Anita Carter may had been the more versitile vocalist of the Carter Family that could sing about everything. She didn't chart many hit records but sang duets with Hank Snow, Waylon Jennings among others. She rightfully deserves a lot of praise of a great singer she really was.
No true Cash fan in their right mind would have reason to "hate" Bob Wootton. True, he was not Luther Perkins but Cash had long admitted that there would never be another Luther nor would anyone ever be able to replace replace Luther. Bob was hired to do a job and he did it well for a very long time - in the process making sure that Luther's "sound" would be kept alive for as long as he picked for Cash.
i always thought Anita was the best singer of the Carters,,,,,,,,love this clip....Wooten was a big part of Johns shows love him or hate him he was there
How interesting that a clip proves that Bob Wootton and his the wife Anita Carter DID PERFORM TOGETHER ON STAGE when on his old website forum he insisted (almost argued) that it NEVER happened in all the years he was with the Cash show. Never the less, he was a pretty good guitar player though!
Honestly you need to change your name to mydeaffreddy9999 as Bob can sing. I recently saw the Tennessee Three in the UK and he did the sound of Cash complete justice. He doesn't claim to be Cash, he is keeping the sound going. On some songs you can close your eyes and his voice is close to being that of the legend that is Johnny Cash.

There is NOTHING about these two. Sorry to any fans out there, but I don't think Buddy Holly intended this to happen guys.... It can be such a great rockabilly song, or a fantastic ballad, but this is just a mish mash of shit - wrong lyrics, bad timing, bad phrasing... jees - Let's get good to boogie guys.

(really really really sorry if i offended anyone here)
Anita's collection of songs that came out on the German label Bear family are superb..Also her duets with Waylon Jennings were great. Rings of gold is a classic..
Bob Wootten replaced the great Luther back in the late 60's and did a bang up job for Cash. Maybe all you clowns are jealous that he was married to Anita. Bob Wootton 4-ever....
Thank you for noting the date the concert took place, I knew it was the '70's, but to see exactly, that's great, everyone should think of that when posting videos, thanks. Odd thing though, I've never heard of Anita before or she might have gotten lost in the family group while on stage, I thought I've seen them all. I know the song and I know it has a faster pace than that, then someone mentioned Buddy Holly, Well Of Course! thanks.

Oh my god... I've never seen Anita Carter at this stage of her life before. Wow she plumped up... which isn't to say that I still wouldn't have hit it.
He sounds like he has been hanging out with Johnny Cash. Because he is trying to sing like Johnny. Anita she is very pretty and talented. I have always admired the Carters.
I doubt it. I believe it's Earl "Pool" Ball as usual. If you look at 2:54 I think Johnny is coming out from backstage, so he didn't sit at the piano during the song.
But: Luther Perkins did, and I think Marshall Grant does, too. When they first played in churches around 1954/55, they had guitar & piano with them. There's a picture of them playing together like this, they only did for a short time, though :-) Then they were on the way for the music business!
Where can I find out more about this Bob Wooton dude. Hey, if the fabulous Anita Carter chose him for a husband, he's bound to be something else. DOes he have a website?
my band(Johnston Bros.) warmed up for Johnny Cash at Jamboree in the Hills 1979...Bob was on guitar with Johnny's band. Coincidently, we played The Caravan Club in Albuquerque a few months later, and in walked Bob and the rest of the group...I told Bob I loved the show ...how impressed we were...I noticed his role was primarily to play the Luther Perkins tic tac guitar parts.
He sort of smiled and said "yeah, it's real hard to branch out on this gig"
I warmed up for Marty Stuart at Sunset Park in 1991, and got to talking with him about that show I saw with my brother at Jambouree in the Hills, how much we loved it - Marty was in Johnny's band at that time. I told him about my conversation, which I though showed Bob Wootten's sense of humor...Marty scowled at me like I was a piece of crap. Guess he didn't get it.
Well, there was probably a reason for that...Bob and Anita divorced not very long after this video, and Marty Stuart was a Cash in-law at the time of your concert.
In Marshall Grant's book, there are veiled references to some hanky-panky going on in the Cash band during the late 1970s, and I would imagine that some of the family had little use for poor ol' Bob.
My daughter and I had the privelege of going to Bob's concert in May. It was held in a small arts center in our town. We were sitting no more than 15 feet away from him. He sang Johnny's old and new favorites and did a wonderful job! I had my pic taken with him and he signed a cd and a dvd. He's a very approachable, kind man. I think he may be on myspace.
Anita even has a pretty speaking voice. Bob is really good. I found his bio and it says he was born in 42 which would make him 9 years younger than Anita.
I am amazed at the quality ability of Anita Carter I never understood why she wasn't a country superstar. Back in the day "girl" singers had a tough time breaking through the barriers. I always thought that she put her family ahead of her career. I can always pick her voice out as J.C.'s background singers. "Let It Roll" would not have been the hit it was without Anita. She is sorely missed.
Wow......I am totally surprised at Bob's vocals. Seen him many times w/JC and never heard him solo. Anita was a beautiful lady with true class and style. The best always go early........Rest in Peace Oh Beautiful One.
And who knew Bob had some pipes on him, too? Anybody know if this appears on any album anywhere? I've looked everywhere. It's my favorite version of the song, for sure and I'm tired of having to sing it out loud to myself!
Iwasnt old or fortunate enough to ever see johnny cash live, but went to the millenium forum in Derry city n.ireland the other nite and seen bob with his wife and sexy daughter scarlett belting out all the hits and its was something else. if yous get this meesage (wootton family) thank you very much for keepin johnnys memories alive. He will be very proud of yous. xo
Wow this is really special . Who knew Bob Wooton could sing! He is also doing a great job as front man with the Tennessee Three Johnny Cash Tribute Band. He sounds great here. And of course we all knew that Anita could sing! Excellent!
Thanks for posting very good ,,
