  • Windows 7 is simply the best, and very fast!!!.

  • I love windows 7. The performance increase from vista to 7 is GIGANTIC!

And generally 7 is a lot better than vista or any other OS. 7 is an epic win from microsoft!

  • Nice review. I still prefer Debian for most tasks, but 7 is an insane improvement over Vista.

  • Windows 7 is out and is pretty awesome :) thanks for the great review sir :)

  • That's true, Windows 7 is pretty faster then vista! pretty stable too...

The only problem is that if you try to upgrade from xp to Win7, you're subject to data loss...

  • agreed. Always good to backup before upgrades.

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • lool, i never have any problems with my vista ultimate 64bit:)

  • Wait until you try Windows 7 Your system will wake right back up.

    -Pete

  • Hi Pete =]

I have used both XP and Vista, XP worked extremely well for me, Vista was just a pretty looking piece of crap for me (I'm a power user), and XP was much more compatible with my stuff, would you recommend upgrading from XP to 7?

  • I love XP I still run it both 32bit and 64bit for my video editing. ITs the best OS I have seen by MS.. Vista is to bloated. People run server grade systems to get performance out of it.. Very sad.

I would say do dual boot until you know it does everything your XP will handle.

    All the best!

    -Pete

  • Thanks Mix !! You can tell within one second how genuine you are of a person :) I do use Vista for all my graphic work and its been solid..BUT..i have a fast PC. So I cant wait to see 7 on a moderate laptop.

If its quick people like me will be able to run photoshop on a 599.00 dollar laptop smoothly.

Of course Photoshop CS4 is out and its got bugs and more bugs..hahahaha so I will be waiting patiently until spring for all to smooth out.

  • Thanks for the kind words.. I know what you mean with photoshop. Honestly I run XP 64 bit on a very fast desktop for the performance. Vista is nice but not all my apps work right on vista. I run all types of marketing programs, networking tools and the security layer drives me bonkers. LOL

Well dual boot until you satisfied with it.

    -Pete

  • Im useing w7 right now

    it is really amazing

far better than vista and little better then legendary XP :)

    good review

  • Thanks! Im glad you enjoyed the review and the OS.. Let us know what you run into..

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • thank's man , but how is the gaming with it ?

  • Great question! I dont know as I dont play games.. I do video editing and thats really smooth. Anyone else try gaming on it?

    -Pete

  • Pinnacle has always given me problems, some of the older ver. were just nasty for crashing. Have you installed the new window movie maker on that? It's ok for making quick YT video's

  • The new Pinnacle is pretty nice with the pluggins.. Nice and fast and easy.

I will be moving to something more professional soon.

    -Pete

  • Awesome review hands down.

I'm happy that you put a nice relaxing classical guitar piece at the end of the video instead of just some crazy metal song. =D

  • Thanks for the kind words..

    Lots more to come.

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • Thank you for that review, ya said pretty much what i wanted to know about Windows 7.

I was using XP too, because all of those problems (and more :P) that you described on Vista.

    Keep it up :)

  • Thanks for the kind words. XP is very solid and vista sure didnt cut the mustard. Windows 7 is much better and been a long time coming.

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • I Cant Wait To Upgrade To This :D

  • Let me know what you think when you do.

    -Pete

  • Brilliant Review thanks for making the time.

  • Thanks.. Im glad you enjoyed it,

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • Vista Sp2 is more reliable that WIndows I have never seen a new release of an OS that didn't come with bugs. Win 7 will have less bugs than Vista during its introduction, but it will still have them and a lot more than in Vista SP2.

Btw, 7 is basically Vista with a new lick of paint, for the same reason XP was 2K with a new fancy look.

  • Thanks for your post.

Vista really is a bloated OS, Win 7 I would agree if I didnt already use it. Its a lot better running then Vista.

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • Is that basically like a Windows XP 64bit?

    What's the cap RAM?

  • they make a 32 bit and 64 bit version.

    Just like XP and Vista.

    Thanks,

    -Pete

  • So ? i can run windows 7 on my old 3GHZ pc ???

  • For sure.. It will run really smooth on it too.

Let me know what you think when you install it.

    -Pete

  • VISTA is Win 7 beta for money :)

  • Haha if that aint the truth.

    Have a great 4th

    -Pete

  • I'm using windows 7 right now its great

  • Nice.. Its really a nice OS and very stable.

    Thanks for your feedback.

    Happy 4th

    -Pete

  • i just dont like windows, thats all... from the xbox to vista, i just hate it. zune? what the hell is that...

  • I hear you.. I fix them all day.. LOL And here I am at home on one again..

    Mac or Linux man?

    Happy 4th

    -Pete

  • Can you turn all the eye candy off? I like the old Windows ME/2000/98/95 GUI rather than the transparencies and other visual effects. It just hogs too much resources from the PC. I'm using Vista H.P. with 2GB RAM, 1.8 GHZ CPU, and nVidia 7150M. I'm hoping i get better performance out of 7 compared to Vista.

  • Yes, and you will see lots more performance over Vista.. Let us know what you find.

    Happy 4th,

    -Pete

  • Seven is awesome, I completely switched over from Vista and it's running smoothly. Has a few minor bugs, but nothing to worry about.

  • Nice.. What issues have you found?

    Thanks for the comments.

    Happy 4th

    -Pete

  • so how would you say it compares to XP ?

ive run 98/XP my whole life and i tried vista for almost a week before i had to switch back, is Windows 7 really BETTER than XP ? or is it just a better version of Vista ?

  • I really can relate. I do think its better then Vista..

I love XP But Windows 7 is great and I think better.

I would love to know what you think if you try it.

    Happy 4th

    -Pete

  • Hey man I am frustrated withe the Network card driver for win 7 that I newly installed. It and the audio card worked perfectly with the stock drivers that came with xp, but none found on the win 7? what should I do, the network card is a 3com old card originally designed for win 2000 and that audio card is a motherboard integrated one dont know what brand.

  • Wow I had a 3com and it picked it up. They make great cards.. Take all the updates and let us know what you find.

    Happy 4th

    -Pete

  • Loved the video! Windows 7 is sure to be a good competitor to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Also, Windows 7 looks more stable and somewhat more elegant than Vista. Can't wait to get it on October 22, 2009!!!

  • What are you talking about? XP already killed MAC IN THE PAST YEARS!

Now windows 7 comes to CLEAN UP THE JOB!

AND KILL SOME MORE MAC'S :D

    WINDOWS FOR LIFE!!!!!!1

  • They both have their place.

Mac is quality and very stable.

PC has come a long way for sure.

I even love Linux for servers. Again they all have their place.

    Happy 4th

    -Pete

  • Loved the video! Windows 7 looks like it's gonna be a good competitor with Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Also, Windows 7 looks more stable and somewhat more elegant than Vista.

  • Thanks! I agree. Its a super os.

    -Pete

  • I just cannot wait to see the look on my friends face when seven drops

  • Good review ;)

Well a friend tests windows 7 beta version and loves it but we´ll wait for the latest version ^^

    by

  • Thanks for the comments. hope you had a great weekend,

Yes Windows 7 will be a great improvement to the Vista flop.

    -Pete

  • What are the requirements? Same as Vista?

  • Same as XP.. Its lighter then Vista.

    -Pete

  • XP

    Minimum Processor 233MHz

    Minimum RAM Size 64MB

Minimum Hard Drive Space - 1.5GB

    Win 7

    Minimum Processor 1GHz

    Minimum RAM Size 1GB

    Minimum Hard Drive Space 16GB

  • not many would run XP with a 233 and 64 ram. We all know you need 256 Ram for XP to be usable.

Compared to Vista its a world of improvement.

    Hope your weekend was great,

    -Pete

  • I love 7, it's incredible

  • Thanks!

  • hummm yea it does look good but on my famlie pc it is vista but my pc is xp and i like them both fine and i dont want to spend money on a new OS but good review

  • Thanks, I love XP I still use it on most of my work PC's

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • Cool review. Win7 is such an improvement over vista. I can't wait for it to come out.

  • Thanks... I cant agree more.

I will update you when I know more.

    -Pete

  • good review, i agree with you win 7 will fix everything that vista had that annoyed us and it will have everything that we all wished for that win xp had, will be a good OS

  • You got it.. I think around Oct 09 they are will release.. I will let everyone know when I hear for sure.

    -Pete

  • Great review, looks great.

  • Thanks! Lots more to come.

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • it looks like vista, im goeing because my gpu has dx 10.1 and i can upgrade to dx11. All dx10 cards from 8600gt can have dx11. But thanks for the info, im subscribing ;)

  • Thanks for the post!

Your right looks very much like Vista just not so top heavy.

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • Great review mate, seems like it can be a true successor to xp, any chance on a release date?

  • I dont thing its far off.. couple months. What im hearing Acer will be the first company to release a laptop with Window 7 and that will be before the holidays.. Last I heard Oct. 09

    Take care!

    -Pete

  • Hey, really good review mate. Looks like this new operating system might be a good reason to upgrade if it has ironed out all of Vista's problems.

  • Thanks soo much. Yeah I agree.. I perfer XP over Vista just because of all the issues. Windows 7 is a great OS.

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • cool, nice laptop, actually i need a new laptop so this helps thanks mate!

  • thanks.. I love the Sonys they make some great solid laptops..

    -Pete

  • Nice I should get the beta on it I have an extra pc I could do that on. Thanks for the insight on the OS

  • Thank you! Let me know how it works.

    -Pete

  • i still wont believe anything from windows is that good...

  • LOL I hear ya.. You have to give it a try..

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • Nice.

  • Thanks more to come soon.

    -Pete

  • Thanks for reviewing this, I may upgrade my laptop from Vista to Windows 7 after what you've said.

  • Im really enjoying the windows 7 Great OS

I will have more details on this shortly.

    -Pete

  • Didn't really know too much about Windows 7 until I saw this. Thanks for the review!

  • I am SO upgradung to 7 when it comes out!

  • yea but u can't run older games on it ;)( by old i don't mean like 1980 games....from 2003 to now, and i'm saying that cuz vista couldn't so I THINK that when it comes to games windows 7 is similar to vista)...other than that its good :P

  • There is a compatibility mode. Im not a gamer and didnt try any.

I suppose I need to look into that. Thanks for that post.

    Enjoy your weekend,

    -Pete

  • i have heard rumors of DIrect X 10.1 or 11 being in the OS but i havent seen anything in my build (7077) i will check 7100 which is the final build (from a beta standpoint as far as programs being added)

  • let me know when u do, thx

  • Great review, informative, Even though 7 is not released yet, I agree with most of what you said, An extra note for all you gamers out there, you should gain some frame rate simply by installing 7 and the memory hog is gone with 7.

    5/5

    Stanbony

  • Thanks for the great post.. Its not so top heavy so its nice with the extra speed games perform better too from what everyone is saying.

    Enjoy your weekend,

    -Pete

  • cant wait to test it out i have oblivion running on max (not impressive compared to bioshock which is better visual) i will test it out but from what i have heard it is better so yeah anyway nice review the only downfall i see is the os locks up on build 7077 but thats okay because i am about to upgrade to 7100 also the updates are not great ( i was not able to run PDF or adobe for a while and firefox would not work!!!!! AHHHH) good video dude have a great weekend

  • Sounds awesome, love the review

    Very good work :)

    5/5

  • Thanks! More to come soon.

    Have a great weekend,

    -Pete

  • Great I do like the look of 7 I hope it stacks up to the real world.

  • Im sure it will do a lot better then Vista. MS took some hard knocks with that OS

    -Pete

  • Awesome reviews ! (im now still thinking to move Vista OS from my notebook to 7OS )

  • Thanks for this awesome review!! I was looking to upgrade from the beta, but needed a review to see if it was worth it.

  • coming soon. ;o)~

    -Pete

  • sweet!

  • yea i just got the new RC today and switched from vista on my new toshiba laptop. one thing i had to find was the webcam software then it ran just fine i think the compatability with your software will be fixed.

  • when you do get the RC i think you should get the 64 bit sofware. its much better with compatability, i had a game i wanted to play on the beta but i didnt work on the 32 bit, but worked fine on the 64 bit. so there is some more help for your video editing

  • Nice.. Thanks for the update. I might have to look at that.. My issue I have a couple apps that dont work on 64 bit. ;o) VMWARE I guess.

    -Pete

  • Thanks... More to come.

    -Pete

  • Nice video. I guess you are going to move over to WIndows7 when it comes out? I've been using a laptop quite similar your Sony's VAIO it's one of these Aluminum unibody MacBooks which run great. I tried to run Vista on it with Bootcamp which turned out better then my desktop. But nothing can beat Windows XP on it with Bootcamp. So while Vista looks great I am holding out for Windows 7 and will definitely get it on my system for compatibility reasons next to (Snow) Leopard. Do use Linux as well.

  • Thanks for your comment and well said. windows XP runs great and vista is pretty but just not stable enough. Its thick and top heavy.

I wish my Viao had an aluminum case! That would have held up better. but I do use the junk out of it.

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • Very nice review !! A+++ . i run Vista now and im not very happy with it. wen windows 7 launches im going to purchas it . Nice review!!

  • Thanks! I hear that all day! I went back to XP I gave up on Vista until Windows 7

I wil put up more videos soon on it.

    -Pete

  • hey for ur video editing u should trying running the program installer in compatability mode. just right click the installer and click troubleshoot compatability, thengo through the steps. it helped me a lot with some programs i had trouble running

  • Didnt work for me. I tried..

I will have to try again with the new RC1

    -Pete

  • You're very right about video editing: not the smoothest experience with video editing under Windows 7 yet. I used Premiere with Windows 7, and it was very buggy and slow. But aside from that it's great... BTW I've switched back to Vista because of the problems with video editing.

  • Wow thanks for the post! What version on 7 did you use?

Yeah Im using XP Pro 64 bit on my workstation for video editing.

    -Pete

  • I used build 7000(the first public beta) 32 bit(could have had 64 bit, but I've had some bad experiences with 64 bit OSes.) and loved it... the taskbar is great. Can't wait for the release of 7... And you're right about vista... but it's better now. MS has gotten alot of the kinks out by now, and developers are making drivers for vista now... but still 7 is far superior.

  • I agree.. also pulling my hair out on 64 bit OS's Just silly we cant use more the 4 gigs of ram on a 32 bit OS

And vista is a lot better but still to top heavy.

Thanks for your post! Lots more to come.

    -Pete

  • :D can't wait for the complete version :D 5/5 & fav

  • Thanks man! Yeah its a great OS.

I will have more updates soon.

    -Pete

  • Why have you said: "Vista Killer" ?!

It's the next OS after Vista, so obviously it's going to take Vista's place as the flagship Windows OS.

  • Vista is a pretty Dead OS people dont like it and most dont run it. MS thought it would have caught on like wild fire and that wasnt the case do to all the issues. This will be the next Windows XP.

    Thanks for your comments.

    -Pete

  • Awesome review man. But the best part of windows 7 will be embedded in its last build i.e. multi touch interface. I have been using Windows 7 RC 1 and i have liked it and have seen people using the touch in it. But they are restricted to single touch. Basically ur review is nice but all i m saying is that this is the first time MS has come upto my expectations with Windows 7.

    TC...Futuretronics ~ Nish

  • Thanks for the post.. The Touch feature is pretty neat.. My laptop dont have that ELO touch screen or I would have tried that out. It looks pretty nice. I dont have use for touch with my business.

    Its looking great so far.

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • Yea pretty good video.I'm waiting till the final release to get windows 7. I would've liked to try it but the partitioning program in vista thinks that i don't have any space to partition when i have a hell of a lot of space. And i'm not planning on removing my system files temporarily so that it can see the space just to dual boot vista and window 7 RC1.

  • Nice stuff man.

  • Thanks my friend.

    More to come.

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • our savior windows 7!

  • LOL Vista sure cut it.. Windows 7 so far so good.

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • its good review

  • Thanks my friend.

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • I think its very good

  • Thanks! hope you had a great weekend.

    -Pete

  • Great Review Great To see U Doing a Review Subscribed

  • Thanks! Hope you had a great weekend.

    Lots more to come.

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • just use sony vegas or adobe after effects to edit your videos

  • I have Sony Vegas but Pinnacle is soo much easier to use.. I might have to look at After Effects. I just really like the plugins on Pinnacle studio.

Thanks and have a great weekend,

    -Pete

  • Nice Review GJ

That laptop came with Vista Ultimate? Was it pretty expensive when u buyed it?

  • Thanks.. Yeah it was $1200 but was marked down to $850 at office deptop about just shy of 2 years ago. I got the floor model and they ended up giving it to me for $650 so I thought I got a pretty good deal on it. The Vista was nice looking but most of my networking apps ran bad. It was night and day difference when I put XP on it. Ran like a top. With the Windows 7 now it runs just as fast and im really enjoying all the features.

    -Pete

  • i liked it good job

  • Thanks! Hope you enjoy your weekend.

    -Pete

  • nice video

i am doing a review today hopefully

    Thanks

  • Awesome! You can reply to this one if its on windows 7.. Hope you enjoy your weekend.

    -Pete

  • great review there! 5 stars! bye

  • Thanks! Hope you enjoy your weekend.

    -Pete

  • How long did it take to install???

  • Cool this cant be better! 5 stars + faved! =)

  • Thanks for the review!

  • Thank you.. Glad you liked it.

    Have a great weekend,

    -Pete

  • Pete-

I dont know much about computers so sorry for my lack of knowledge here. :o)

I had to buy a new computer tonight and all i could get was vista with SP1.

    Is vista really that bad?

I got a dell inspiron with 2GB ram. Seems like it runs faster than my old xp.

I've just heard neg stuff about vista and hope I didnt get screwed.

i dont do a lot of fancy stuff. No networks or anything. Just your basic home user for the most part.

  • Well Microsoft will not be supporting Vista soon as they view it as a failed product.

Honestly you can install XP on it.

Download all the drivers from the Dell site and I will mail you a restore CD for that Dell XP pro.

Or you can try your luck with Vista and see how it goes. ;o)

If you run into problems let me know. I will give ya a hand.

    -Pete

  • Great review, Mix! But, can I print an envelope??? without it all going weird all over my but and making me agitated? Also, can you type in mutliple opened windows without having to keep minimizing and deminimizing a pop-up windows? Those of us with horrific memories of Vista post-traumatic-OS-syndrome need reassurance before we give up old reliable XP. Thanks for that review, bro!

  • LOL Man.. When I got my Sony laptop it came with Vista Ultimate.. All the bells and whistles. I was sooo frustrated by it. Not running like it should and have my apps would act odd. I put good ole XP back on and it ran almost twice as fast. Well They sent me this to beta test and I love it. Its as fast as XP and everything works so far. It will be a great product when its finished.

    Vista not so much.

    Have a great weekend,

    -Pete

  • I don't like Vista either. You know what they say....new isn't always better!

  • You got that right..

Hope you have a great weekend,

    -Pete

  • I've been testing Windows 7 since the beta came out and in my honest opinion the beta was better than Vista. I just downloaded and installed Windows 7 RC1 on Tuesday and so far the only issue I had was a driver issue with my ATI HD 4670 video card. The next day they released an updated driver and the problems are gone now.

It will take a little work to learn where things have been moved to, but I think it is a step in the right direction.

  • I did notice that Windows 7 is almost an exact clone of Kubuntu Linux 9.04. However Kubuntu is far superior in the fact that you can read NTFS, FAT32, FATX, HFS, HFS+ formatted hard drives.

It also uses a windows emulator called WINE that is pre-installed. Applications install and run just like in windows. Plus it comes with free OpenOffice apps.

Kubuntu handles memory more efficiently and has more eye-candy GUI widgets than Mac OSX.

    It is worth trying out.

The download is less than 700MB.

  • I like linux a lot. The problem with wine is not all apps will run with it.

For all around desktops and laptops Windows 7 will be the way to go. I run Linux on all my web servers. It is way more secure and stable. Great comments my friend.

    -Pete

  • I'm currently running Ubuntu on this computer but my new one downstairs will be running both systems so I can still play my favourite games in windows. Great review. *****

  • Agreed, I run a computer repair shop and every other day someone walks in and says please take off Vista and put on XP on my laptop. When they get it back they are so pleased with the performance.

Vista was a total failure in my view.

    -Pete

  • I would have thought Microsoft would have learned their lesson after the Windows Millennium failure, but I guess not.

I've removed Vista from my main computer and now I'm running Windows 7 RC1 instead. It is pretty sad that I trust an unreleased operating system over using Vista.

So far so good, and they have done a great job of revamping memory allocation.

Hint: If you have 4GB or more memory, disable virtual memory and plug-in a 4GB or higher USB drive using Readyboost. BIGTIME BOOST!

  • Agreed. Yeah using the memory stick is a great idea. I have used a couple apps that work with XP to use the memory sticks but I didnt notice much.. It was more problems then it was worth. I will have to pop in a big USB and allocate it and run video editing and see what it does.

Super post. Hope you have a great weekend,

    -Pete

  • Actually I was referring to using the USB drive with Readyboost on Windows 7.

They really ironed out the readyboost feature, and now it is a must have.

XP didn't support it properly, Vista did okay, but Windows 7 finally got it right.

  • I installed it about a month or two ago. Its basically vista with all vista's service packs - it even uses vista drivers.

I am probably the only person who thinks vista is better than XP. If your computer is built right, vista will perform better (Im running 6GB DDR2 with 2x640GB HDD w/32mb cache each in RAID 0 on a 3.0Ghz Dual core, 8800GT)

It runs fast than XP which is dual booted.

My laptop will stay XP, it is what it was designed for. I am going to install the new release of 7 tomorrow

  • Yeah Im a network engineer and server administrator. Vista dont cut it for me. I also do video editing and graphics and its slow! I have XP 64 bit on my beast box at home its loaded with ram and needed the 64 bit to see it all. That runs way better.

You shouldnt need all this hardware to make Vista run OK. It was way to top heavy and they never addressed all there issues. ITs almost usable but to bloated.

Thanks for your comments and letting us know what you see.

    -Pete

  • Fresh installs of both vista and windows 7 use the same resources for me. I think the difference is computers have caught up with memory and dual/quad core processors.

  • I have run them side by side and tested all aspects of them and have found Windows 7 to use less resources and perform faster then Vista. Maybe you had an old build? The boot time is soooo much faster too.

    -Pete

  • Hey Pete, are you familiar or have you done any reviews on Mac/Apple??

    Tony

  • Snow leopard is coming soon.. but in reading up on windows 7 and Leopard.. I think the comparison goes as follows:

Vista is the same as windows 7, same drivers, same core, same look. new features and bug fixes..

Leopard is the same as snow leopard, same everything as well, new features. Bug fixes

Lol, in the corner of my eye, my desktop just BSOD'D ... I dont think windows7 enjoys my TV tuner card :(

  • I mean this as in they aren't whole new worlds.. like moving from XP to Vista or windows ME to XP where you need to check drivers etc..

    or OS9 to OSX

  • Windows 7 core is not Vista. Its been re-written. Its much lighter. The networking is all reworked nicely. I will look at Snow Leopard also when thats avail.

    Thanks for the comments.

    -Pete

  • I have worked with Mac. I have not reviewed any yet.. I will make that a to do.

    Thanks,

    -Pete

  • still in XP SP2, had issues with SP3 with the 2200BG wireless argh... never tried vista because i know my laptop can't handle it but will see if Win 7 would run :) I wish MS has bootup Windows to try it out before installing it

not sure if I'm going to keep windows on my machine I might switch to Kubuntu or Fedora

  • Well a nice way to test it. Make a ghost image of your hard drive so if it dont work out you can put back your XP image. I love XP SP2 it works very well and its quick. There is no reason why Vista was so top heavy. Window 7 is Very quick and you will see it run as fast as XP if not even faster.

    -Pete

  • is the MIDI port in/out problem fixed?

  • Didnt test it.. What issues were you having and was it a Vista problem or XP?

I will look into and let you know.

    -Pete
