  • any1 know how to fix it if the down direction isnt working? if my characters in my games arent moving downward?

  • lol, the joystick is a little stiff

  • @nerf9560 It's supposed to be stiff! That's how I like it! Fits my hand better. Wait I'm only pouring gas on your fire am I?

  • you should pick up the POINT-MASTER atari 2600 controller and review it. i have 2 of them, the only difference is that the button is on the joystick, and the controller base is slightly round at the edges. IMO, its better than the the regular 2600 controller. the only down side is that ive heard its not compatible with some games, although it works perfect with all mine. (i have asteroids, space invaders, Pele's soccer, football, breakaway 4, combat, night driver, donkey kong, and freeway)

  • VIRAL DOG!!

  • thats an awsome dog

  • @ThatGiantRussian He's not bored, it's his job to review stuff.

  • i dislike this, because the dog

  • @Ziikuje you must not be a happy person

  • Just got the Atari 2600 today. Dont have the right outlets cause i got it fomr my graqndma and my great great grandma that lives wiht my grandma has another i might go and get because it has the original controlers 25 ganes and the cables. Sweet sweet victory.

  • i cant help but post this comment, im too excited im getting an atari junior in the mail tomorrow and im pumped (having never owned an atari)

  • I hate this controller. Why? THE JOYSTICK IS TOO STIFF

  • @Xaiv55 I like it that way. Works good.

  • @wildsmiley It just doesn't fit me that good. But everyone has opinions.

  • One stick.

    One button.

    That is all ye need.

  • @gillianorley My NES begs to differ...

  • I use my phone for atari 5200 emulator.

  • Is it me or you upload a new video every 5 minutes? Been looking at your videos for half an hour now and in the beggining it was 2,001 now its 2,005!

  • the rubber over the stick on mine always came off and i remember how stiff it was... this comment was not intended as sexual as it sounded when i read it back ...

  • And when they broke, which they often did, they were easy to fix.

  • I had an Atari 800XL but we didn't have a joystick as my father didn't want us playing games. Then, my mother bought one of these joysticks. That was my beggining as a gamer. I am still one.

The joystick tended to fail, the small metal tabs that made the contacts wore off or break after some time under heavy use. They could be somewhat repaired to a semi working state.

  • could u use that for like mrs pacman on the genesis

  • they should make 2600 USB joypads! like they did with the NES controller and also the SNES

  • @evilgamers1

also theres a sega saturn usb gamepad

  • @evilgamers1 There's already a USB snes joypad. It's called the PS3 Sixaxis controller.

  • @Quartrez ook i did not get that at all. are you one of those people who believes that the ps1 controller ripped off the snes one? if you are than im not gonna bother saying anymore.

  • @evilgamers1 Woah lol. I'm not saying the ps1 controller ripped off the snes one, I'm just saying it's highly inspired by it. Even SONY says the SNES controller has been one of their lead inspiration for the design of their controller. It has roughly the same feel as an SNES controller, which I love. What I meant is, even though there is no USB SNES controller yet, the PS3 Sixaxis controller is USB, and is as close as it can get to feel like an SNES controller. I'm not hating on anything.

  • @Quartrez sony admits it? ok good point but you`re wrong on one thing. there is a snes USB joypad if you go on ebay and search for usb joypads you can find snes joypads for sale but yes the sixaxis is similar in feel and is USB

  • @evilgamers1 Yeah, after I posted my comment I thought that they was probably already snes controllers out there, my bad. But I still prefer the Sixaxis gamepad, be it because of the shoulder buttons that are more responsive than on the SNES controller. At least, that's the case on my controllers.

  • I will kick myself if the 2600 is worth anything in the future because i gave my one away.

  • @blarson12 There worth more in personal memorys than in cash.

  • @bazfanv2 Yes thats true but i wonder if anyone would pay big bucks for one?

  • was this the first contoller with a controll stick?

  • My dad broke 2 of his controllers by playing Decathlon back then^^

  • Atari 2600 joystick + ball top = EPICNESS!

  • fuck!!! i want a fucking atary!!!! :D

  • That was my favorite controller for my C64. They were very durable.

  • How long is the wire of an Atari 2600 controller?

  • Atari 2600 controller is one of my favorite controllers!!

Its just so simple! Just put into a box a one button and a joystick,

    its still cool!!

  • i love atari their magic was awesome i wish they would re vam the 2600 and sell it

  • @goooooooism Look up Atari Flashback 2, and Atari Flashback 2+

  • They need to start making these controllers for Xbox 360 and PS3. I have an Xbox 360.

  • this comment is gonna get random thumbs up.

  • @rollercoastermaniac2 random thumbs up comments don't work anymore.

  • Grew up on these bad boys. You really had to break these in to make them work well.

  • Atari rules!!!

  • this is my second favorite controller, my first is the n64 controller, but i also grew up with the n64. other people say it's too complicated.

  • @Spazmify I grew up with the NES. lol.

  • @DukeNukem2020 i wish i did, but i'm about 17 years off

  • We had to buy the system 4 times before we got one where the joystick didn't break the first week, and my brother and I weren't even rough with it. They must've gotten tired of us coming back to the store over and over again with broken merchandise. :p

  • I love his dog

  • That exact contrlloer also plugs into a sega genisis system!!!!

  • I would see you review an ATARI 2800 Controller, if you can get one. XD

  • if you twist the atari stick, it loosens it for more manuverability

  • when you said gripping the entire controller I wasn't thinking about an arcade.

  • @mariomaruf theres a reason why its called a joystick :)

  • Broken Atari 2600 controller + phone = Atari 5200 controller

  • @world295 new atari 5200 controller*

  • @world295 HAHA Funniest thing I've read in a long tome.

  • @wildsmiley ill repost it XD

  • its a female killeRotom

  • That dog sure likes that controller! He shakes his tail lol

    BTW he's so cute

  • @KilleRotom ooooooooh you got it wrong it is a girl dog .Isnt her name Stella or some thing like that? Just Kidding no but seriously you got it wrong

  • Best controller ever.

  • Haha walk favirite dog word

  • @gunbojason I thought it was treat

  • @RLmike1234 if you are right they have 2 fav words

  • they seid to show if your holding the controoler right or wrong

  • lol i think walk is a master word for all dogs, mine starts barking or if hes sleeping he wakes up when hear it :)

  • What a simple controller.

  • Just got an Atari 2600! I only got 5 games at the moment tho they are: Pacman, 32 in 1, Fast food, Robot tank and *gulp* E.T.

  • @RetroLewis Oh no not E.T.!

  • @witchofwhat I know lol it is terrible, Fast food and Robot Tank are the best ones

  • @RetroLewis Thats for sure!

  • @witchofwhat lol

  • I want old systems but i wasnt born back in the day

  • Yes I do like that one better than the others. Except I like to use the joystick with my right hand because I'm right handed...With that one you can only use your left hand with it.

  • @blacbraun, you could turn the controller upside down.

  • @blacbraun, turning the advantage was a dumb suggestion, try switching your hands, so our right hand uses the joystick, and your left hand controls the buttons.

  • Does your wife ever walk in on you doing these reviews and wonder what the hell is wrong with you?

  • @banasrab: I love the Atari 2600 AND these reviews, but that was funny! LOL :-)

  • Fun Fact: the magnavox odyssey was the first video console that plays more than one game and mark has the magnavox odyssey 2, but it was made in 1978 but the oldest console that mark owns is the atari 2600.

  • Could you be able to play sonic the hedgehog using an atari controller?

  • @123kissfan

you know.. maybie you can... cuz it has same plus as sega

  • @pufixas yeah swap controllers after you press start

  • Back when you actually got a "joystick" instead of what Nintendo and then every one else suckered people with. Kids of course at the time didn't know better.

  • @blacbraun, sounds like someone didn't hear of the NES Advantage. You get a very good joystick controller, and it's gigantic, so you can get a hold of it, not like crappy light joysticks with little rubber feet that are "supposed" to work well.

  • Also works great on the C64

  • I like how Atari released controllers that were friendly for left handed people.

    Thank you Atari.

  • you can use that on xbox 360

  • God! I remember that. I was the king of Pitfall. I played that when I was so young!!! Then we got an NES which I love!!!

  • I remember this so much. When this came out, my older brother thought this was AWESOME! In 1985, he thought it was OK, and now he thinks it sucks ass. I grew up with the Atari 2600, and I still think it's awesome, and soon children will be saying: Atari sucks! I'd rather play with my Xbox 5400! And then I'd say: WHAT DID YOU SAY ABOUT THE ATARI?!

  • that controller sucks i broke so many of those!

  • Can I come with you on that walk?

  • your dog is the funniest pet in the world!!!!!!!!!!!

  • he he

  • i found an Atari 2600,5200 and 7800 in grandpa's attic and surprisingly they all still work even the 5200 controllers work but its still shit

  • @sacred2iskwl talking about elders how RUDE! lol

  • @sacred2iskwl my dad had a 5200 and it worked fine and every one thinks he a lyer but anyway that was not shit

  • @sacred2iskwl

I'll take those off your hands 8D

  • Can you use this to play Atari 2600 games on the Atari 7800?

  • @Wexfyf Yes 99% of all 2600 games work on the 7800 and every Atari 2600 controller works with the 7800.

  • I just reailesd this works with a nine pin to usb adapter XD. Yay, now i can use the atari controller as a mouse!

  • its not too great for us southpaws actually : (

  • @markbengtsson leftys are awesome

  • I do believe he has both of those.

  • I remember with this controller, the the plastic "dome" inside it, the one that touches the directional contacts, would break if you push on the stick too hard. It was a 4 way D-PAD, and each direction was an on/off contact inside the controller. The contact lines directly connected to the console.

  • aww... ''how about a walk'' *turns head* ''well you know that word dont you''

  • its 2009 get a life and fuck off modian100

  • Cool controller i have one...except it's one of those tv games you get at walmart or target or etc.

Video game sure were differen't back then

  • same here

  • @MrNintendofan1985 lol i have one to

  • @MrNintendofan1985 You mean the atari flashback? i hated that thing, i came with those shitty 5200 style controllers.

  • bart played one of these on the simpsons

  • The dog is cute ^_^

  • you should review the atari rc joysticks

  • Haha, It's a conventional 8 way D-pad but it has a stick on it...!

This controller is boring to use but the paddles are awesome.

It doesn't even have a x and y axis therefore anything before 4th gen systems suck.

  • i have an atari 2600 control that plugs in my tv and has 8 games on it

  • why not super glue it to the coffe table like i did(if you dont plan on moving your atari)

  • I wish my dog was well-trained, he's a little rascal.

    :) This controller looks awesome.

  • If you liked this controller, then I can guarantee you'll hate the Atari 5200 controller! You need to review that controller, dude.

  • I think he did already actually haha.

  • He did

  • Actually... I'd prefer that controller over the 2600 controller.

Now don't get me wrong, it is a classic and iconic controller, especially for the time. Nowadays though, forget it. The joystick is to stiff, and the firing button is too small.

Even the Odyssey 2 controller is way better, and that system came out just a year later.

  • Atari 5200 sux!!!!

  • @narutomariofan99

didnt you know that atari 5200 is in worst console of all time list?

  • @narutomariofan99 He Did Review The 5200 controller

  • @narutomariofan99 i bet he'd like too, if he could find one that works right. The inability to do so should be review enough.

  • @narutomariofan99 He had reviewed that one already

  • @fungstupid Its an old comment.

  • the sega joypads controlled the commodore 64 back in the day aswell!

  • what music is that in the background??

    sounds familiar

  • the wireless atari 2600 controller had a plastic 19cm antennae on it but battries last longer in the 2600 controller than a 360 controller

  • Wasn't pong availible for the Atari 2600?

  • i like the atari 2600

  • @yoshi956100 Wow, it's REALLY hard to get highest rated comment these days.

  • @MrSaturn33 All you need to say is "thumbs up if you hate Justin Bieber" and there you go.

  • holy crap. i just realized how sick it looks when you put your whole hand on it!

  • I love this controller. Though the only problem with it is that it's so stiff. I can't tell how you move the joystick either.

  • Did you know there was a wireless atari 2600 controller? Atari was pretty ahead of it's time to have a wireless controller in the 70's and 80's!

  • @jretin Didn't the Angry Video Game Nerd say the same exact thing you just said?

  • nnnnnooo.

  • Best simple pick-up and paly controller ever.Dont have to worry about battery changing like todays controllers and braking.

  • This reviewer plays with his thumb on the top of the stick, but I consider that incorrect handling. I prefer to grip the whole stick in my hand for maximum control.

It's just like another activity I enjoy.

  • i want to be with you...love me

  • when will you review the sega cdx

  • It's a common 9 pin connector on the end. The joystick works on a C64 too.

  • I have one of those. It's one of those mini ones that comes on a key chain. My brother got it for me for Christmas a few years back and haven't played it once

  • Wait, so can you play the Genesis with the Atari controller!?

  • You sure can.

  • Sure I could, but the question is: can you explain, how I can.

  • The parts that plug-in are exactly the same.

  • "You just want fed, don't you?" Man, in a world of obvious and bland jokes YOU use humor which is SUBTLE? Your a genious!

  • This controller was one of the few good things about the Atari 2600, it was great for Maze Games.

  • how about walk oohh you know that word dont you...lol

  • lololololol

  • I bought an Atari Flashback 2, and the controllers that came with it were apparently the EXACT same controllers. But do the original Atari controllers have the ability to unscrew the stick by turning on it?

Its really annoying and gets in the way of gameplay alot.

  • i grew up with the mega drive controller. and im eleven. retro games pwn.

  • Impressive...

  • most impressive...

  • At least they're better than most of todays games. But...some modern games can be absolutely kickass sometimes.

  • OH HELL YEAH

  • I liked the Atari sticks, but they tended to wear out. The plastic pivot point in the bottom of the case would snap off. Or the ring around the base of the stick insert would crack at the flex points. Also, the bubble switches would move off the contacts and you'd have to peel the plastic layer off and stick them back down with sealing tape.

If you need an Atari stick, buy a Wico controller. Wico made arcade controls and their sticks are built to last.

  • "These days we have large hands. Assuming you're grown up.. and have.. large hands."

    Brilliant

  • i hate it so i use my sega master system or genesis controller

  • This controller cramps my hands.

  • i use an atari emulator, and im using a ps2-style controller with analog for the joystick lol

  • I never get the same feeling playing an emulator as I do the actually console. Let alone playing with a PS2 controller.

  • I'm a kid so I can grab the whole joystick.

  • I didn't have an atari but somehow these controllers seem familiar to me!!

  • It's an iconic controller, most everyone has seen it, even if they don't know it.

  • I actually use the Genesis controller because my Atari controller broke.

  • your dog is awesome

  • you must remember playing decathlon with these controllers. killer!

  • all of your vids are gold.
