A prioritization of stages is needed in order to plan the most efficient route to clear all stages. Once a location is selected, the action stage begins in three parts. The first part requires the player to shoot down certain amount of enemies, then a one on one duel with an ace would ensue, follow by a boss battle. While simple, Air Diver was a far superior title to konami’s Top Gun.

Air Diver was an early Genesis title release in 1990. It’s a cockpit style flight action game similar to Top Gun for the NES. At that period, it clearly shows off the graphical ability of the 16-bit Genesis compare to the 8-bit Nintendo. The game is structure with an overworld map which the player needs to direct the transport plane from location to location. Each chess piece movement will take up a certain amount of fuel.

This is a great game. I remember beating this back in the day. This review sucks. Back when this game came out this was one of the top air sims for any console. The reviewer clearly was born yesterday and has no appreciation nor education for classic 16bit games.

I mean yeah, it's a little on the simplistic side in terms of design but what do you expect? The game is TWENTY years old! I also understand why I haven't seen any LP's of this game, it's hard as hell but still fun. (And I'll be fixing the LP problem very shortly)

i use to love this game so much and the main thing i liked was the music

about the fuel gauge you had to kill a set amount unit's to carry on so if you went slow you would of been able to finish a lvl with out running out of fuel =D

The music IS good relative to the rest. It looks like it was a bit too heavily influenced by Afterburner, while cutting off screen space. Hm. Glad I never bought it when I had the chance way back when!

This game is a Tribute to WHITE NOISE!

These games are often Avoided because after Top Gun 1&2, people were put off. BUT.. yes.. there was a Very good version called "ULTIMATE AIR COMBAT" on the NES & it was everything you wanted in a Game. It's Challenging, You get up grades (Weapons, Designs etc), You have the Choice of 3 Aircraft (Timcat, Hornet & Harrier), & you have the Air, & Ground Assult mode. It's very addictive aswell. Check it out. For the NES; it's 9 outa 10. Just no Multi-player :(

There was a fascination in the 90s with aircraft/space shooters and some of them were quite good (ColonyWars, TIE Fighter etc). Must were utter crap (Wing Commander), featuring OTT cockpits that obscured the view, perhaps to hide the fact that computers weren't powerful enough to render fullscreen.
