I dunno, secession should be an option, but as a Quebecker I know intimately how complex and excrutiatingly painful it'd be to break up a country. There's alot of issues related to citizenship of your residents, family issues, trade networks that'd all have to be reevaluated, what your share of the national debt is going to be, etc etc. It's a very difficult process, rarely bloodless, and could only happen in the U.S. if the alternative were more painful then secession, and it IS painful.

Actually, Texas is much more likely. Quebec is having several problems seceding due to the language barrier. A good portion of French-Canadians are educated in English-speaking colleges outside & inside of Quebec. Quebec being a sovereign nation wouldn't allow for for the english language anywhere, and Franco-Canadians couldn't cross over to English Canada anymore.

As TYT stated, we had a little thing called the Civil War that settled this, and as for the founders, George Washington put down a tax rebellion when he was president, so Washington would not agree with secession by any state. I dunno, secession should be an option, but as a Quebecker I know intimately how complex and excrutiatingly painful it'd be to break up a country. There's alot of issues related to citizenship of your residents, family issues, trade networks that'd all have to be reevaluated, what your share of the national debt is going to be, etc etc. It's a very difficult process, rarely bloodless, and could only happen in the U.S. if the alternative were more painful then secession, and it IS painful.

Yes, secession is a Constitutional act and Texas should do it. If this young turkey would read a little before going off on his "Nationalist" rant he would know this. Lincoln screwed the constitution in the "War of Northern Aggression", which by the way was more about power than slavery. Check with a few experts on the Constitution. I would suggest Professor Kevin Gutzman from Western Connecticut University. He's bar none the most well versed historian concerning the formation of the U.S.

Actually, Texas is much more likely. Quebec is having several problems seceding due to the language barrier. A good portion of French-Canadians are educated in English-speaking colleges outside & inside of Quebec. Quebec being a sovereign nation wouldn't allow for for the english language anywhere, and Franco-Canadians couldn't cross over to English Canada anymore.

@zephur6788 Economically, the PRC doesn't need Taiwan, and one of the only reasons China wants them to agree to their "One China Policy" definition is because they dislike America's influence in the Far East.

Taiwan holds approximately $500 billion of foreign reserve and is the largest exporter of computer monitors and a major exporter of PC components. Taiwan’s exports area is a direct reflection off their technological achievements. China wants to challenge the US for global supremacy, and the fact that they don't need Taiwan economically is irrelevant. they want Taiwan because they want more money to combat US influence

Taxes were more high under Reagan than under Clinton, Bush, or what they will go back to soon. And everyone complained about how much they paid in taxes in the mid 80's. Read about Reagan's tax hikes or look up the tax brackets for the 1980's. Then come back and tell me I'm wrong. Hell, I can tell you what the tax brackets were in 1965. Top bracket of $200,000 70%, and trust me, middle class America was doing pretty damn well at that time.

@TheSmashedPumpkin Well then you don't understand American law. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. The Constitution gives the states their power not the other way around. As TYT stated, we had a little thing called the Civil War that settled this, and as for the founders, George Washington put down a tax rebellion when he was president, so Washington would not agree with secession by any state. We hold elections in this country.
