@dagda825 depending on yield of weapon whether its air burst or ground burst. Ground bursts would be needed to destroy hardened targets but creates more fall out. Air bursts are more effective against cities and soft targets. which have minimum fallout. Using smaller warheards in circle effect around the target means its more likely to destroy with the firestorm alone the shockwave from all of them will create another tactical edge. All of this is factored in when using nuclear weapons.

Of course this also only works in places with large land masses (such as the US and Russia). For the UK I'd agree the sub is the best platform going. @dagda825 depending on yield of weapon whether its air burst or ground burst. Ground bursts would be needed to destroy hardened targets but creates more fall out. Air bursts are more effective against cities and soft targets. which have minimum fallout. Using smaller warheards in circle effect around the target means its more likely to destroy with the firestorm alone the shockwave from all of them will create another tactical edge. All of this is factored in when using nuclear weapons.

Potassium Iodide for the worst of the fallout, which decays within 2 weeks for the worst of the worst stuff.
Limited exposure for the first month, and then only go outside for essential amounts of time after that.
Food stockpiles for 1 year (yeah, it can be done, and practically-just ask the Mormons) and a deep indoor well powered by a combination of hydro, Solar and wind (the critical components for all of which sealed, pre-blast in an EMP proof faraday cage).

MOSCOW (Reuters) - President Dmitry Medvedev signed a law on Friday completing Russia's ratification of the New START nuclear arms reduction treaty with the United States and said the landmark pact would soon enter into force.
"Today I signed the ratification document relating to the strategic offensive weapons treaty," Medvedev told his presidential Security Council, according to Russian news agencies.

@periesicsd its true people lived in fear in those days just ask ur parents and grand parents, and those weapons are still pointed at us, as are ours at them, and it can still happen...the encroachment of NATO father east, and the Russian invasion of Georgia...it can still happen and Putin is a Soviet style leader who put a puppet leader in place so he can still call the shots, and with grand Soviet style military parades through the streets of St. Petersburg....all in all a very scary thing..

Hm. I like how the person who posted this blames the US for Russian rearmament. Maybe the US is going to start war or maybe the Russians were already preparing for war and the US has known this all along. It would be prudent to speak the enemy's language if you think he will attack you. For that matter there are more Russian who speak English than Americans who speak Russian. Call me stupid but I don't think we should worry about countries such as Russia anymore. In my opinion they seem like pretty non aggressive people now a days. I would more so worry about escalations between north and south Korea and China possibly allying with the north. If that happens we are in for a shit storm seeing as China is the largest populated and nuclear armed nation in the world.

@goddesslush Thats what Europe thought about germany in the late 1930's. Never underestimate any country. In fact Germany first took back the rhienland by building a bunch of plywood tanks that looked like real ones. During this time they were also secretly building an army. Sure technology is more advanced these days but there is easily a chance the north could always be secretly building shit as well. seeing how secretive the country is.

To keep you stupid Europeans from starting world war three, or didn't you notice that europe has enjoyed it's longest period of peace ever under u.s. military occupation (backed up by the unspoken threat of nuclear weapons).
