That is officially called "lying in State"..The Catholic Church does this with His Holiness the Pope...when he died... Time Magazine pictured him just like this...& that's been standard practice for centuries for all KINGS & POPES over in England, Italy, France, Spain... (check your history books)... Our black folk have patterned our worship & clergy AFTER the Roman Catholic Church.. including the Holy Vestments (robes).but yes.. Chief Apostle's are supposed to Lie in State this way... God Bless

Yea, the first a body laid out sitting upright was when Bishop Charles Ellis' father (he was also a Bishop in the PAW) passed away...He was sitting up just like that. I think that is how they lay out Bishop's when they die..It's definitely different...
Most of the "Pentecostal" denominations lay there bishops in state that way. I am a part of the Church of God in Christ. Although our former presiding prelate, Bishop G.E. Patterson was not laid out that way, most of our jusrisdictional bishops are.
