There is no point in a cover if nothing is really changed from the original. And considering that it is just a straight cover with no real artistic input from Placebo, it can't really be better can it? Because the original is performed by the ARTIST who came up with it. In theory someone could paint a technically superior version of the Mona Lisa, but without injecting any creativity, it could never really be better could it?

The original is more deep and kind of sets in a dark mood, and this version is really more vivid and light. So I think that it depends on my mood whether I'll listen to Placebos or The Pixies version.

Still, the credit for this song should go to The Pixies, and bashing the original version is disgraceful.

Does anyone remember the name of this music show? I know it was on The BBC (uk) and it was hosted by Dermot O'Leary. Good program, It had a hand full of bands that would play one of their own songs and then one from a band that they were influenced by. Another band covered Black Sabbath's Wizard and i'd like to see that one again.

Apology accepted. Now, in musical terms 'better' is not very plausible. In this version, sure the singer has a better vocal range and the instruments sound great... but in my opinion The Pixies have the perfect style for these kind of songs, they are a little off and a little rusty, but they play their hearts out and that's what makes them unique.
