spot veichles for me, you all should try it out!!
Once the laserpainter has something on target, spot it and then keep your aim on it so it gets tagged and unload your rockets on the veichle
when you're lone wolving you should do seat switching (when you're flares / ecm is cooling down switch 2 the gunner seat , use flares and switch back)

@a7xfan1345 That depends on different situations. In general, it's good to wait 'til you're fully locked onto and the enemy has launched his missile at your chopper: You'll hear a long beep indicating the lock on and then very rapid beeps indicating that the enemy has fired the missile and it's coming at your chopper. This is the best time to pop the flares. But, you have to time it right and pop it before the missile reaches you.

@MichaelBLaursen To use them both, you either need a gunner or, if you're solo, you need to switch to the gunner's seat to get access to those flares (I cover this in Quick Tip 9). It'll work better if you use Flares (gunner) > ECM Jammer (pilot) > Flares (gunner), because this makes the gunner responsible for evading AA missiles, so the pilot can focus on the enemy. The pilot only needs to hit the ECM jammer if the enemy attempts back to back lock-ons.

for lone wolf leave a squad so you can switch between gunner and pilot when flying and use ecm jammer on pilot and flares on gunner so when you're high up you can use the ecm jammer and if they get a lock in those 4 seconds switch to the gunner seat and deploy flares. The only way to die is from crashing, unguided missles like rpgs or rocket pods or tv missles. Jets can also crash into you so avoid that. ur welcome if anyone finds this helpful. if you find it helpful thumbs it up so its visable

TIP! if ECM is deployed and the missile flies into the chaff it will blow up. Helo vs helo suggestion is to pop chaff and back up and lower altitude slightly. No guided rockets in tutorial? :( great video

Some really usefull stuff in here! Thanks. I find the tv missile is very difficult to use without communucation with the gunner, also if people are being smart theyll lase targets that can be locked onto with guided missile for an additional 20-30% damage so a definate disable (80%) on tanks and oneshot on any aircraft :)

@pingopete I agree... The TV missile is very difficult to use without communication. But, I guess that's a good thing, because if it was easy to use, people would be using it like the predator missile from COD and other people would complain that it's over powered.

@NinjaSharkSwaah You can get to the vehicle customization screen 2 ways: 1. from the main menu > go to my soldier > customize > you'll have 3 options "Kit", "Land", "Air" > pick air and you'll see the jet and choppers > pick one to customize.
2. You can customize from in game > at the start of a match, or after you die, and you're waiting to spawn, press square (PS3) or X (Xbox) > you'll have the same 3 options again > pick air and customize... Good luck!

@HumanoLikeU Sorry man, I don't understand your question. If you're asking how low you have to fly with "Below Radar" to avoid enemy missiles from locking onto you: you have to get pretty low, almost to a point where the chopper is touching the ground. I'd say you have to be about 10-15 feet off the ground.

Useful video :) But i have two questions: Im playing on Xbox and how as u gunner i can shoot IR Flares? LB do nothing and i have them equipped. And as a pilot i have a proximity scan equipped, but i still have minimap in the corner. How to change it?

@gruchus Thanks for the comment! If you have flares equipped, they should deploy; listen for the beep indicating that they've been deployed. I don't know why they wouldn't deploy. As for the proximity scan, it doesn't change your minimap; only AIR RADAR changes the minimap into a circular, more comprehensive map (as shown in the video). The PROXIMITY SCAN only scans a small radius around the chopper and reveals any enemy aircrafts/vehicles within that area on the minimap.

@DyVir Below radar only prevents air to air missiles from locking on to you (i.e. heatseekers from other aircrafts). It doesn't protect you from foot soldiers who use stingers/IGLAs. Also, if the enemy laser designates your aircraft, Below Radar won't help either.

what works the best for me no matter what stratergy is the laser painter. It helps me spotting targets and makes it easy to keep track of the veichle you want to destroy.
I've destroyed TONES of tanks with that stratergy when using the laser painter to spot veichles for me, you all should try it out!!
Once the laserpainter has something on target, spot it and then keep your aim on it so it gets tagged and unload your rockets on the veichle

@a7xfan1345 That depends on different situations. In general, it's good to wait 'til you're fully locked onto and the enemy has launched his missile at your chopper: You'll hear a long beep indicating the lock on and then very rapid beeps indicating that the enemy has fired the missile and it's coming at your chopper. This is the best time to pop the flares. But, you have to time it right and pop it before the missile reaches you.
