The shop's name is Ryno Mobility & they're located at Pinellas Park, FL & can be reached at (800) 799-4806 The only Crew Cab they currently do is the Dodge Mega Cab, which the whole floor is lowered & you enter & exit through the rear passenger door. They also do 2 & 4wd ext cab Silverado & Sierra 1500, 2500 & 3500's including Duallys as well as the 2011+ Ford F150 ext cab, Chevy Suburban & GMC Yukon XL. Vocational Rehab & VA will both cover their work.
Just started looking into options for my K2500crew cab. I originally thought they would be able to keep me out of my chair but I guess My luck ran out. So now it's time to adapt. Can you tell me how much that cost? Everything I have looked at so far is just so expensive. Any info would be very appreciated.
@WillInThe04Ranger well idk of anyone that does the Rangers which I'm assuming you have since thats the name on here. But they're a bit small for this conversion, but if you look at the custom painted truck in my videos you can get that done as long as you have the ability to transfer from a chair to the vehicle and such.
thanks alot, Am new to this baffling world and needed to get a lift for gmc yukon. cannot afford to buy a new vehicle... or a ramp to get out of the house for that matter. You helped point me in the right direction
@janlynnv well I got the smaller of the 3 motors that come in the 2500HD, which is the 6.0L. Tank is 26 gallons and it usually gets between 9.5-10.5mpg in the city from my calculations. Which yea, it's no fun. Which is why I try not to drive much these days while I'm unemployed & the gas keeps changing. But thanks. :)
@janlynnv now keep in mind.. thats CITY mpg.. not the Highway that everyone always advertises on tv and such. And living in the Tampa, Fl area.. there is lots of traffic & stopping and going.
@syderpaintballer Well the remote works from quite a ways away, so I can usually stay dry while opening everything. And the doors aren't as slow as they are in the video. As addition of the music slowed the video down a touch and I also have the newer actuators the shop is using now which are faster as well.
@niner98Yes, that's pretty much how I felt when I accidentally found their website before I got something setup to drive. But check the shops site in the vid info for more info on what they do & let them know Charles Register sent you. They have dealers all over the US and work with all vocational rehabs, VA's & insurance companies.
But it holds up fine in crash tests. They crash test every new model truck they start using from what I understand. That way vocational rehabilitation will cover the conversions, because they aren't going to put you in something that will hurt you.
no, the addition of music slowed down the video. The original actuators were a bit slow but the shop has since then started using another companies which are a bit faster. There is another video of my truck on a beach/causeway with no music added that will show you the speed of the system with the new actuators.
Of course not. Now only if I could save up the $1k I need for the 4" spindle lift kit w/out having to spend a chunk of it as soon as its all saved up. It's going to get some new rims & 38" tires if that ever gets done. But thanks man, Keep on truckin!
Hell yeah man nothin keeps a man from his truck! Even better you wanna lift it!! And its hard to save money lol, been tryin to save for a lift on my chevy tahoe.
Yea, I've even managed to get it parked where it would have the additional ground clearance of the 4" lift + 38" tires. And the lift still had plenty of travel left. I had a 2dr z71 Tahoe w/3" body lift & 33x12.50 Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radials when I had my accident. That thing would go about anywhere. I miss off-roading.
Nice man im going to check out your page now, if you dont have vids of it you should make some. Wish my tahoe was a 2door, i have a snowplow on it now i just put it on for this year. I'm going to take it off and probably lift it.
I'm sorry about the accident, but looks like your making the best of it :) You can still go offroading right?
Thanks, I keep trying to save up money to get it lifted another 4" and put on 38" tires which is all being done at the shop that did the conversion. But every time I get the money saved for the spindle lift kit something unexpected happens and causes me to spend the money.
Well the video is a few years old & I have a new chair now that sits me lower. I'm 6'0 and was in a chair with 26" wheels when video was shot which is what caused me to sit high. But if I was the first car at the light I sometimes had to duck down to see the light unless it was across the street. But I sit a few inches lower now and have no issue.
No Fords due to location of the gas tanks. But they DO modify the Dodge Ram MegaCab's that came out. On those they are able to lower the COMPLETE floor like a van & you come in the rear passenger door. It's a VERY nice setup.
Yes, it locks into the unit in the floor. That is an EZ-Lock unit that Ryno Mobility turned in the "SlideLock" & had crash tested & approved for use by the EZ-LOCK company. It move so that it isn't in the way entering or exiting the truck.
There is a little over 57" between the floor & roof. They can get 58 though with the 2500's. And that was filmed when I had the 26" wheels on my quickie 2 chair which caused me to sit a little high. I've changed to 24" since and have plenty of room & spike my hair up from time to time w/no issue.
btw, I'm 6'0" and have a torso that is just long enough to keep my from pushing my body off a surface which made transfering rather difficult. Hence the reason I got this truck done. And my arms are approx 3ft long. lol
I'm 6'4, so I don't think that it would work very good, unless I lowered the floor in my f250. you've prolly seen my vids of me gettin in my truck... Did you have to pay for all this out of pocket?
Well the shop doesn't do the fords due to the gas tank being right under the driver side of the truck. Where as the tank on my truck is under the bed. But they also do the 03+ ext cab Nissan titans & 03+ext cab GMC/Chevy 1500,2500 & 3500 series. As well as the new Dodge Mega Cab which their able to lower the COMPLETE floor in like you would a van.
And I paid for the truck but Vocational Rehab paid for the work to be done so I could return to the workforce.
Think it's bad ass now, give me a few months and it'll be 5" higher. And then it's going to get some 37" tires probably. lol And yes, the lift does have enough travel for that. The shop that built the truck is the one putting the spindle lift on it for me. The owner of the shop worked for braun for about 15yrs before starting Ryno Mobiity. So he knows what they can and cannot do.
He would be advised against that, as the wheelchair ramp mechanism greatly reduces the ground clearance. This is an expensive vehicle that, while not fragile, isn't suited for rough offroad use. Plus, if he gets offroad and stuck, he can't simply get out and wheel back home!
I go down a dirt road or causeway that has a smooth path from time to time. But as for off in the woods, soft sand and mud goes, it doesn't get anywhere near that stuff. As it would void the warranty on that lift if it were to get submerged in mud and/or water or anything.
Before my accident I used to take my tahoe offroading on a regular basis though. And as for getting myself out of anything, that wouldn't be too hard, just a call away. I have a friend who runs an offroad recovery system who I used to work for. And he has a 57'GMC lifted way up with a towing boom in the bed as well as an old Jeep Commanche. Both of which are riding on 40"+ offroad tires & also have winches.
don,t let any thing stop you i drive a cherokee and i go offroad always but with friends we go desert safari in the weekends its great thing to do even i,m a wheelchair user .good vid .
Thats what I need. I'm a 17 year old with a disability, and learning how to get in the vehicle was one of my major concerns about eventually driving. Thanks for the video.
Thats neat, but I think it takes a long time, plus your head is really close to the ceiling, and i think it just wouldnt be right driving that way. I have a F250 superduy 4x4, and i get in on the passenger side and tear apart my chair, then just sit in the drivers seat, takes about as long as this lift does and I dont have limited ground clearance....
i bet that wasnt cheap to buy i wld love one of them being a full time wheelchair user myself i drive but have to transfer and dismantle my wheelchair which is a bit of a pain in the butt but we do what we have to do take care
